indian cricket fans, get out of your speed-mania. speed or fast bowlers never won anybody anything.
if we are no. 1 in tests and no. 2 in odi for a considerable period of time it is precisely because we do not have any 'fast bowlers' but have plenty of medium pacers or slow bowlers or spinners.
Must i point out to you that we have won 2 odi Wcs and 1 T20 Wc where every major cricket playing nation participated including aus, eng, sa, wi pak, still we won all the above world cups even though there were bowlers in other nations who were 'faster' than our bowlers. we won 1983 WC not with fast bowlers but with ''spinners'' like kapil, madanlal, binny, sandhu, amarnath, azad etc.
we won the tri series in aus withe the win in best of 3 finals with ''spinners'' like irfan pathan, sreesanth, praveen kumar. similarly in T20 WC we had ''spinners'' like pathan, r p singh, agarkar, sreesanth.
we won 2011 odi wc with ''spinners'' like munaf, sreesanth, zaheer, nehra.
Many of you people want to see bowlers like kapil in our side so that we may remain no. 1 for long period. I would like to point out to you that even kapil dev was a ''spinner'' and we are no. 1 in tests and no. 2 WITHOUT kapil dev. so we do not exactly need him to be no. 1 and reamin no. 1.

Where did Roberets say, speed makes for No 1. he is meerely pointing out the fact that coaches seem to confuse fast bowlers into changing into Line and length only at thee cost of eeverything else. I know that Venky Prasad is one such coach.
A fast bowler defines himself- Either he is afast bowler or not at all. Does not mean he will not get wickets in ODI/T20 which is batsman ddominated. Mistakes get you wickeets andd theerefore linee and leength works.
Every body knows this...that is why spinnerss likee Irfan, Mynaf and Nehra dont get to play test matches.
Zaheer and Sree although slower than what they were can bowl at the consistent mid 130's where you can get the ball to do something if you have the necessary strategy and guile. Munnabhai bowls at 120-125-130. That 5K lower allows the batsmen in a test scenario to adjust a little eaasier and gain confidence that if he is slow in his footwork....he still has time.
Bottom line, India need to have bowling coaches, who do not try to radically alter a bowler's natural way of bowling.
That is the only thing one can admire abt Sree. He is a monkkey who refuses to listen....therefore he still runs in hard.... and can bowl at some pace....makes him useful for the arena where you can geet wickets mostly by actually bowwling well....noot hoping that the batsmen will make a mistake in order to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Spot on. Make Venky the fast bowling coach and he will covert all promising fast bowlers into spinners like himself.
Whoever questions Andy Roberts' views are either kids or don't know much about fast bowling - maybe hey have only seen the likes of Venky,Praveen Kumar, Vinay Kumar, A Mithun etc.
Yeah ! this legend has got it right. These guys chuck n ICC has turned a blind eye.. Bajji aswell does it. Though Bret lee later corrected his action. Genuine fast bowlers are Marhsall, Bishop, Akhtar , Waqar and Waseem.

Aktar , tait ,malinga,muralidharan etc have an action that can be used to chuck when needed and bowl when needed. Lee used to be in the same category until he corrected his action

Roberts is not talking of effectiveness in bowling. He's questioning why a fast bowler should lose pace. There can be pace with control in line and length. You cannot call this great bowler as non-sense. Even Sunil Gavaskar, who was so successful against WI, calls Roberts as the toughest to play even when you have reached a 100. He definitely has qualities which he should be proud of and his concern is purely genuine.
Malinga/shoaib/tait/mitchell johnson are clean chuckers while Steyn/praveen kumar are occasional chuckers. The bowlers with clean action are Morne Morkel, Ishant Sharma, Stuart Broad. Technology has helped these chuckers to get way with jargon : bone structure, 15 degree tilt etc.

Yeah I agree except for Shoaib .. he has a follow thru.. chuckers dont have follow thru like MALINGA, TAIT, STEYN , Johnson n Bajji
