How is this different from match fixing
by Saif on Aug 02, 2011 10:40 PM

Dhoni's decision was a clear subversion of the rule of the game of Cricket. Money may not have exchanged the hands but he bowed to the spectator's wishes. It was not just Dhoni but Fowler and Bell were equally guilty of rule breach even to approach opposing captain for a re-consideration. All three, Dhoni, Fletcher and Bell should be held guilty of connivance and charged with malpractice.
This pretty much opens the way for host countries to invite 'complying' teams/captain to get a better draw at the gates.

Could have been avoided
by Michael Ponnudurai on Aug 02, 2011 01:02 PM

If you watch the proceedings, none, except Dhoni and Saha were keen on taking the bails off. Rest of the India players were trudging slowly towards the pavilion. This shows that almost all players except those two, were proceeding for Tea. The appeal need not have been made in the first place. Having appealed and got a decision, what Dhoni did was correct.
Having said this, this gesture did not have any impact on the match as Bell contributed just twenty more runs and in fact England piled on 260 odd runs after Bell's departure. And India caved in without a fight in the second innings. So, with or without Dhoni's actions, result would not have been any different. India should look inwards, realise weaknesses and focus to improve in the next two Tests.

DHONI'S DECISION
by Gopal Krishnan on Aug 02, 2011 12:44 PM

Dhoni is quite intelligent. He was well aware that the game had slipped out of his hand. There was no way India could have saved this test leave alone the question of winning. He got an opportunity to gain some reputation and image that he did. Recalling a batsman has happened in the past also. Sobers ruled Kundaran not out in eden gardens, England recalled Alvin Kallicharan after Tony grieg had run him out of the last ball of the day, Vishwanath recalled Taylor. However, England did not bother to recall Srikanth on his debut, Wasin Akram did not recall Sachin. Walsh had displayed great sportmanship during 1987 World Cup and did not run out pakistan batsman. As Sourav Ganguly said this decision of Dhoni did not have a bearing on the result of the match. Let us admit that we have been defeated fair and square.

Dhoni is not right
by Saurabh Jain on Aug 02, 2011 12:08 PM

What Dhoni did is not right. Inspite of being captain. of world campion team Dhoni comes under pressure of english team. Bell was out because of error of judgement just as our great Sachin is out in the 2nd inninng, the only different is the subject matter of error in judgement. The whole incident is noting to do with sprit of the game. Even if, for some it is sprit of the game then also it should be out because a fair play sport of sport should always prevail in the sence that at international level everyone should be well versed with all rules & regulation. Also, if a batsmans gives ball to a fielder it is just a gester from the concern batsmans, so it noting to do with appealing against the batsman, so it should be kept separately from what had happened on 4th day of the 2nd test. Futher the incidence should be taken purely in a separate case when it concern with outcome of the match.

Dhoni is a great leader and see what he has achieved in his short career.Current Indian team has Sachin(So called great batsmen),Dravid(old jack with no motivation),Laxman(inconsistant,Raina and Yuvi(casual)and Delhites Ishant/Gambhir(politicians) who were carried as a team by Dhoni but we Indians can sacrifice performance just to pull a successful man down and prove him wrong. So guys wake up! Be Indian and support your team even if it is in doldrums. It's a good team.

u must be die hard dhoni fan...
but let me tell u what dhoni achieve in his short career is bcoz the so called great batsmen score 10 tons in 2011...
old jack with no motivation help u draw matches when u r in shadow of loosing....
and about world cup, dhoni played only in final while in other matches he is complete failure,
sachin, yuvraj and raina r guys who lead us to this triumph....
dhoni in last 10 innings in test not even manage to score aggregate 100 runs means his avg. is less than 10...
buddy ur great leader is not doing fine job, even darren sammy does great job wid his team which is ratteled by many worse situations....
i'm not dhoni hater,
i like to watch him play in past but nowadays he is busy doing ads worth 200 crores and launching sakshi's foundation....

Dhoni was wrong....
by Raj India on Aug 02, 2011 11:15 AM

Only the shameless Indian team will tell this is an apt decision.... If a batsman does not know the basic principles of batting, then he does not deserve to get such a life. We had seen the match and convinced that Bell departed from crease not because of any confusion as the England captain told. He was confirmed that the ball went past the boundary... A batsman should leave crease only after the ball become dead... In this case, the English team's approach was not correct. This is just because Dhoni want to impress the media and gallery. He was sure that Bell's departure will not make anything good for team India, but he want to get some applauds from the gallery... The same Dhoni blamed the players like Pathan in the world cup that some players are playing for the gallery and not for the team... Now, Dhoni's tough time will follow...

Dhoni was completely wrong...
by Surya Prakash on Aug 02, 2011 11:03 AM

On day 3, the Indian bowling was massacred by the English batsman including their low order batsman scoring 417 runs in a single day !!!. Their WK Matt Prior & Broad make a joke of our bowling. On day 4 Bresman comes our rubbing salt into our injury scoring at will and almost a century. Our media starts writing that now the pitch is batting friendly. Now the Indian innings start and we fall like 9 pins including the 3 batting greats. 3 batsman Mukund, Raina & Yuvraj cannot play the shortball and batting greats like Sachin, VVS cannot judge Inswingers. I wonder how the English batsman raised the bar few thousand feet and we lowered our bar few thousand feet. An amazing turnaround to our Cricketers becoming ZEROES from HEROES. Winning & Losing is a part of sport and life. But what is shocking is the way, Indians have been beaten to pulp. I wonder what was Sachin\'s contribution when Dhoni ran out of ideas when our bowlers were belted on Day 4. Dhoni\'s luck has run out. He was never good with the bat and now he will have a hard time. The only one who can save India is SEHWAG if he can get into form. Otherwise let us be ready for a 4-0 drubbing. The English have really improved a lot and are clearly the World no.1. Imagine their bowlers toying with our bowling and straightway come back and wreck our strong batting line-up in 2 hours. They are in the best form of their life and we are left shell shocked and devastated.
