Just consider the conditions & rules of the old 70s or 80s are our so call greats can perform & is this team is playing vs the current Aus team or All time great Aus team?
Very poor selection indeed... nither the author have any idea idea of cricket pre - 70's nor know the fact anil Kumble is the all time best bowler india has ever produced...
These messages reveal that fans consider only current players are greats. Past player were useless old men .For them the past is immaterial.No wonder Tendulkar alone is the great. But I wonder wether any one will ever match Sobers for his versatality,achievment,elan,sporting spirit. I am propmpted to respond like this because many want Prasanna to be replaced by HarBhajan. Prasanna was the best ever off spin bowler.
Any playing XI against Aussies without Prasanna would be a duffers team. He spun web around aussies feet and at one time he was considered the best off-spinner. After Pataudi left Captaincy, Prasanna was sidelined due to inetrnal politics and quietly retired. I remember that in one match he was not offered to bowl for nearly 70 overs and was offered bowling when other bowlers failed and he politely refused saying that others are bowling 'well'.

Prasanna has taken 189 wickets averages more than 30 with strike rate of 75 .... Kumble has taken 619 wickets at average of 29 and strike rate of 65 in more batsmen conditions....
How can the world best bowler averages 30 playing on better spinning conditions most of the time?
look guys cricket is played with 11 players and I feel the team chosen is fairly ok. They have been chosen on merit though opinion may vary a bit here and there. Signing off on a cogratulatory note to the rediff team for the effort made.
Syed Kirmani and no one else should be behind the stumps. And I would put Javagal Srinath ahead of Zahir in the pace attack. Kumble should be in, even Chandrashekhar should be considered ahead of Prasanna.
I would move SRT to #4, include Kumble instead of Prasanna, and harbhajan/Srinath ahead of bedi.. remember what bhajji has done to Aus during his peak..
