There is no fast bowler after Kapil.
Since we are fools who want to live in fools Paradise.
We are united only in Petty Politics,Regionilism,Casteism,Corruption,Incompetence,Inefficiency, non Punctuality &slavery from Kingdom period.
So we become tolerent to the point of Animals to bear the above atrocity.
We are even selling our voting rights.
So we will live in past Glory. We will not select players based on merit & give quoto system & regionism.
We will not prepare fast & bouncing pitches.
So our players are tigers & lions in INDIA & like mouse in Aus/SA/Eng/WI/NZ.
So till BCCI is Governed by dirty Politicians,Businessmen,Crooked players like sunny, shastri & controlled by terrorists thro'benami cine stars there is no scope for any Fast bowlers from India.

kapil ws indias greatest fast bowler and allrounder but he was not fast but relied on swing.

The only genuine pacer with raw pace India had was javagal srinath who was a yard faster than alan Donald during India south africa test series in India

Varun's trained at the MRF "medium" pace academy
by Nikhil Shah on Dec 08, 2011 12:56 AM

Varun's should be able to to do well in the current ODI series, although he had a 1-off game when he went 0-66 and gave up a last ball six.

The line-n-length MRF "medium" pace academy helps budding bowlers to train for the big leagues and some of the youngsters have had trouble with the yorkers, slower ones and cutters in the initial stages.

Varun's profile even though he has pace, suits more as a versatile bowler as well and which is why I rated him higher than Umesh Yadav.

The advantage Yadav had over Varun was that he had 69 wickets in the domestics at an average of 25.91, where Varun did not play much in the domestics.

The eco rates of Ishant and Sreesanth in the 1-dayers has been 5.71 and 6.01 and had to rested for the Test matches since ODI eco rates of 5 and below is the acceptable rate which both Munaf and Zaheer have proven to have achieved.

On the other hand, Dale Steyn has an eco rate of about 5.25 along with Gul who has an eco rate of 5.01, since the arrival of free hits and power plays the bar had to lowered.

The data we have from Kapil, Srinath and Zaheer show a gradual increase in eco rates. Kapil was 3.71, Srinath at 4.5 and Zaheer now at 4.91.

I would say the designated target now should be lowered to 5.25 from 5.0 or below because of the change in the batsmen oriented one day game.

Varun's can hopefully meet this target with his pace and bowling SR should be better. Let us wait and see.

Good Luck!!!
by Narayanan Sangameswaran on Aug 23, 2011 08:22 AM

First, BCCI will be after you. They will hire some batsmen to guide your bowling who will screw your ambition up. If that fails. IPL will get you! Only focus is to bowl underarm or overarm to be economical and screw up your bowling!! If that fails, our Indian pitch will mess you up!! If that fails, you will be our Brett Lee!

Pace

Pace is a waste if it is not supported by accuracy.

Varun is something special
by Nikhil Shah on Aug 23, 2011 04:36 AM

We have seen the likes of Zaheer, Ishant, Munaf and Sreesanth in terms of pace. But they all did not have an impact with pace alone since they were in the high or mid 140s when they started on tours.

Varun is consistently over 140kph and can go above 150kph even on Indian pitches. Which makes his pace significant enough to have some impact on a international class batsmen.

Pace around 138pkh with no line and length in the sub-continent a problem. Varun has adequate control and is able to hit in the mid 140s could make him a better prospect than Munaf and SreeSanth.

Sreesanth in particular had an ODI eco rate of 6.0 and Ishant was 5.6 which cannot be accurate enough.

There was a similar article about Munaf Patel on rediff couple of years back with a kind of similar picture. Today Munaf is a complete off spinner who can bowl occasional medium pace.
Aaron - If any bowling coach/management/caption/etc ever ever tells to reduce pace and concetrate on Line, Length and other BS show him ur middle finger. ;)
