It's Ganguly's destiny, he deserved it!
by Rooney Mathews on Jan 11, 2011 06:25 PM

Ganguly's fans might not like it but this was destined to happen. IPL franchisees had burnt their fingers in the past going for some really expensive deals. KKR had gone through torrid time on the field for 3 consecutive seasons when the team failed to finish inside the top 3 even once. It is a hard pill to digest but the truth is Ganguly failed to marshal a team that had decent depth and talent. Even as a batsman Dada never really excelled in the T20 format although he improved dramatically in the last season with an average of 37 and an aggregate of nearly 500 runs. But, KKR were in a very serious revamp mode going into this year's auction and were always going to look beyond the first three seasons. Despite the failures on the field, the team has been one of the best performers off it. SRK was now keen to let cricket do the talking as well. Unfortunately, Ganguly was always going to be over-priced at $ 400000 base price and that cost him dearly. And it eventually did.

Boycott SRK
by Abijit on Jan 11, 2011 05:40 PM

this is no commodity for personal use. they want to earn huge money by selling the cricketing art of the players to us. this is a contract and cricket is an art which attracts huge fan following....
ALL THESE ARE OUR MONEY
Actually WE PAY by going to the stadiums or by seeing the ads on TV channel and buying things in market.

Franchisee -dirty politics
by Abijit on Jan 11, 2011 05:27 PM  | Hide replies

Buchanan and Sharukh are the spoiler
Ganguly is always a team spirit motivator. But some coaches can't tolerate his charisma. Ganguly the fourth best scorer of IPL3,a real match winner.
It is clear that the franchisee owners played a dirty game.
People should teach them a lesson by not seeing IPL especially KKR matches.

A sincere analysis.
by Indian on Jan 11, 2011 11:29 AM  | Hide replies

KKR might not have bought SG. But let us see how their team looks on paper. They have bought 12 players in auction, out of which only 5 are Indians. Since any team in IPL can play only 4 foreigners, they need 2 Indian players who can contribute significantly. We assume these two are purcased from the pool of uncapped players. With the little money left ($425K) KKR will find it tough to buy uncapped performers like R Sathish, Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, Manish Pandey esp when other teams are retaining more money ensuring more buying powers (DC-$2.1 Mn, Pune-$0.9 Mn, DD-$0.75 Mn, RR-$0.8 Mn). If KKR can't buy uncapped players then they will have to rely on local players from CAB league. It won't be exaggerated to say that none of these players is as experienced as SG and can match his capability as a batsmen & a leader. On paper, KKR may continue to suffer as they have not selected good and experienced Indian bowlers. The likes of Unadkat and Balaji will not be first choices in any good team. But KKR spent $750K to get them.

KKR suffered in earlier versions of IPL because they didn't have a balanced side and their foreign recruits failed to fire when it mattered. They didn't have proper bowling strength. And as a coach John Buchanan damaged the team spirit in IPL-2 to which SRK was also a party.
SG would've been a good fit to this team as he remains a match winner till date. SRK may've omitted dada, but this may not ensure better result for KKR even in IPL-4.

No matter what SRK say now, he has made a mistake by omitting Ganguly from the team. Gangulay could've been offered the role of a mentor before the auction began. This wouldn't have hurt the pride of a prolific batsman of the game and his supporters. But what happened, was totally uncalled for and SRK has surely spoiled his chances of getting any future business from WB for any of his films and any support for KKR.
The statement that SRK has made now is even worse. It sounds as if he is trying to pacify Dada and his supporters.

IPL or no IPL, Sachin will remain in our hearts just like Gavaskar or Kapil is. Similarly Saurav Ganguly's image will always remain high among the Bengalis. No matter what others have to say or think.

After all, Ganguly is the man who first taught the cricketing world that Indian cricketers can return fire with fire. The aggressiveness of the Indian cricket team which we see today is all because of Dada. We cricket lovers definitely owe a lot to him.

by Priyanka jain on Jan 11, 2011 08:22 AM  | Hide replies

SRK knowingly removed since he didnt like him otherwise why would he do this.

Since Kolkata will not leave SRK he wants to pacify people.

Why SRK didnt bid for Ganguly

Ganguly is a spoiler in the team..Not worth for 1 Ruppee
by Sam on Jan 11, 2011 08:16 AM  | Hide replies

Some guys feel his statistics is good others say he is a legend. Hahaha...fact is Bengali people are most mediocre on this earth. Can't even think beyond him. He never built a team but looked at sustaining his position in the team rather.

KKR didn't win matches in the past even with champs like Gayle, McCullam...All because Ganguly.

Do you know that out of the current crop of players most of them owe their success to Ganguly.

Right from Zaheer, nehra, Yuvraj, Viru.....all owe it to ganguly...

He even made way for Dravid in one day team by advising him to wear the wicket keepers gloves...

ne of the best captains india has ever seen.

yes he is one of the best captains, im not a big ganguly fan nor i m from kolkatta but the treatment given to ganguly is not acceptable and why these owners use citys name if they dont consider citizens opinion. i hail from mumbai and we would never tolerate such thing for sachin.

by arvin g on Jan 11, 2011 04:15 AM  | Hide replies

outlive their utility but still wants to be in forefront of action needs to be kicked out of sports no matter how great they were before...
if they dont want to go then they should not expect any sympathy...
does any1 really thinks dravid will retire someday from all cricket... no way... he will want to be member of the team even in 2020...
and now looks like ganguly is going to be humiliated again and again just coz he cant read the writing on the wall that he no longer is a player whom some team will want...

I think you should read Dada's reaction. Ganguly has clearly said he is not interested in any role apart from player. So before you drag a player in the mud, spend some time trying to find out the truth.
