People are overly critical.
by taklu on Apr 02, 2011 01:16 PM  | Hide replies

Not sure why people are overly critical here. This article only reflects the author's views, you don't have to agree with everything he says. I personally do not agree with author's hyperbole on sachin.

But he does make a good point which many Indians may not know that cricket world cup can be equated to super bowl. So basically when we talk to our usa friends, we may explain to them, that well cricket wc is like your super bowl.

Take the positives out of the article, not the negatives. Relax people

Why argue about Babe Ruth!
by VASUDEVAN V on Apr 02, 2011 12:48 PM  | Hide replies

Lot of comments are written Babe Ruth! The fact is, in India hardly anyone knows about our own multiple world champion Vishy Anand! He has been in his sport as long as Sachin in Cricket, is a multiple world champion and has achieved everything that a Chess Champion could aspire for! How many news channels have recommended for Bharat Rathna to be given to Vishy Anand! The fact is, Cricket is a over-hyped game in the country and the craze around the cricketers is created by the media. They could have created the same craze for Vishy Anand, the true and real world champion India has. Awards like Bharat Rathna are given for achievements in a given field and not for popularity. The achievements of Vishy Anand deserve to be crowned with a Bharat Rathna before any other sportsperson in India. If popularity is the criteria for Bharat Rathna, then Rakhi Sawant should get it in India!

This clearly shows that u r a tamilian. I agree Vishy is the great sport person, but, no one else deserves the Bharat Ratna more than Sachin if it has to be given for the sports person. He did achieved all the glories in the cricket field also he has done it when the expectaions were so high. And even popularity should be one of the criteria not necessarily the only criteria for giving the Bharat Ratna to a sport person. To make it more clear because of the player like Sachin Cricket become so popular in India. But, even with the so many achievements from other sportpersons like...Pilley, Bhutia, Paes, Bhupathi,Sania, Vishy, Prakash Padukone, Gopichand, Geet Sethi, Pankaj Advani, many from Athletics they could not take any sports to anywhere near cricket in terms of popularity in India.

I am a Tamilian and your name proves you are a `Sachin' fan. Cricket was popular in India even before Sachin came. And the brand Sachin is now created by the media. The same media is capable of creating the Anand Brand, if they wish. You have rightly named so many other sportspersons who have achieved glory for India in so many other sporting fields. But the only multiple world champion we have is Vishy Anand. Popularity can never be a criteria for an award like Bharat Rathna. It has to be achievements only. If it is popularity, then give it to Rakhi Sawant like I said. She is more popular than even Sachin!

Does Cricket help you to earn livelyhood or it is adding more inflation in your life.
Ad budget of companies are pulled out of your pocket only. Think on this line and you will understand the real motive of promoting Cricket.

Please Keep Sports...or atleast Sachin Away....
by Ravi Om on Apr 02, 2011 11:13 AM

He was born to play cricket and he will till he desires to....why waste our thoughts and a gentleman's talent on what we know as POLITICS. Please, please keep sports or at least Sachin away from these and let him remain what he is. He is just a living legend but purely dipped in humbleness and generosity which perhaps no individual of his stature would possess.
