Peoples only remember final matches and not the road to the finals. How one can ignore Kapil's knock against zimbabwe ( 175 runs) that ensure india to stay in tournament.... People only remember MOM in final and semi final Mohinder Amarnath and Roger Binny for superb bowling performance. Mohinder had scored 29 runs from 106 deliveries in final match.
Re: North Indian leadership is the key

I admire North indian leadership who can't change you and your states being produced maximum prime ministers ...
1)India is 1st team to win WC while hosting. 2)India is the first country , who have sucessfully chased target of 275 in WC final. 3)Sri Lanka is the only team who have lost final match being scored century by a player. 4)Idiot_srisanth was chosen as lucky charm and it works. 5) Superflop Dhoni came ahead of inform Yuvraj and clicked. 6)Mendis kept out by sangakkara inspite of good performance in earlier matches. 7)Muralitharan didn't get single wicket in his last match.

It is a fact that when North Indians started taking interest in cricket, India started winning in cricket. No wonder both the world cups were won by India under the captaincy of Northies like Kapil and Dhoni. Rest of the Indians, lack the naked aggression, and are weak in mind. They don't deserve to lead, and when they lead, defeats embrace us. Case in point, when Sachin was the captain. Basically the thing is this: rest of the Indians are like donkeys who perform only when flogged by North Indians. They are like Gadhas-converted-into-ghodas by the North Indian chabuk.

it is gadhas like Lalu,Mulayam and rest of northis serviving on the left overrs of southis and westners.and it was Saurav from Bengal who lifted the ICC Champions trophy in 2002.and above all Gavaskar from Maharashtra lifted the World Championship in 1985.

But it was indeed a pity that Kapil Dev became a South Indian in 1987...
Hope Dhoni doesn't repeat Kapil's mistakes; and remains a North Indian... Else we might have to find another captain in 2015, coz it might well be that your "intelligent" research actually means that the North Indians have limited "flogging" capabilities that disappear after one outing!!!

Rubbish. Which part of winning the 83 WC was a fluke? Can you explain that? Where you even born then, to comment? Both the wins are out of sheer team effort. The only difference is then people knew only Kapil and Gavaskar, but today every player of Indian Team is well known. We should have won in 2003 too. But few of the key members like sachin and Zaheer got carried away by the occassion and we couldn't recover to beat the mighty aussies then. But the self belief and team work are common things between 83 and 2011 triumphs. So no win is a fluke. Do not disregard the early achievement.

its your opinion and you can live with it, Winning world cup is not making any difference, 2011 team is number one also in both the formats of the game and maintaining it since last two years almost,,,,and going to maintain this rhythm in coming years also as we can see the development,,,,now go and check the record of 83 team of post and pre world cup series,

Pity that you hadn't invented the ICC ranking system in 1983... ;-)
As for pre world cup, India was defeated by the Real Champions South Africa just before getting into the World Cup, and again during the World cup too... :)

In 1985 India won Benson and hedges cup.......It is 1983 which changed the game in india. That's why today cricket is so popular, palyers are getting so much of money. U r a fool and don't know anything
openers Sehwag and Tendukar = 2X srikant and5 X gavaskar
Middle order Gambir, Kohli, = yashpal and Mohinder
Allrounders Raina, Yousuf and Yuvi = Kapildev, Sandeep patil, Ravi Shastri
Bowlers Zaheer, Harbajan, Nehra, Aswin = Madanlal, Kirti Azad
Wicket keeper Dhoni = Kirmani
The difference is the oppositions and adoptability, 2011 team played better according to situations, Dhoni played innings of his life. Kapil played inning of his life in group matches and best catch of his life in Finals.
Re: little bit comparison between 1983 and 2011
by Ashok Kumar on Apr 04, 2011 11:44 AM
The most common element between these 2 wins is the fearlessness for the opposition, no matter they were playing. We lost the 2003 final because we thought too much of Aussies' strengths rather than believing on our own.

I have read somewhere that Dhoni shave off his head at midnight between 2.45 A.M. to 3.00 A.M. as per instructions by some pandit....
As that pandit had adivised dhoni to do so after winning the world cup...
In finals toss, Ravi Shastri should have said loudly what sanga called and avoided retoss. Yuvi could have been rested for Netherland and Ireland, he played though he had severe ingestion, anyone watching his health status during his batting would have observed, he felt like vomiting many times. Yousuf pathan and Aswin was under utilised, may be India would have won comfortably if Yousuf or Aswin would have been in team. India played like champions so one or two player even if wrong decisions won it. Give credit to these guys too pls. The presence of Yousuf itself upsets opposition even before the start of game. Aswin was also under utilised, they were not provided opportunities like Chawla. When Srilanka can get last minute replacement for Angelo Mathews why another Indian was not replaced for injured Nehra, some one else could have got 1 crore and pride of becoming a played among world cup winner. India deserved to be winners as it is a team game and everyone contributed. Dont forget the contributions of players like Aswin who save few runs as substitute in Ind Pak match
success has many parents but failure is always an orphan. Now the entire nation is celebrating the victory as a greatest sporting achievement and this feeling has pushed many of our drawbacks under the carpet. If i raise it now it will be meaning less as i will be described as an anti indian. The main reason for the victory is sanka, actually he lost the toss and he lied forcing for a second spin of coin. If we had won the toss, they could have chased the total as the track was a batting paradise. The second is the fiery opening spell by zaki, which put pressure on the lankans and slowed their run rate, from which they recovered only during the powerplay Third is the brilliant fielding on the part of the three musketeers namely yuvi, koli and raina. Sachin at this age was also brilliant. Fourth, the poor team selection by the lankans spoiled their chance. FIfth the left right combination of the indian batting through out the match, thanks to Doni's and Kiestens wisdom. Last but not least the prayer of the whole nation. Lankan too prayed but we out numbered them due to huge population. I am too aged i.e 45 and will not have any chance to see the indian repeating it again in my life time. Well done India
