Ganguly has scored over 10,000 one day runs and over 7,000 test runs.

How many runs did Anirudha Srikanth, P.A.Reddy, Chabra, Amanpreet Singh, Achutan, Gurav, Pawar, Rajesh Bishnoi and Sunil Joshi scored all together in International Cricket ?

If SRK had intentions of getting Saurav as the mentor for KKR, Y was it that he didn mention it before the auctions,
Only after the furore of real cricketing fans who have some cricketing brain (not based on regional bias) did he come to terms with the reality. SRK has realised it was BRAND SAURAV GANGULY which showed a green line in his books rather than BRAND SRK or BRAND KKR... So now SRK wants to liiiicccck Saurav's feet..
Nightmares will be free flowing around you SRK, Empty stands await you..
I dont want to held only SRK for this, but this is a whole some conspiracy.. Mark my words IPL 4 is a FLOP SHOW

KKR management has already showed their intention to Ganguly by not retaining him; But Ganguly showed arrogance and went against SRK unlike Kumble who decided to withdraw from auction telling that he will only play for Bangalore.
Ganguly instead went to BCCI and increased his base price and tried to show KKR and SRK which misfired.

If IPL 4 is flop it would be due to the absence of Lalit Modi and certainly not due to Ganguly not playing..

OK Why is SRK willing now....what happened??Its very unfair to blame Ganguly only .what had happed to KKR in 2nd IPL...he w nt captain. If KKR did nt retain Ganguly...he must quit ...why??????U forgot that Kumble is the president of Karnataka Cricket Association. This is the reason........its other than cricketing reason otherwise person who scored near 500 runs in last IPL...is unwanted.others who performed badly...get selected..........

i m from kolkata but this i dont agree with Kolkata Fan , at 38 he is very unfit and no where suited for T20... he was greate leader and cricketer but now is liablity on team , he has now more distructive effect on team KKR should avoid him in dressing room . If he comes back SRK should forget IPL trophy ...

Why Ganguly wasnt picked
by kaustubh saha on Jan 10, 2011 05:08 PM  | Hide replies

Well on purely cricketing logic, I believe Ganguly is still worth USD 400000 . However the following factors go against him :

1. History of Dressing Room troubles : Ganguly has a long history of dressing room troubles - with Flintoff in Lanceshire, with Chappell in Team India, with Buchanan in IPL II etc. I am not saying that Ganguly was responsible for all of these but fact is Ganguly was the common thread to all these incidences. In his prime, this wasnt an issue but now that he is no more vital to the team, his reputation is haunting him

2. Aggressive fan base : Everytime there is a perceived slight to Dada all hell breaks loose in Kolkata. Effigies are burnt and demonstrations are made in protest - which franchisee would want that headache for someody in the twilight of his career ?

3. Reputaiton of being headstrong : Whether right or wrong, there definitely is a perception that if Sourav is in the team, the team will have to be structured around him rather than the other way round. It may be only a perception but it is bound to impact decision making – especially when you have several other candidates at lower pice tag. That does not apply for the likes of Kallis or Dravid or Laxman. This is where the “good boy” reputation of Dravid, Laxman et al, helped them, while Dada’s “headstrong” reputation didn't.

4. Uncertainity about future : Teams are not being picked just for a year. The franchises are tied to them and vice versa for 2-3 years. Should one take a risk on someone like Sourav, who is not even playing active cricket now?

5. Ganguly's performance : Even hough Ganguly was the top run scorer for KKR still his strike rate was very poor (about 117). Now one can say that Dravid (128) , Kallis (116) and Laxman (106) dont have great strike rates either. But presence of other agressive batsmen in their squad make up for their strike rate. For exmaple in Bangalore, Uthappa (170 plus), Ross Taylor (about 150), Kevin Pietersen (about 140) more than make up for slow starts by Kallis but this doesnt happen in KKR and hence Ganguly is generally blamed for KKRs poor run rate

What about Shane Warne. He is 41. Do you see him playing for another 3 years.

It seems Sourav Ganguly would not be a part of IPL 4. It is indeed sad to see one of the legends of the game being discarded by all teams when newbies like Unadkat got away with lucrative deals. This collective decision by all teams is baffling and defies cricketing logic. Ganguly might not be at his best anymore but is certainly a better bet than players like Venugopal Rao who was snapped up by Delhi Daredevils for a staggering 3.22 crore. The reason for the exclusion could have been Ganguly’s belligerent attitude. Throughout his career, Dada has always incited strong opinions from all involved. In a team that was full of the proverbial “nice guys”, Ganguly provided the necessary spark and fighting spirit which upset the world order.
The Indian cricket team was not supposed to be the team that sledged or showed aggression. Ganguly on the other hand got under the skin of almost everybody most notably Steve Waugh which might have ultimately been responsible for Australia’s poor performance in India. The images of the Lord’s balcony in the Natwest Final might have been a sacrilege for MCC rulers but for a large number of Indians it represented an answer to Andrew Flintoff – “What you can do at Wankhede, we can do it at Lord’s”. It was this aspect of Ganguly’s personality that was rubbed on the younger generation and the team transformed in
