I am amazed at why people still havent gotten it right about why Dhoni promoted himself.

Gautam and Virat were playing with a mixed approach, which was working perfectly. While Gautam was taking chances against lesser attacks, Virat was playing the anchor role, steadily boosting partnership while playing second fiddle, and blocking the good deliveries.

When he was out, Dhoni found himself the perfect opportunity to play Kohli's role, to continue blocking deliveries that are hard, and leave the risk taking to Gautam.

In the end, when they would need to fire, Yuvraj would be next in line along with Raina.

But Dhoni himself kept going strong, mainly because of the no risk approach. It was ideal from Dhoni's perspective, because he wasnt getting enough runs, and only needed to play sheet anchor role, which he did, until all hell broke loose.

The left handed - right handed partnership was an added bonus, but the primary reason was the very fact that it was an ideal time for someone like DHONI to block deliveries and take zero risks while only rotating strike with singles.

The greatest captain India has produced, without a doubt. People get sentimental and value Kapil Dev and Ganguly, but Dhoni led a team of superstars with the firmest belief and professionalism, something that onky the likes of Imran Khan and Steve Waugh had achieved.

Where are Dhoni Bashers
by KRISHNA V on Apr 03, 2011 08:07 PM  | Hide replies

Now that India has won the world cup, where are all Dhoni Bashers? No one to be seen anywhere in Rediff. As told earlier, all of Dhoni Bashers should publicly apologize unconditionally for their irresponsible remarks.

n average Indian is completely fed up with so many social problems that he faces every day - broken roads, scarcity of water/contaminated water supply at home, long traffic jams, irritation at market place, Page 3 of news papers full of crimes news in the city.

Also, the common man in India is irritated by various failures of the Govt like food inflation, massive scams like 2G, CWG, Cash for vote, black money in Swiss accounts, and various other scandals.

For the battered common man Cricket is the best healer. If one watches cricket for 8 hours everyday and discusses it rest of the time, he will forget all the pain due to the above mentioned issues.

Many many thanks to the consumer companies who are putting enormous money in cricket, so that Indian common man gets the daily doze of glamorous cricket. Its 6 weeks of World cup, then next 6 weeks of IPL, then England tour in summer. We do not need to worry about the problems and issues. Let them happen, Why should we care about them when we already have a daily doze of cricket, the best Healer or the Drug!

Companies pay cricketers in millions for ads and take that money from the consumers by increasing the prices. We are so blind, alomost like the goat tied in the shop of the butcher who is going to be killed but happy with the grass given by the butcher.

Govt's Bonanza to Common Men over India's Win
by Chintan Patel on Apr 03, 2011 06:58 PM  | Hide replies

Of late, Dr.Manu,PM,has woken up from his slumber and conceded that India's win in WC means nothing to common men if its benefits do not percolate down to the rock bottom to bring cheer all around. Therefore, he has opened his kitty i.e pandora box to offer a slew of sweatmeats :
i) 2nd April will be observed as National Holiday every year.
ii) All Cricketers and other stakeholders who have raked up a lot of moolah will donate the entire amount to the poorest sections of society as philanthropy and will not waste wealth on his own as well as family members.
iii) Each Corporate who advertised will lower their product prices to rein in Inflation by tomorrow morning.
iv) All scamsters, scandal operators , corrupt busines houses will be brought to justice book and severly punished within 3 days.
v) Real Journalism will prevail rather than paid service.
vi) Govt ministers and officials will not work for the benefit of private cos and mere lip service on Corruption will not be shown.
v) Core Sector Industries particularly Cement and Oil & Gas Industry will immdiately stop working as cartelisation and reduce the prices of their products by at least 50%.
vi) Cold Drink Industry who advertise heavily on Ad Budget will not waste their money on Cricketers and sell their drinks @ Rs.1-3 per bottle which is its actual cost.
vii)Cricket will be played as Sacred Game rather bookies game.No politicians will be directly or indirectly involved.
This will be true Inclusi

Importanly, Kashmir or Pak Issue will not be raised again to misguide public to derive political mileage.
Fake Border tension will not be created. Punishment to all Defence people who made money out of it for years including those from Adarsh Hosg .
Religion/Castesim will not be an agenda for Poll plant.
Political Party will not be backing any aggitation for Caste Reservation and blocking road, stopping train, burning effigy to cause problems for common mass.

This will be true victory symbol if Cricket Win is to be celebrated.
