absolutely not kidding you!! Gundappa is a surprise...check his stats...he was inconsistent, but that does not mean he was not a good batsman....he could barely run, had a big belly...fielding was sloppy....definitely noy Vishy!!

I wonder then why the australian team lost in 2001 (2-1) in india, drew in 2003 (1-1) in australia, and drew in 2007 (sydney cannot be counted), and lost in 2008 (2-0) in india?
No doubt he is great but his weakness against swing bowling on Indian pitches was striking. I have seen him batting against W Holder of West Indies in 1978. Vishy was all at sea against that bowler. I definitely vote Vengsarkar to the position than Vishwanath even though I am from Karnataka and Vishy is my favourite batsman.

Are you off your head? Vishy was a master player ag pace, both pure pace and swing bowling as well as spin. For swing bowling, he scored two classic fifties on a greentop at Christchurch ag Richard Hadlee at his nest when all Indian batters flopped, a masterly 113 at lords ag England and several fifties there on pitches when the ball is swinging a mile...several classic knocks on Aussie pitches ag world class quicks like Lillee, Thomson, Hogg, Pascoe..he was the best of his time, even better than Sunny Gavaskar and was rated by then the four great quicks Lillee, Roberts, Holding, Thomson as the best Indian batter they had bowled to...Vishy has to be there in any Indian great XI just like there can be no all time great world XI without Sir Vivian Richards..

I am from Mah..and i agree Vishy Should be ahead of Vengy, if the oppositnion is austrailia. Had it been England though, then yes Vengy would be the first one to be in ahead of almost anybody

There was no Holder in the 1978-79 series. Please check your facts before making silly comments. The 1978-79 team had Marshal, Philips and others and Vishy scored heavily against them.
no gr sorry boss you are great I know but we need 5 bowlers as there are enough batsmen already till Dhoni/Kapil. Sp one extra bowler in Kumble so that we have a off spinner/legspinner/left arm spinner in addition to two fast bowlers. even in case zaheer walks out after bowling 5 overs we still have 4 people whom we can depend upon. So though a great fan of yours I am sorry boss. You can be 12th manunwell. and srinath/bhajji and vengsarkar as extras
