Because he had the luxury of having the best openers, great middle order,so that he could play freely and by the time he came to bat he had been given a gud platform

No doubt. In fact the best of bowlers during his time belonged to his own team. I am sure if Viv was in the opposition, he would nt have negotiated the bowling of Joel Garner, Colin Croft, Malcolm Marshal, Andy Roberts and so on. Viv was the best during his time and in modern day cricket the one and only fearless batsman is Sehwag. Gayle can be no.2 in that rank

Do you have any idea of the kind of players Richards thrashed ? Lillee and Thomson ... on pitches faster than all modern pitches ... he would meet these bowlers at half pitch and hit them over extra cover. If you know anything about cricket, try to imagine what skill was required to do this. Think before you speak !

i saw that match and it was in that RECORDED match he invented shot to pull a yorker length ball from ian bothan for a six. THAT REMAINS IN MY MEMORY
Having seen Viv for most if not all his career, I can state that nobody has come close to Viv Richards in sheer destruction of bowlers. Sehwag is India's best batsman of his generation in terms of sheer match winning capabilities. However, Viv played without a helmet against some of the world's fearsome bowlers of all time. Currently, we have no really great fast bowlers like Lillee, Thommo, Hadlee, Imran, Botham, Willis the WI fast bowlers. Sehwag is the best of his time but not close to Richards. I wonder how Sehwag would have fared playing with minimum protective gear and on fast pitches against the bowlers I named above. In terms of India's greatest ever, I would rate Gavaskar and all time great for the past 40 years, it has to be Richards.
Re: Richardson refuses to compare Sehwag double with Viv's 189

Everyone appreciates Sehwag which he richly deserves. The real hero according to me was Rahul who in his very first match bowled so well. He turned the match in India's favour. Otherwise it would have been like the one against Srilanka in Indore last time when Dilshan went on the rampage.
there is no comparision between these two great players beacause of they cant compare with their playing time, mentality, exceptions from people & natural games which they played. So both of them are Good players in Cricket History.
Viv's innings was in those times when batsmen played with fast bowlers aiming at their heads, which were not adorned with helmets. Todaye we have Rainas and Yuvraj's chickening out at the thought of the ball touching thei helmets. So, no comparison. Just enjoy the two greats.

There are pluses and minuses .I for one never wa a big fan of Vivian Richards - often when I saw his batting it was brute power and little grace . The most important aspect is the boundary line - the min & max in the latest match is very short where as Viv achieved it in bigger ground .also the pitches are flat as some one said even some ones grand mother can bat with one hand . The WI side is pathetic nothing more . What differance does it make - public are coming ads are more money is being minted by BCCI so what does it matter even if it thrid class cricket.
