I would say it this way: "Its good to hear in news and everywhere that big heart Indians gave another life to Bell and blah blah" but the fact is "Its a game and you go by the rules not by heart".
This looks like an situation where I used to play gali cricket and when out on the 1st ball we shout saying not out "It was a trial ball"... Think about it!!!

Bingo! Well said....
I too remember the gully cricket scenario where we used to rule out dismissals quoting fast bowling, trial ball, baby-over, etc. Unfortunately for Dhoni, all this does not exist in ICC rules.

Rule is rule, it's always equal to all. and there is an umpire to decide. dhoni, u r going to play for india. all matches are a competition, equivalent to war. it's not a friendly match man.

MATCH WAS IMPORTANT
by wasym ahmed on Aug 02, 2011 12:30 AM

What Dhoni did was highly appreciable but u cannot do that in a game which is very important for the rest of the series. I remember the incident of sachin tendulkar's collusion with shoaib akhtar in kolkata test match. sachin was run out without any fault of his but wasim akram did not recall sachin coz the run out was in within the law of the game. i know some people will say that pakistani's are cheat and they are not gfentlemen but at the end of the day the record is in favour of pakistan.

The right thing!
by rajesh prajapati on Aug 01, 2011 11:39 PM

Yes, Dhoni did the right thing in recalling Bell, perhaps the only right thing that Indians did in the last three days of the Trent Test Match. However, I am no sure whether they did it to upheld the spirit of the game or they felt sheepish about their own appeal or were shocked by the boooos of the crowd. But whatever, the reasons that was the only bright spot for India!

thats spirit of game

it was dhoni's call as a captain to recall bell.
as by the rules of icc bell was out by any means but with the spirit of game Indians gave him life.we give importance to emotions thats what we r known for.we cant behave like the ozs and english people who can call our greats cheater by saying they put vaseline on their bat.english players can put jelly beans on cricket pitch its right??? where was spirit of game then???

What Dhoni did was right in the sprit of the game. But what Ian Bell or Staruss done is wrong. They know that it is out. The ball has not crossed the boundary line. A batsamn has to ensure whether he scored a boundary or not. Without looking at, he just walking and got out. Bell or Strauss should have rejected Dhoni's offer of call back. Then both team would have maintained the sprit of the game. Whether we are losing or winning does't matter. All these years we are winning and losing. Have we bothered about anything. Do we still analysing any of the 70's or 80's match?

Dhoni Decision.
by rakesh sadhu on Aug 01, 2011 11:19 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni was totally wrong in recalling Ian Bell. Bell had no business assuming that it was a boundary, the over had been called & tea had been called. And, to Strauss & Flower, he should have reminded them of the Champions Trophy match between England & South Africa, when Strauss refused a runner to Graeme Smith who was cramping up badly, so bad that he could barely walk & eventually fell for a gallant 140 plus. Spirit of Cricket is for those who play by it not for those who seek refuge in such hollow excuses. Fact is, England still haven't forgotten the successful 387 run chase by India at Chennai & thus wanted Bell to bat as long as possible. The English batting has looked brittle this series unlike during the Ashes & some totally inept captaincy from Dhoni has allowed them to take a 2-0 lead.

unfortunate that you are comparing horses and donkeys. just because they didn't, it doesn't mean we should act the same way. dhoni proved that he is great not only in the captain material, but as a great sportsman too. he is coooooooool! Long live Dhoni and Indian cricket

Indian team lacks australian or pakistani team's killer instinct. I seriously doubt whether India really won the world cup, or was it cooked up.

Gopi, take a break. For Bell's mistake, why should our guys show good sportsmanship? We simply lack the killer instinct.
