You mean guys like Sachin, Sehwag, Laxman, Gambhir and Dravid (who was the sole performer) have played and performed all these years because of luck. don't criticize others because they fail.

Wadekar did not get the same option....
by NashikMarathi on Aug 23, 2011 12:36 AM  | Hide replies

First series win overseas in England.(1971)
First series win versus West Indies. (1971)
Series win in India over England. (1972-73)
Then disaster in 1974 versus England.

Wadekar resigned and retired. But then he was Marathi and the rules are different for Marathis in India.

@Nashik... How ever educated people may become, they can't leave their tendency of regionalism. Pathetic Nashik.

Take a hike... North India and especially UP/Bihar is the MOST regionalistic of all.

Everyone is regionalistic. Only Marathis becoming regionalistic evolves panic because that is the dumping ground of UP/Bihar overpopulation.

Raina should be dropped and never be recalled
by prasheen mothukuri on Aug 23, 2011 12:35 AM  | Hide replies

Raina should be dropped and should never be recalled to the taem. He was given 8 chances in the series to prove and establish himself. Who in the cricket world can get so many chances. They should have given virat kohli a chance considering he has good batting record compared to Raina. Pathetic selection committe and team management

Being from India and looking all at sea against spin really does not look good for Raina.
To make matters worse he is bad with bouncers too.

Dhoni's arrogance big reason, selectors did the rest to destroy
by John Smith on Aug 23, 2011 12:29 AM

the Indian Team...Get Dhoni out of this job...he is just no good. First, he messed up the 3rd Test in West Indies by playing to a ultra-safe draw rather than going for a win, and then the England team showed them how useless, aged, and outdated they all are. It is one thing to plan IPL and win the World Cup in India, but quite another to win overseas. Get Dhoni out, and also stop playing international cricket and IPL for 1 year. All will be well thereafter, as their arrogance (coming from too much money that these fellows have got now..) will be gone with the disappearance of the advertisement dollars. And a new crop can then come up, like Kohli, Aaron, etc..

Don't surrender on the field either...
by Arv Singh on Aug 23, 2011 12:26 AM  | Hide replies

If you didn't surrender in the field, then there would be no one asking you to quit your job.

In this series, you have insulted your senior player Harbhajan and his dead father in an ad, you have failed to nurture young players like Raina, Ishant, and Mishra, and you have shown poor leadership skills.

Your own performance as wicketkeeper is shabby. Your team selection, bowling changes, and field placement is below par.

Now, it is upto you to decide if you are going to belt-up and do something about it or not. Focus on your job and lead the team - have respect for the seniors and encourage the youngsters.

If you failed to make it "large", you won't have the option to surrender - instead you will be fired!!!

I agree with you to a large extent that the ad was not in good taste.
In all fairness to Dhoni, he appears at the end. So there is a possibility that he was not aware of the contents of the ad before he appears and gives his dialogue.
But if he was even aware after it was aired, Dhoni should have talked to the concerned people and pulled the ad.

Thanks. Looks like he had already given up on this series. It's not like the Dhoni we had seen in the past.

Loss of series in England
by kp singh on Aug 23, 2011 12:24 AM

Indian team needs to play less of IPL and do fewer advertisements. They need to play with fresher minds and bodies for India. The team has been living out of suitcase..constant play and travel. This was bound to happen. However I are sure that they will once again become the No 1 team.

Dhoni did his job
by Onlooker on Aug 23, 2011 12:22 AM

You can do only so much with the team you have. We lack bowling strength which will normally be compensated by the batting. But this time batting was a let up. And it wasn't due to the captaincy that the team lost that Dhoni should lose his captaincy.

Re: how's that they are fit for IPL

IPL is played in India under controlled conditions on Indian wickets, for a max of 2-3 hours a day. That is for gamblers throwing around their bats and hitting 4s and 6s...true class of a cricketer comes only in a Test Match. Only Rahul Dravid had that class, rest neither have the class (save for Sachin) or were too selfish enjoying themselves with their families in the English salubrious summer. Why on earth was Zaheer even selected, Same for Sehwag, Gambhir, Raina is technically no good for real bowlers, and then was too tired. All in all a wasted effort and an insult to India the way these fellows played, thanks to the corrupt BCCI lead by another corrupt India Cement fellow (this guy was raided today by CBI for the Jagan Reddy corruption affair)
