Cricket is dying
by parag shirwadkar on Feb 14, 2011 07:51 PM

I think cricket is surviving just because of india. No other contries have the similer interest and money which india have. Last world cup was a flop just because india got out in the first round, that even prompted ICC to change the format and make sure that India will go through first round. That clearly state that why cricket is dependent in India. No other sport is like cricket. In football world cup if Brazil gets knock of in the first round they would not change the format next time because it will not make any difference over the popularity of the world cup. Countries like West Indies and New zealand cricket is dying. If you see games in West Indies even for 20-20 mathes stadiums are half empty same in newzealand. Cricket is struggling to keep alive in the traditional 8 nations, forget any new team emerging. This are very bad signs for cricket.

future of cricket !!!!
by Nayantara Dutta on Feb 14, 2011 05:52 PM

Kabadi is now played by 3 countries...India , Nepal & Bangladesh and India wins always....Similarly in 10 years time cricket will be played by 3 countries India, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka because Pakistan will find it difficult to find 11 players at the rate their players are getting banned....So India will always win 3 nation World Cup in future

8 nation cup
by Sam on Feb 14, 2011 03:56 PM  | Hide replies

Frankly speaking it should be called 8 nation tournament as rest 6 countries are playing for the namesake..after the so called world cup they will vanish and will come back after 4 years, top 4 teams from each group will enter QF...and everyone knows who they are...so better call it a 8 nation tournament...

I dont agree Friend. Every nation who plays Cricket can participate, like every sports, there is an authority to govern all this... so if these are the only Cricket playing nations, and these are the only nations who appraoch ICC to play formaly in WC, be it.

Point is .. everyone who is playing Cricket is participating so its a WC, rightly so.

I'd also GO with the answer of Oye KAKE, he righly spoke about NBA.

Cheers, and All the best to India. Looking foward to a nice tournament.

The Top 6 or 8 teams whom some people had been yelling on this board have set some high standards which any new team would take a very long time to even play evenly with them.

So no interest generated in those countries where their team is always beaten, so the participation also

abt cricket
by madhusoodan on Feb 14, 2011 03:28 PM  | Hide replies

FYI:
cricket is the second most popular sport in the world. most popular sport in the Indian subcontinent, which has a 1.5 billion population. It attracts crazy fans with a religion-like following in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Then there is the West Indies and the 20 million or so non-residential Indians - figures that can be matched only by the soccer buffs of Europe and South America. Cricket is among the top three most popular sports in Australia, England, South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, New Zealand, Afghanistan and Mauritius. The ICC, its ruling body, has 10 Test playing nations and 104 member countries. The game also cherishes the ‘most popular’ tag in 20 countries. The ICC World Cup is the world’s second largest single sporting event, drawing a cumulative television audience of five billion. A final involving India could draw up to 400 million TV viewers (India has 130 million television sets). BCCI is the world’s richest sporting organisation, with a valuation in excess of $2 billion. The IPL attracts two billion and is the most popular and richest cricket league with the average attendance figure of 57,500.

only coz of India....as far as representation is concerned..england represents europe, south africa represents african continent,no countries from Atlantic....there is no qualifying rounds for CWC for regular cricket playing nations....only for no regular who play cricket once in 4 years...CWC should be beter called as 8 nation tournment...as far as audience is concerned naturally with 1.2 billion Indian viewership will be huge...as far as asia is concerned..only India is a country who has got worth...leave aside srilanka, pakistan ,bangaldesh...they dont have good economy so no good sponsorship.....so my dear cricket is around 125 years old still it has got 10 test teams out of which zimbabwe, bangaldesh (no commments)
