When, when, when???
by Anindya Dasgupta on Aug 23, 2011 08:03 AM  | Hide replies

When will we understand the following
1. That Raina Is not Test class?
2. That Mishra bowls too slow in the air to be effective in a Test match?
3. That Sreesanth is a 'one test match' in a series bowler
4. That Rohit Sharma needs to play Tesr Cricket
5. That Tendulkar is overrated
6. That Ishant needs a good bowling coach in the touring party
7. That Harbhajan in India and Harbhajan outside India are 2 different bowlers
8. That India plays quality spin well is restricted to a few players
9. THAT DHONI IS A COMPLETELY USELESS BATSMAN ON SEAMING, SWINGING OR BOUNCY TRACKS
10. Bowlers win u test matches on a competitive track

I don't agree with all 10 but agree with most. very good post Anindya.

83 world cup was won with what were considered as mediocre bowlers like Roger Binny, Mohinder Amernath and Madan lal. But they had one weapon in their arsenal. They could swing the ball by a foot.

None of these current major bowlers could do anything much. Lack of strategy and not able to adapt to the conditions is the biggest failure of our team. Both in batting and bowing. They were just moon alking.

Dravid scored 3 centuries in lost causes, that does diminish his efforts just cause we lost.

We lost to a very good side.England bat very deep,up to number 10 after leaving out Anderson who is no mug with the bat and can hang around, while our batting ends with at 7 in seaming/swinging conditon.Toothless & useless attack draw was our best result.Fielding, start with DHoni he collects the ball always near his shoe, the slips therefore stand much behind you will seldom see Indian slippers taking catches near their shoulder always diving forward and we dont learn .How can you win with Harbajan Singh bowling the way he is, was played more for his batting than belief he wud get wickets. Even with Zaheer we only have a decent attack unlike potent English our bowlers are a good 15 Kmph slower.

Now coming to batting effectively we played with 3 batsmen Sachin, Dravid and Laxman . These were the only wickets that mattered who exuded any confidance when they were at crease , we lost a couple wickets against the run of play at crucial times , Laxman a couple of times to pull shots , run out of Tendulkar and he being unwell at Lords besides the misfortune of Dravid s dismissal in both innings of last test.

The youngsters were a total flop raina and yuvraj and dhoni just didnt measure up.What a shame just about 30 overs to be negotiated in the last innings and we might have saved the test we lose 7 wickets for 21 runs.

No offenae to anyone just my views

dhonis performance is not that bad, other players esp. raina, ishant, rp singh, gambhir failed miserably..tendulkar has done a lot for cricket, yes Rohit sharma should be given a chance and also kohli, nehra, tyagi, jaffer etc.

Failures in proper selection
by KVSK Prasad on Aug 23, 2011 07:34 AM

There were utter blunders committed by the selection committee. It is almost as if they tend to have a standard recipe for selecting a squad. A lot of questions beg to be asked -

1. Why was there no back-up opener in the team? We backed up the keeper, but what about openers. Any team has 2 openers and one keeper. Chances of one of the openers getting injured are always higher. Still.
2. Why was Sehwag rushed in before his recovery was complete? Is it not because of this that he is now carrying a bigger risk.
3. Gambhir was persisted with despite injury.
4. Bajji kept bowling despite carrying an injury in the second test. Why?
5. RP Singh was flown in as Zaheer's replacement. Between RP and Munaf, captain selects RP. Why was Munaf even selected?
6. There is so much of bench strength in batting. We have Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Badrinath - why was then that Raina persisted with despite failure to trouble the scorers?
7. What about Nehra? Why was he kept out?

I believe this shame was brought to the nation by wrong selection of players and a captain who was essentially going through the motions.

TIME TO TAKE ACTION
by tejpal singh on Aug 23, 2011 07:26 AM

ITS HIGH THAT BCCI TAKES SOME STRICT ACTION AGAINST PLAYERS AND SELECTORS. WHEN THE BCCI PAYS SO HEAVILY TO THESE PEOPLE GIVES THEM THE OPTION TO CHOOSE A SERIES TO PLAY AND NOT TO PLAY THEN SUCH A PERFORMANCE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE THEY SHOULD STOP ALL THE WC REWARDS TO THESE PEOPLE AND ALSO SAY SOME HARSH WORDS

Rahul's worthy effort always has been overshadowed by Tendulkar's useless achievement.
Even now if Tendu had scored the coveted 100th 100, then everybody would have forgotten Rahul's valiant effort.

Achievement being called useless shows ur knowledge. if i can speak by ur standards, i can say that Rahul Dravid scored 3 centuries in this series and we lost all the matches. But i would be a fool like u to say so. Dravid's valiant effort need not be pointed out by the media. it is well known to the team and public.

Spun by the Spinner
by Jose Sucorinho Antao on Aug 23, 2011 03:17 AM

It is well known that Indians are not too good in facing the fast bowlers or swing bowlers
especially on foreign pitches but when they cannot play swann who is no where close to either shane warne or muthiah muralitharan in spinning the ball, than it is of grave concern for the famed Indian batting line - up.
