IPL is a lower priority
by Padmanabhan R on May 27, 2011 11:22 AM

BCCI should have clearly told the cricketers that IPL is a lower priority and they cannot skip national duty because of IPL.

But since the money for IPL is huge there is a natural temptation.

BCCI doesnt want key players to miss IPL also. So it is an ironic situation, self-made by BCCI.

Why not shewag
by ABHIJEET PODDAR on May 27, 2011 11:20 AM

Too much of cricket is creating problem. Why only gauti, why not taking abt shewag. He had a serious injury before the world cup, he continued to play in the world cup and didn't bowl at all barring those 2 overs he bowl bcz it was the most imp tournatement in his life. But once the tournament got overs, he should immediately gone for the surgery. This would have give him ample rest & he could played in windies. But choose IPL, bcz money mattered him & when they didn't qualify in the league stage, he gave up went for the surgery. What if delhi would have qualified to the playoffs & final, he would have also missed crucial eng tour. BCCI has to be blame for too much cricket. They are the one's who are making the cricket corrupt, & players don't have any choice but to be part of it, otherwise his career gets affected. Protest against BCCI.

Gambir's injury
by GANESH KALYANSUNDARAM on May 27, 2011 11:14 AM

Why Andrew Lepius allowed Gambir to play for KKR when he was aware of the injury as his loyalty is towards KKR. It only means that he has been given some incentive to create a fuss about Gambir. a person with a shoulder injury cannot play for 15 matches continously and that too not showing any signs of injury. These days Cameras are so focussed nobody can escape. It may be also that Andrew is taking a revenge on some incident when he was with the indian team. In india we give too much to rumours and create controversies without which the food cannot be digested .

Gambir is an upcoming player and he would not have spoiled his future for the IPL"s money as he would have earned much more by being away with it. The money that is paid to him is peanuts compared to his future earnings with Indian cricket.

It's greed of BCCI as well
by mangesh mhatre on May 27, 2011 11:10 AM

It was BCCI, who were not paying their players, It prompted Kapil Dev & Co to arrange ICL, which was designed to help players get good money, including less known players.
It was BCCI who allowed IPL, only to stop ICL from getting started.
It was BCCI, who on seeing success of the idea, became greedy & added two more franchisee teams, thus adding no. of matches & hence length of the tournament as such.
IPL-4 has extended to such a length that players will get rest before WI tour, which would not have been the case with only 8 teams participating the game & only one round of the game between two teams.
It is BCCI, who has allowed present format of IPL knowing each & every consequence of the game, including tiring out of national players & probability of their injuries.

Hence forth IPL's duration should be curtailed & Players playing in IPL should be compelled to play for nation if selected.

BCCI Culprit
by cbrcoder@rediffmail.com on May 27, 2011 11:01 AM

Ofcourse players deserve the break and obviously they can't take a break in IPL because of money. Players are in Cricket to earn money as well, so I don't think there's anything wrong in that.

However, BCCI must be blamed for such hectic timetable.

Gambhir's injury ignites club vs country row.
by Ganesh Surath on May 27, 2011 10:59 AM

It is Gambhir's choice, considering that the career of a sportsman is short and plagued with injuries he has the right to safeguard his future.Gambhir has won laurels for the country and there is no dearth of talent in India to replace him in his absence. This happens in all type of sports all over the world and there is no need to get all hyped up on the issue. No body should doubt Gambhir's commitment to India And it's cricket.Don't forget that cricket is a team game and there is always some body to step up to the task.I am surprised that the print and electronic media are making such hue n cry.Have the TRP's gone up?
