What is the point to prove?
by Mathews George on Aug 22, 2011 07:55 PM

It is so pathetic to state unwanted issues being debated by some persons who rarely uses their brain to do the thinking. If you are so particular on the age for peforming, who are the better batsmen? DRAVID is the best from Indian side. He is 38. What did Raina, Mukund, Sehwag, Dhoni (except 1 innings) do? we lost because of various reasons. our team did not accustom to the climate, senseless bowling as well as batting... many more. But not due to age factor. stop writing nonsense please.

What for

I do not understand what for these old players- Laxman, Sachin and Dravid are playing still. Sachin and Dravid have played for very long time and scored heavily in tests. What is the point in depriving youngsters from playing during their prime youth for the Country. Rohit, Kohli, Raina, Mithun, Pujara, Manoj are all young and trying to get in to team but these seniors by using their past records blocking their way. While most of the international teams have rested their seniors our senior players still hungry for money and fame, which is sad for India. Now that we have seen what tired legs and hands have done, let us build a strong team comprising youngsters. The presence of seniors in the team is affecting morale of younger players.

Correct. If BCCI is waiting for Sachin's 100th century then they should immidiately organise a home series with Zimbabway or Bangladesh and finish the matter quickly.

See how Raina and Yuvraj have fared in Tests! It is not age that matters, it is how one performs that matters! If Dravid is old, and can be replaced, show another fit youngster, who can play. Whoever were given the opportunity did not use that or got injured and missed because of that.

Agree with you Jay. Except for the Age factor everyone is telling senior players has to be replaced. Only one question to those great people Take the windies and england tour and do an analysis as who scored more runs. Raina and Virat has been given lot of opportunities in this two series but they hardly succeeded.

Boss, so do you mean to say that all our senior players should play till eternity? Virat played in just one series and you say that he has been given enough opportunities. We need to build for the future. We should have started the process long back so that the youngsters could watch the seniors and use their tips and suggestions to be better players.

virat has got chance in west indies only where he was down the leg side twice and was uncomfortable facing short balls but raina has been going sothwards in his form ..i still believe that virat overall is a better bat han raina, more compact and raina sometimes throws his wkt away thereby underperforming vis a vis virat

wrong selection committee
by Ashvini chhabra on Aug 20, 2011 12:13 PM  | Hide replies

The selection committee headed by K Shrikanth should be changed. Our batsmen are failing miserably on english pitches. Shrikanth himself was not great test match batsman in terms of technique so what basis he will be able to judge the right batsman for bouncy & seeming tracks. Former players like Gavaskar,Ravi shastri, M Amarnath, Dilip Vengsarkar, S Manjrekar should be given the opportunity to select the batsmen for these conditions as they had the right technique & temprament. Same goes true for pace bowlers & unfortunately, there is no good ex-pace bpwler in this committee. For poor show in the current england tour, I put more blame on bowlers than the batsmen as they are not capable of taking the 20 wickets. Since more than 2 years , it was noticed that our bowling is weak & this was the worry during 2011 world cup. howver, World cup is 50 overs show & with controlled line & length, even if we don't wickets, controlling the run rate can win us the matches but that is not the case with test match. We need 2 all rounder who can bat a bit in case the top order fails. Once Dhoni gets out, there is no one who can bat sensibly. Praveen Kumar's batting is lottery. Irfan Pathan must be brought back to side. In terms of technique, Rohit Sharma & Cheteshwar Pujara are far better than Suresh Raina & Virat Kohli for test matches. Shreesanth is useless bowler.Wasim Jaffer must be in.

While I agree on most of your suggestions, I do not agree on your comment about Virat Kohli. He is definitely best bet among all youngsters in India now. He has temperament of leading our test team in future. The biggest mistake selectors did was to ignore Wasim Jaffer who was a compact opening batsman for test matches. In spite of scoring two double hundreds for India as opening batsman in tests he is ignored by selectors. strange.

Points regarding selector does not make any sense. It is like you are saying Tendulkar failed just because he was selected by someone who had poor technique! What logic!

Yes, other points are relevant. When one side knows that the other team does not have the bowling to take 20 wickets in a Test, things can go this way. It is still a mind game. Irfan is a very good batsman, but his bowling is nowhere near his best for getting into the team. I hope he rediscovers his bowling. Pujara had two major injuries which forced him to miss matches, else he was the best to bat after Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman in the middle order. He may get his chance soon!

by RAKESH DOGRA on Aug 20, 2011 11:34 AM

I think Indian team has still not come out of celebration mode of World cup win which we got after 27-28 years.
We must accept it that its human tendency that he becomes carelesss after acheiving big success.England should not feel as if they have become unbeatable team in the world.Yes they have good time right now but it takes just one series to get on floor. So let us give time to Indian team.

India's problems started even before the WI tour
by Nikhil Shah on Aug 20, 2011 12:14 AM

Let us take the SA tour. Zaheer misses the first Test and gives up 500 runs with the SA batting going havoc. It manages to win the next Test but could not get the SA tail in the 3rd Test to win the Test series.

The 1-day series saw the missing of seniors because the WC was around and India's bowling attack was not the same in the WC as it was in the SA 1-day series. So Ended up picking Piyush Chawla who has not bowled much in international cricket. A blunder which was again covered up by the Seniors and winning the Cup.

The WI tour starts with complacent Indian team which is over-confident but lack proper integration of youngsters. Rahane with a batting average of 67 was missing and Varun Aaron who hit 153kph was never in the picture.

The England tour was a true Test and without Sehwag and Zaheer, even with them was going to be tough against a well prepared English side.

Overall the crunching of SA, World Cup, WI and English conditions caused this debacle.
