I think whole credit for winning world cup gone to partnership between Gatum and Kohli because they did not drop the run rate below 5 even Indian have lost two quick wickets. Moreover 75% matches won only because of batting display

Shame on Yaddyurappa
by Sanjay B on Apr 04, 2011 08:59 AM  | Hide replies

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa announced his government would honour the victorious cricket players with a residential plot each from the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA).
This CM is really mad and not at all thinking of lower class and middle class people without having a shelter for long.
O God, please save India from these kind of politicians.

I am amazed at why people still havent gotten it right about why Dhoni promoted himself.

Gautam and Virat were playing with a mixed approach, which was working perfectly. While Gautam was taking chances against lesser attacks, Virat was playing the anchor role, steadily boosting partnership while playing second fiddle, and blocking the good deliveries.

When he was out, Dhoni found himself the perfect opportunity to play Kohli's role, to continue blocking deliveries that are hard, and leave the risk taking to Gautam.

In the end, when they would need to fire, Yuvraj would be next in line along with Raina.

But Dhoni himself kept going strong, mainly because of the no risk approach. It was ideal from Dhoni's perspective, because he wasnt getting enough runs, and only needed to play sheet anchor role, which he did, until all hell broke loose.

The left handed - right handed partnership was an added bonus, but the primary reason was the very fact that it was an ideal time for someone like DHONI to block deliveries and take zero risks while only rotating strike with singles.

The greatest captain India has produced, without a doubt. People get sentimental and value Kapil Dev and Ganguly, but Dhoni led a team of superstars with the firmest belief and professionalism, something that onky the likes of Imran Khan and Steve Waugh had achieved.

Well done team India
by Sanjay B on Apr 04, 2011 08:54 AM  | Hide replies

All members of the Team India performed well to lift this biggest award of Cricket. It was their profession and they got this success after 28 years.
But, how good it is to award them with crores of money from central government and state governments as a token of appreciation? I dont think any indian will support this.

Where were these Politicians when Sandeep Unnikrishnan sacrificed hiself for sake of the entire nation? He was not given even a piece of land! What the hell these politicians want to prove by donating public money and properties to those who only did their duty! Its grossly not fair. Real heroes are our soldiers who saves our country and throw away their lives for all of us! How mean we all are! We even do not show Sympathy to them! Shame on these Politicians and we people of India!

zaheer - you are real hero
by keyur shah on Apr 04, 2011 08:24 AM  | Hide replies

everyone is talking a contribution of Sachin, Sehvag, Gambhir, Kohli, Yuvraj, Dhoni etc... why we always forget to praise our bowlers when they perform well. Zaheer was best bowler (highest wicket taker) of tournament without his contribution, we could not seen our team in Semi-final also. I don't say to not praise batsmen but bolwer also deserve the same credit. Why media shows contribution of batsman only...In my eyes, Zaheer you are a real hero of this winning team than all other 14 members...Remember, whenever & whereever India required Wicket there was always "ZAHEER" only who provided Wicket. Player like him must get more credit (in all terms) than others....but as u know that this is India....so as always credit goes to...batsman...captain...

Dhoni clicked only in one match.. that was just a luck,,, yes and we needed the lucck.. Zaheer bowled really bad in the second spell evn worse than sreesant.... but still Zaheer is one main plyer who took india to finals... full credit to him...

I am die hard fan of cricket and yesterdays win will be remembered for next 50 years but it again showed that India is country to live only for rich and famous - Common people dont stand any where. Common people cant buy tickets for matches. Every famous person want to cash in for there own publicity and share. Sonia Gandhi who dont know anything of cricket was celebrating with common people. Poonam Pandey wants to strip in Paris. Ambani is every where as if he is Captain of Indian cricket team. Sheila Dixit is giving 2 cores to players - Has any journalist has asked her from where she got 10 cores to distribute to those 5 players. Sharad Pawar has become ICC president by filling pockets of Zimbabwe, WI, Srilanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya and South Africa cricket boards - He dont need rest remaining countries vote to be ICC president and those all money is of poor Indian farmers and I am a common man of India will sleep tonight and go to work tomorrow to run my family and pay taxes to my beloved country - so all the above people can be more rich.........

SACHIN this was for you
by Gladiator on Apr 04, 2011 07:41 AM  | Hide replies

Remember when you failed an examination. How many people recall that, your class, friends, relatives? You failed to make it to the IITs or IIMs. Who remembers. How many times have you had the feeling of being the best in your class, school , university, state, you failed to get a visa stamped this quarter…, you missed a promotion this year…, how did it feel when you dad told you in your early twenties that you are good for nothing, and now your boss tell you the same..

You keep introspecting and go into a shell when people most of whom don’t matter a dime in your life criticize you, back bite you, make fun of you. You are left sad and shattered and you cry when your own kin scoffs at you. You say I am feeling low today. It takes a lot from us to come out of these everyday situations and move on. A lot? really?

Now here’s a man standing on the third man boundary in the last over of a world cup match. The bowler just has to bowl sensibly to win this game. What the man at the boundary sees is 4 rank bad bowls bowled without any sense of focus, planning or regret. India loses, yet again in those circumstances when he has done just about everything right.

He does not cry. Does not show any emotion. Just keeps his head down and leaves the field. He has seen these failures for 22 years now. And not just his class, relatives, friends but the whole world has seen these failures. We are too immature to even imagine what go

He has single handedly lifted moods of this entire nation umpteen number of times. He has been an inspiration to rise above our mediocrity. Nobody who has ever lifted the willow even comes close to this man’s genius. His dedication and metal strength is unparallel. This is specially for those people who would have made fun of him when India loses. They are people who are mediocre in their own lives. Who just scoff at others to create cheap fun. Who have lived in a small hole throughout their lives and thought they have seen the oceans.

Imagine what would be the magnitude of the inner struggle for him, pain both mental and physical, tears that have frozen with time, knees and ankles and every other joint in the body that is either bandaged or needs to be attended to every night, eyes that don’t sleep before a big game, bats that have scored 99 international tons and still see expectations from a billion people. And he just converts those expectations into reality. We watch in awe, feel privileged.

It was time that his team realizes that enough is enough. They have an obligation, not towards their country alone but towards sachin. They need to win this one for him and they did. This is not just a game, and he is not just a sportsman. Its much more than this. Words fail here..

As Virat rightly said: Tendulkar has carried the burden of nation for 21 years; It was time we carried him.

Gary was not a real coach?
by thomas varghese on Apr 04, 2011 05:58 AM  | Hide replies

Gary kristen admitted around one year ago that he was doing nothing except being with the team and assisting the players. He told he didn't have much coaching experience. Also he told that there is no need for more coaching for these players (like Sachin) . " They are not school kids to coach them" . They got enough coaching and thats why they are in the team and what they need is real support for sucess. That is his tactics. Being with the team during practice sessions ( remember he comes first during practise sessions and leaves last ) and consider everyone's opinion during team meetings. On the other hand Greg Chappel is a real professional coach. He has his own ideas and formulas for success. What our team didn't do during Greg's coaching period was, to completly agree with his ideas and implementing them. In my opinion, if team india were 100% agreed with Greg's opinions, we also could have won world cup under his coaching. Each team gets the coach they deserve. For team india, they dont need a coach.
