Dhoni

No doubt, Dhoni is a good captain and he won us the WC 2011. But to give all credit to him is only demeaning the contribution of others. He is lucky to have a good team of individuals and coaching staff. Like they say a captain is as good as the team. He cannot repeat the same performance by captaining minnow teams.

Enough of this world cup mania!!!
I am glad that our cricket team made through the world cup finals and this has definitely brought pride for all of us but my brothers and sisters, enough of this mania. It is time to focus on grave issue facing our country. Don't let this victory become a diverting factor for persuasion of corruption cases and scams.movement against corruption in India led by khejriwal, kiran bedi, Anna hazare and other eminent activists was gaining momentum when WC derailed it by distracting people. Please regain your focus and provide your support to movement to bring JAN LOKPAL BILL.Do not give easy by pass to corrupt politicians and bureaucrats.Take lesson from team India, we are capable to achieve anything with hard work, determination and focus.Use your enthusiasm and strength for betterment of out nation, support anti corruption movement.team India has done their job now its your turn. Don't fall far hype and cricket euphoria created by paid news channels.you know their truth from Nira Radia case, don't you?PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ,this is the testing time for your commitment towards creation of corruption free india for future generation.I request you all, give your attention to social movement and support it.Do not fall for momentary happiness and ruin perpetual victory.JAI HIND

Mr.Iyer, it is not merely for the past 4 days. It is actually for the past 2 months. The English news channels have gone over-board as if cricket is the be all and the end all. The players are over-hyped and cash awards, mostly by State Governments from the tax payers money, are pouring in. It is ridiculous. The word `world' for cricket is a misnomer. They talk of `one billion' audience for the game, forgetting that the entire one billion is in our poor country! A glorified game, pure hype and wasting the nation's time and diverting the attention from more pressing issues like poverty, scams, inflation etc.

I agree with you all.
Sonia and Rahul sitting in the stands was a political game to voo the voters in the State election.
Even making Pakistan loose the crucial match could be a political game to divert our attention from the Scams and corruption cases.
We the people are not bothered of billions of tax payers money siphoned away.
Wish we could be as concerned and involved with our daily issues and fight for our rights, dignity and self respect, the way we were involved for the 9 hours at Wankhede on 2nd April 2011

It was very nice of President Pratibha Patil to go
all the way to Bombay to watch the match and also
to stay back to felicitate Dhoni and Team India
in Bombay itself on Sunday at Raj Bhavan.

That really shows that she cares for the feelings
of the Bombayites as much, if not more, than the rest
of us Indians.

Last time when India won the World cup our late P M Mrs Indira Gandhi felicitated the winning team. So our P M may also follow suit and should not be behind any body to do so.

Why tax payers money should be given as cash awards?
by VASUDEVAN V on Apr 04, 2011 10:13 AM  | Hide replies

I can understand BCCI giving the players cash awards. Even Coporate Houses giving cash awards is OK. But, why should different Sate governments announce cash awards, using tax payers money? Take Delhi government for example. The CM has declared 2 crores for Dhoni and 1 crore each for the three Delhi players. That is a total of Rs.5 crores. The poor in Delhi do not have drinking water and even basic amenities and the tax payers money is given away by the Delhi Government to pamper the over hyped, over rated and over paid cricketers. When Vishy Anand won his first World Championship, he was merely congratulated by the then Sports Minister. When queried by a journalist why no cash awards are given to Vishy Anand, the sports minister informed that Vishy Anand is rich enough and does not need cash awards. Does it mean our cricketers belong to below the poverty line (BPL) families? It is a shame that tax payers money is wasted like this on rich, over-paid, over-hyped and over-rated cricketers for winning a six nation cup!

irony of Indian sports
by gaurang patel on Apr 04, 2011 10:05 AM

Indians won cricket world cup. No doubt gr8 event & our politicians have come to take advantage giving all kind of money, land, free rail passes to cricketers. Its good but what about those players who have won championship in other games like chess, billiards, hockey, teniss, badminton & other sports? why no such things given to them? why so much of partiality to sports people? why this double standards? why only cricket? why not others? thats it.

Team North India
by Abe Oye (View MyPage) on Apr 04, 2011 10:02 AM | Hide replies

It is a fact that when North Indians started taking interest in cricket, India started winning in cricket. No wonder both the world cups were won by India under the captaincy of Northies like Kapil and Dhoni. Rest of the Indians, lack the naked aggression, and are weak in mind. They don't deserve to lead, and when they lead, defeats embrace us. Case in point, when Sachin was the captain.

abe oye,

this was a team win, not one person single-handedly winning the string of matches leading to the final.

and for your information, East Indians are calling Dhoni one of thier own.. whats your answer to that ?
