Disappointing tour for number one team
by pradeep agarwal on Jul 11, 2011 12:33 PM  | Hide replies

Indian team has one the series but their are few positives from series against a weak contender. The batting never flourished barring few good innings from VVS.The bowling could win once only against frail WIndies lines up & last nail in the coffin was this sad defensive decision of a supposedly lion hearted captain. He has caused huge dent in his image & also did a diservice to test match cricket by opting for a draw when light was good & tail end of WIndies could bat 4 hrs where this guy was scraed of losing series. Is it a pointer for what is in store for team in England against a much better bowling & batting? The praise by Kapil of his decision shows how money can change the opinion of ex cricketers.

It is not a question of defaming but changing sides no sooner BCCI has accommodated him.I too have high regards for him as Cricketer.

You are right Pradeep...
First time, I am not happy with Mr Dhoni.. But he is not the only responsible person, I think Dravid & VIjay didn't try their best...
Dravid should be dropped in the batting order.

batting order decision is tahen by captain only.
Fact remains it was defensive mindset of captain

It is not Dravid but captain himself who should have taken the initiative while allowing Dravid to hold the fort from other end. This guy jumped batting order in final no sooner realising a flat track offers him best chance for a match winning inning ahead of Yuvraj while cooled his heals in Mohali & even refused to bat here when bowl was doing little bit.

You can't chase the target on this wicket, when one of the batsman is unable to even rotate the strike. This wicket was not good for hitting boundries..

Let us nor forget that two WIndies batsman scored century on this track & Edwards batted when wicket had lots of assistance for bowlers.U can't be number one if such challenges are refused against low rated teams. There are numerous examples of captains who took such challenges but lost the match yet allowing game to win.

u are right mr agarwal.
there was no shame in drawing series 1-1 in pursuit of 2-0 win.
But agrreing for draw when 15 overs left & 7 wicket in hand- shows defensive approach of captain & lack of his faith in his own batting

shame on dhoni and mgt and black day on indian cricket
by sanjay sharma on Jul 11, 2011 12:25 PM  | Hide replies

it was painfull to see the last day's play
and indian approach. any team in world would have definately chased this target especially against very weak WI team.
If any indian batsmen were about to score a century then indian team would definately batted for mandatory overs.Team india dont deserve to be a good test team ,forget about no 1 test team

I am fully agree with you, but we can't balme only captain for the reason. Mr Wall is the main responsible person this time, he should be come down the oder. They should try to chase the target till the 5th wicket fell..

for al the recent win captain dhoni is gibven credit ( though its a hard known fact that his own contribution in any test win is nil)- then why he doesn't desreve same treatement in bashin when india loose or draw or take defensive approach.
Why this double standard in case of dhoni.
even paid media is doing the same.

Test match is different from T20's
by Guru Prakash on Jul 11, 2011 12:03 PM  | Hide replies

Well done India!!

Realistically, India could have won only if we were chasing less than 150 on the final day. Chanderpaul played a brilliant knock to save the day from WI.

For those guys who do not understand the difference between the test matches played here and T20:
1. Boundaries were large. Most shots. nicks did not even reach the boundary.
2. This is red ball, not the white one which goes miles when hit.
3. There are no field restrictions like in T20s
4. The ball going down legside is not called wide.
5. Outfield was very slow. Hence the slow run rate from both the sides.

Aggression does not mean shouting at others on the field. Dhoni has been the most aggressive captain India has ever had. He demonstrated it in the second test when he declared.

Agreed with your analysis but you didn't mention the run rate with India had to chase. Less than 4 with 10 wickets in hand and that too for a total of under 200...!! It is very much possible in a test match.
If Dhoni was risking the series win today by not chasing, why did he declare so boldly in the second test..??

bad excuse, we are calming no.1 position, as per my personal opinion we must have to win the series 3-0. We don't bat well but we ball very purely. There is no any moment in this series when we feel top of the game. Our bowlers ball like club cricket. No one bowers balls impressively except Ishant Sharma.

Which was the last country who have had the run rate of more than 4 in the last 2 days of test with around 50 over?

The average run rate has been less than 2.5 this series attributing to slow outfield and the batting track.

Going by that analysis, 180 would have been possible in 60 overs, and Indians had to bat brilliantly to keep the scoring rate to 3.

Scoring rate of 4 on these grounds, It would not have been possible even for Sehwag.

Yes. If not for rain, it would have been 3-0 loss to WI, even with chanderpauls heroics.

Look how Chanderpaul and Edwards were wasting time taking guard on the final day

Ifs and buts are hallmarks of cowards.

When there is a chance or opportunity for them to show their mental strength and skills they run away with tails in between their legs and give all kind of excuses.

SHAME ON YOU DHONI
by venkat shivaram on Jul 11, 2011 12:01 PM

This match has proved that we dont deserve to be the No.1 Test Team. I am sure that teams like AUS, SA, SL and most other teams would have gone for the chase and not afraid of the result. These guys are paid so much and what the hell was their problem in batting out another 15 overs !! They should have batted for at least another 10 overs and tried to score about 40 to 50 runs which would have left them with run a ball required in the last 5 overs with so many wickets in hand. If you cannot chase 84 from 15 overs against a team like West Indies then you do not deserve to be the No.1 team.
