Padamshri and Bharat Ratna have got no meaning
by spectratrade on Apr 07, 2011 05:58 PM

When you can buy these honours and people who deserve never get these honours whats the worth of these. Sachin is above bharat ratna, he lives in our heart, difficult to find such a dedicated sportsman all over the world. Similar for Gary, his dedication shows on his face and respect his team , indian people have for him, which is much above any of these honors,

Why not?
by MOHNISH VARMA on Apr 07, 2011 05:52 PM  | Hide replies

Had it been an Indian player in place of Gary and the team had exhibited the same splendid performance, what would have been our stance? If it was "Yes" for Padmashree then, it should be "Yes" for Gary as well. The question should be whether this achievement/performance deserves Padmashree and not whether it should be given to Gary....

Yesterday we lost two jawans in Kashmir . Has Tendulkar or Dhoni performed any better ?

Maybe I am wrong comparing the two but then a colonel dying fighting to save the country deserves a Ratna before a sportsman .

Bharat Ratan is not meant to be given to sportsmen when it comes of sports it has to be khel ratan nothing more .

Its totally uncalled for and I am sure Indians will respect the benchmarks which have been framed .

Tendulkar deosnt deserve it . He played WC six times and has failed consistently in all pressure matches including WC -2011 finals .

We Must felicitate the captain instead of him and set an example for the sportmen of Future .

If anyone deserves a Bharat Ratan in this country he should be an Indian Soldier and not a sportsman .The dignity of this honour needs to be maintained .

dear, no media exagarrated the country saver neither they care or need to. on death their body get covered with tri color, bigger than and 'ratna' or 'shree'
they don't hit a six for crores but hit the attackers of our country, if died their poor parents and fighting families get short lasting sympathy and tearing words with little money
to live on.

All may not agree with this, but a soldier(Officer) or Policeman serving/dying for their country IS NOT THE SAME as a professional performing for the country. The first one is doing his duty. He/She has been trained to do it and HAS NO CHOICE but to obey the instruction/command, even if it is wrong. But a sportsman/scientist/artiste performing great feats for the cause of country is different. There also there is a difference. Some professionals claim to serve the country, but their motive is money, fame, records, etc. Very few professionals dedicate their service for their country, give away their earning, or perform as a service. Sachin has a weakness, he plays for records. Subbalakshmi gave many concerts for the sake of charity, she gave away most of her wealth. Sachin is busy setting up expensive/money-spinning hotels, earns money from all kinds of (even misleading and false) ADs, earning crores of rupees. Instead, let Sachin spend as large part of his wealth for (1) creating Cricket Academies (2) play cricket for charity (3) play/ give money for players' benevolent funds (4) coach young players, etc. Then, and only then, he can qualify for Bharat Ratna.

subramanian, right you are but if i am offered crores against posting to cargil i will leave cargil and money. i am just an ordinary man and fighting life on. i think our country needs the culture of sports for better life. now-a-days you see parents are the most culprit to discourage them - how the spine of our society can stand straight! for this ofcourse we need a promoter and you will get one if media do wait there.
