Gambhir-Kohli partnership pulled India to victory
by howudoudo on Apr 03, 2011 07:14 AM

Dhoni and Yuvraj finished the job.

Overall, a great team effort.

Well done, Team India. Hope you dominate world cricket for atleast a few years now.

I have seen so many idiots like you on rediff. Why are you all against Sachin? Most of you are pessimists who want to gain publicity by writing something against a person who has performed for the country. The most common thing people say is that he is playing for his own individual scores. Don’t these scores add up to the team total? On a pitch which was deteriorating against Pakistan he was the highest scorer at 85 when the second highest score was 53 from both the teams(Don’t talk about 4 lives, even Bradman has 99.96% with lot of lives) I am not saying we won because of Sachin. Cricket is played by 11 people. It is a team sport. Even Kapil dev's 175 would not be possible without Kirmani's 24 N.O. at the other end. It is not only the players but the Coach, Trainer, Physiotherapist and other support staff who are also responsible for the victory (Sachin was humble enough to thank them). Don’t write off Sachin's contribution because you want to gain cheap publicity. Let us be true Indians and applaud him for his efforts for over 21 years to the country. When all cricketing greats hail him as the greatest what credibility (except writing on rediff because it is free and anyone who has studied 2nd class can write) do you have to write against him. Mend your ways or somebody will hit you in life for this pessimism, from which you can’t recover nor anybody from your family can save you. Jai Hind.

I don't think Sachin needs to retire. He has made a brilliant comeback albeit not the world cup final maybe. But he still has the knock and can do well. Sehwag, we need him. People keep forgetting, these 2 have the power to accelerate quick runs in the initial overs like no one else. They might be unsuccessful at times, but they have the might and experience to face any opening bowler in the world. So both of them should stay. The lower order and bowling needs to be improved tremendously.

all great people like richards, border, gavaskar, steve waugh....(there is big list) retired when they also had atleast 2-3 yrs more and were doing well.

as a sportsman, give way to youngsters. there are lot of deserving people who ware waiting for their chance

only point is .. retirement is either a personal decision or forced by employer. We are not the ones to suggest.

TEAM means together everyone wins. thats reason why india won this cup. if many indian understand the value of being team member and not keep dreaming of being hero or boss all the time. india will change. all projects all game the TEAM feelings, i m part of the group and i will do my part. that will make our home ie india beautiful place to live.

west understand the value of being responsible team member, thats why they grew so much. in india we still live in hero worship and keep dreaming. its time to realise the power of being honest team player. just doing your part honestly. and not trying to be boss

Indian Cricket team has proved that they can win a world cup final without the contributions of Tendulkar and Shehwag.
Both of them should retire and pave way for the youngsters so that team can be built up for the next world cup.

Under 19 Award
T20 Award
Word Cup Award
He has done thrice what Sachin for all his greatness could not even do once.
And yet, Dhoni gets the rewards

gambhir deserved the man of the match. In any case, Dhoni played well although most of his runs came in the end when india was in good shape.

dhoni only plays well against sri lanka lol

We are destructive world champians

India did not get this title easily. It went through severe battle to win the World Cup. Surprisingly India smashed all previous world champions on a row to get back the prestigious cup of honor.
Smashed West Indies (75, 79 World Champions) during last league match
Knocked out defending champions Australia (87, 99, 2003, 2007 World Champions) on quarter finals
Scrapped arch rivals Pakistan (92 world Champions) on an octane semi final clash
Regained the cup by defeating the pre tournament favorites Sri Lanka (96 World Champions)
I am very happy that Sachin got the WC feather in his 22 year old cap.
Heart Congratulations Team India and thanks a lot for winning the world cup for India.

World cup
by Ajay on Apr 03, 2011 04:14 AM

This World cup played a great role in my life and I guess other Indians. We will remember and cherish for several years to come that India has at last won the world cup (after 28 years). I started following cricket from 1987 - Benson & Hedges cup (RS MOM). But Indian team could not be trusted to consistently win for a long time since. They showed great promise in the last couple of years. Our batting line up started becoming the strongest.
The WC brought great cricketing nations together. India-Pak match for example had great memories not just who won/loss, but it brought two nations slightly closer. Dhoni, having not performed for a long time came back very strongly. He played a captain's knock. Indian batsman proved today that Sachin and Sehwag do not complete the list of batsmen in the team. Yuvraj the man of the tournament. He has learnt an unique art to be consistent both with bat and ball. Sachin - Sir, India is proud to have you and your name will remain till India and cricket remain. As Virat Kohli commented - 'Sachin has been lifting India's burden for the last 21 years, it is time that we lift him'. I loved Sangakkara's comments after the game - gracious, great gentleman. Tough luck M.Jayawardane, but you have done a great job - scoring much needed century for your team in the final - the feet that Indian batsmen came close, but couldn't. Let us not forget the key role played by Gambhir and Virat did when we lost 2 wickets.
