Toss wins in auction too !!
by mira on Jan 08, 2011 09:36 PM  | Hide replies

I don't know how many had noticed that whoever whose chance came early, got better prices. This happens because of "bird in hand is worth more than what is there in the bush"

This is the reason why Dinesh Karthik gets $900K compared to someone like Adam Gilchrist. Some of the other wicketkeepers got pittance. And I think no team bid for Boucher at all! If his chance had come earlier, he could have been picked up.

Sorry do not agree. The bidding will continue tomorrow as well, and franchisees have a purchase plan made in advance. And that plan is to pay LOTS of MONEY to -untalented Indian players who can be easily pressurized and manipulated into fixing matches. They simply do not bid high amounts for the people they perceive to be 'MORAL' or against Match Fixing. The franchisees recover their money mainly through spot fixing and match fixing and it is important to have a bunch of committed fixers in the team.

Not so sure to what level match fixing and spot fixing happens in IPL. But to me the whole IPL looks fake and I don't watch IPL. I also think Indian players in general get paid more than foreign players because ticket sales will be more to watch Indians playing. Hypothetically, let us say the entire IPL consists of foreign players only...not a single Indian player. Then I don't think there will be as much craze.

Well, I think there are enough Indian players for all the teams...they can get Indian players even without playing huge sums for the talentless ones...if they paid huge sums for the cricketers from their own STATE, then i could understand...but currently it only looks like a precursor to match fixing.
