buddy , we need to come to narrow mentalilty he did not say those words what title says... yes even it had viv's 189 under pressure and not with sehwag ... both were attacking players and nice thing one is our jewel
Sehwag's innings was good no doubt. But comapred to Richards 189, its nothing. Indian tracks are batting paradise, also the grounds are smaller, the fielding restrictions of 20 overs, all goes in the favour of todays players. ALso the windies attack is very weak now. Richards innings , the team was in difficult position, he played with Holding(tailender), the field restrictions were not there(introduced in 90s), against strong English team at Old Trafford, and the grounds were bigger. So his innings was even superior compared to Sehwag's. Even though Sehwag was brilliant, u cant compare that to Richard's 189.

You should consider the pitch and the conditions. It was a seaming wicket, the English bowlers were good, there were no field restrictions, no bouncer restrictions, a bigger ground and Viv had to bat with tailenders.

Viv's was a master piece. We don't have bowlers of that caliber. This WI team is lazy & appears to be with part time bowlers . Even Kemar is not in the same mold as a Croft or a Garner. Actually Viru should have scored in England last season when the going was tough. Let's see in Australia

Same West Indian bowling has been going around for ages, & I don't recollect anybody else scoring a double century against them. Don't belittle a man's feat. Let's learn to appreciate a Genius while we can
Re: Re: Re: He is right

Genius my dear is achieved against quality bowling.. not a third rate bowling attack. We Indians have a shortage of sporting heroes so every feat makes us think we have achieved greatness. I feel Tendulkar's 200 against S.A was much better (considering a quality bowling attack). This is only club level
still braggin abt old glories...forget the past...this was thrashing at its best...windies will never ever get a chance to take their revenge even if sir viv was still around..what a loser mr. richardson is....

On flat tracks anybody can bully mediocre attack, when Richards played chips were down and on a pitch which was aiding swing. If i remind u few months back what was India's performance on the same swinging/seaming pitch.Sehwag was a sitting duck in Eng & SA ,so please don't compare a flat track bully with a all time great.

whether it is flat pitch or not scoring 219 itself is a feat.if it is so easy why didn't viv score 200 in india that too in 50 overs.viv scored 189 no in a 60 over match.

Well said Sivakumar.. Mr. Itla & Ramanujam don't know anything about cricket. If at all it is a flat pitch, why can't all the other batsmen who have played that day & previously on so called flat tracks haven't produced a 200 run knock.
Try to appreciate rather than criticizing, Mr. Itla & Ramanujam.. Try & hold the bat first and then score the same atleast in your gully cricket you morons.

I think the point is a double century made against a club class attack, with power plays, bouncer restrictions (Viru's vulnerability is known) and on the flattest batting track shoulnd't be compared to an innings built with tail enders, on a seaming wicket, uncovered pitch, against a high quality attack.

then how come great richards couldnt help west indies in 83 final when indian total was just 183
actually i conside kapil's 175 is still the best high knock because of the pitch, the condition of the match and the weather. On that day it was so chill, fielders were keeping their hands in pocket and wearing double swaeters and the pitch was dangerous and india were 17-5 when kapil came in and it was a world cup match and india were really underdogs in odis.

& india would have been out of the world cup if they had lost,it's a pity that we don't have any recordings of the match coz of BBC strike.

I did not want to respond, but would like to clarify. My point is Richardson was trying to find an excuse for their defeat - read the last sentence. My point is though Darren Bravo could not play, there was another in his place who is also from the same team. A tongue in cheek comment - cheeky, if you will -from me is: he can as well say, Sachin did not play, so they lost. I hope you guys get this drift. If you can't, this comment is not for you!
