The WC made me really happy because it proved many poor guys to eat their words.. many now dont have words to yell at the hardworking players.. 1. Sachin haters - Sachin never won WC. Now, he did it!! 2. Dhoni haters - No performance but only luck.. Did it in the best possible manner.. 3. Yuvi - Water boy, bad attitude.. The man of the tournament. 4. Raina, Nehra, munaf, Bhajji - Dhoni's frnds. But performed a notch higher and struck at crucial times.

Yes - I think even Piyush Chawla chipped in. He was at least important in the confidence boosting win over Aussies in the warm up match. That warm up match was important in retrospect, as it exposed the Oz incompetence against top notch spinners. Ultimately we won against Aussies in QFs with spinners mostly, and that win pushed up the confidence of the team and the whole of India to back themselves for winning this. The group stages were problematic for lack of genuine competition, but yet the whole tourney was very entertaining and India won match after match under extreme pressure and tension, from potentially losing positions. India fully deserves the crown.
I think this is the passing of a great generation of players that had continued from the batch of 2003. I think the 2003 team had better bunch of bowlers with Javagal and Kumble in their ranks, while this bunch has a better batting lineup. I think 3 men shone most brightly in this team - Sachin, Zak and Yuvi. I think the effort that Yuvraj put in tipped the balance of things towards Indians. His form with the bat solidified the batting lineup, and his maturity to a wicket taking bowler enabled Dhoni to go in confidently with 4 specialist bowlers. Amazingly he was the second best bowler after Zak and indeed it was an amazing effort by Yuvraj. There were great contributions from all other members, but undoubtedly these 3 are the most capable and outstanding cricketers of this generation. I guess India will still have a formidable batting lineup after Sachin, but what will happen to the bowling after Zak? I see no such person who can even slightly match his performances. India should step up efforts to find more fast bowlers at both test and ODI level following the success of this campaign so that by 2015 we can put together another great team.

Although I cannot follow your brilliant verses I agree on one thing - this win was enabled by choking on the part of the superstrong Proteas team. The South Africans were the only team to beat India in this WC, great that we did not have to contend with them in the final.

and that was full motioned sweetened ocean being salt halted by kiwis killing the flying proteas on ground zero and later themselves being inserted deeper into the ground haha.
Mumbai Indians team has a much better bowling attack than team India. It has Lasith Malinga among others. So why can't Sachin win the IPL with such a strong team? Dhoni's team had a much weaker bowling attack and still won the IPL and the Champions league. Why?

To understand the answer to that question you'll first need to learn cricket... In other words, come back to the discussion in 13 years, 2 months and 23 days!! :)

Infact, if Dhoni captained the Sri Lankan side instead of Sanga, I'm sure he would have defended 275 comfortably having bowlers like Malinga, Murali and Randiv.

That's precisely what I wanted to say. Dhoni is a smart captain who maximizes the available resources. Sachin, on the other hand, in spite of the unlimited money of Ambanis, can't make MIs win. And in last year's IPL final, he choked agian.

Under Dhoni's captaincy, not a single Indian bowler figured in the top 15 in economy rate. Dhoni's mantra is to pick bowlers like Munaf, sreesanth etc and pray that Zaheer, Yuvraj and Harbhajan will come to his rescue.

well said... Warne is the greatest captain ever... coz he won the inaugural IPL tournament... :)
India did very well in the last tour of England in 2007, when Dravid was the captain, but India had no coach. We will be touring England again in the July of this year and will play 4 tests. This time again, team will be without a coach. Tours of England are real tests of a batsman's technique because ball swings and seams a lot. That should be exciting, after all this hoopla about the world cup. But will players be fit enough, because they have to play a month of IPL! Hopefully slowly younger guns will make it to the test team also...

Yes - Kohli should be indoctrinated in the test team. It is high time that this promising youth start his test career.
This is no knock on sachin's personal achievements. To say that he carried a lonesome burden until now does injustice to many a brilliant player India produced since Sachin started playing for the country. Players like Dravid, Laxman, Azar, Ganguly etc. were world class in their own right. We tend to ovelook the instances when they carried the team after Sachin failed in key moments. In every world series, excluding bilaterals, Sachin failed when it mattered most, with the trophy on the line, including this WC. Even in bilateral series, the most memorable wins are those with outstanding performances by Laxman, Harbhajan etc. Yuvi was the most valuable player thrice, Under 19, T20, and WC. Yuvi holds the unique distinction of hitting 6 sixes in an over in a world series. Sachin, inspite of being a batting legend, could not achieve either, even after a 20 year international career. It's a pleasure to watch Sachin score a century, but it's a bigger thrill watching team India win petty politics and corruption notwithstanding.

Please think again. Before the Ganguly era the team was solely dependent on this man alone for getting to big scores. The 1996 WC and many other instances. We saw the backboneless batting displays in South African series, and taking out Sachin breaks the backbone. Indian batsmen flourish at home, only a few including Sachin have succeeded abroad. I can guarantee that once Sachin retires Indian batting performances will markedly take a dip. The batting still has some stars - more importantly I shudder to imagine what will the bowling be like once Zaheer retires.

Diehard Sachin fans who fail to give other Indian cricketers credit are not cricket fans actually. They are blinded by adulation of one man without understanding the game.

Friend, i'm not criticizing sachin one bit. but if you watch cricket you do know what i mean to say. cricket is a team game, and of late we have talented batsmen who especially played very well this tourney.

Sachin is God of Cricket... His records will be unbeaten... Others are jealous of him only because he is Marathi.... What a low, corrupt mentality of others? Shame on them.. Jai Sachin.
