Don't forget that Ricky Ponting has had the additional burden of captaincy for years something which Sachin has always shunned as he is only interested in making records for himself. Sachin must be eyeing his next record of 50 Test centuries so more glory only for himself once again!

Sachin was a horribly defensive , sometimes negative captain Nowhere near his perfect batting

Well pointed out. No one is claiming that Sachin is the best captain ever.... On that note, with Punter's recent run the old maxim that "a Captain is only as good as his team" is coming to fore. Bear that in mind when talking about Sachin's captaincy...
Losing at Mohali was utter lack of killer instinct - perhaps worse than what Sachin displayed during his short stint at the helm...

pseudo:
please bear in mind the old maxim that ''captain is only as good as his team''
so according to you sachin is not good captain? so who are good according to you? azhar and ganguly??!!
please understand that sachin had the same team that the losers azhar and ganguly had. look what great things sachin did with azhar's indian cricket team. also look what that mediocre captain ganguly did to sachin's indian team.
pseudo before critiising sachin please bear in mind that a good captain can take a good team to a higher level and a bad captain can take a good team and make it look bad.
azhar, sachin and ganguly captain the indian team one after the other and their captaincy records show clearly that where the talentless azhar and ganguly stood against a winner like sachin.

Ricky has won one test in India as a player which is enough.. Its about winning that matters.. And Pointing has won a test in England too.. Compare that with Sachin.. Was he is any of the world cup team call in 20/20 or 50/50.. NO... Secondly.. India has never won test series in Australia and S.Africa.. They barely won in England only after 5 of their top players got injured..
Re: Re: ricky 5 losses
by Siva Kumar on Oct 19, 2010 10:26 AM
Cricket is a team sport, both Sachin and Ponting are a part of the playing eleven which has to deliver equally good to reach team goals. It is like asking a Federer or someone to be a part of a Davis Cup and ask them to win for their country.

no please he has lost 5 won 0 dont put him in air. gilchrist won a test in INDIA IN NAGPUR WHICH ONLY HAPPENED WHEN WE GAVE AUSSIES A GREEN TOP. PETTY POLITICS BETWEEN DALMIYA AND SHASHANK MANOHAR
Re: Re: Re: ricky 5 losses
by BRUNO MONTEIRO on Oct 19, 2010 11:09 AM
What is Green Top.. So you mean to say that Sachin, Dravid, Laksman, Ganguly and other batsman cannot play on green top.. Then why were they selected to play in that test.. Patetic

This is same what was happening ti Sachin till few years back. Now Ricky knows that he doesnot have a team which can win from any situations. Now even if he scores runw, there s no guarente that his team will win...after the retirements of all the big players from the team, he is no more a match winner----to justify my cmments, you can check his last three years records...he has hardly performed when his team needed the most. Now ricky will know what it is to carry the burden of a whole team whic sachin successfully managed for a decade. Now its the real test for Ricky...All Sachin bashers who said that Ricky is better than Sachin, what you wnat to say now??? Atleast now realise what Sachin has done for India!!!
Re: Ricky VS Sachin
by amitabh chatterjee on Oct 19, 2010 10:40 AM
Though I m not a Sachin basher, please do not compare the load of a leader what Ponting is carrying. A leader not only bats, bowls & field but also has the ability to extract the best from his team. Sachin, with all respect is the finest batsman in cricket, but not a leader. In a team game the leader always loose with the lose of matches but never given the 100% credit on wins. For records Sachin has to forego captaincy to be a better batsman...

You must admit that a captain needs a well responding team to win matches besides leading the way himself. When Sachin was the captain of the Indian Test Squad, India seriously lacked quality batsman who could face high order fast bowling. Adding to that India's slimmest chances of winning were destroyed by reckless Azharuddin who kept running out either himself or others, because he was either gambling or angry with the administration. So if we didn't win under sachin it was not his fault entirely. Today Indian Team has become a bunch of selfish and careless cricketers (barring the older generation) and there is no point in being a leader of such a team. Sachin was never dropped out of capataincy. He opted out. In India, with so much money coming at a very young age, we do not have the system which makes the players think that the GAME is much bigger than the individual. Till this is corrected there is no point in blaming Sachin for not being part of a world cup winning squad. You need a great team that performs collectively. Period. Kapil had it to win the 83 worldcup. The following captains didn't. That is the fact. Also it is a fact that Sachin has grown in stature in such a bloody mess, the country longs for his continued success to keep India's flag fly high. It is like we scolding our own parents even theough we know that they are doing their best always. Poor Sachin.

then the biggest winner (counting of facts) is no other than Punter.....his winning percentage is Untouchable...3 world cups, 2 as captain, and many many more major trophies just shows how successful a cricketer and a leader he is...i luv my country and i love my cricketers and i luv their success but dont we all want a world cup...and to whoever wrote this article, have you ever written on Ricky's success (what stats show)
And it is also very sad to see people here fighing over sachin and others...Sachin is a great player, Australia is the best team. And these are two different lines
the above said stuff is all individual stuff which he doesnt care...3 world cups wat else he need as a captain..........sachin and punter cant be compared...punter is one of the best captain ...how can v indians forget the world cup final where he and martyn smashed every ball....v talk about junks test and bad pitches made in india to win the matches...england is playing really good these days....they have a good team of batting and bowling ...they r playing as a team...even india plays as a team so v were able to win matches...other than 2 sharjah matches sachin never made anything grt against aus. People can bark at my stuff...if sachin and punter is compared .....punter makes far ahead above the selfish sachin.........pls dnt compare this selfish to bradamna.......

Ponting won the world cup with the help of those retirred greats. After McGrath and Warne could win from any situation. Ponting was playing freely with so many greats around. Sachin enjoys the same luxury these days. You can see the results. He won Tri series, Compaq Cup, NZ series, WI series, the chennai test. See his fourth innings record in the past 2 yrs when he started to recieve support from the 10 around him.
Re: haha
by suryanarayan bhaskar on Oct 19, 2010 10:07 AM
Agreed Ponting is easily more successful than any other player in the World by a long long ways as it is alll about winning. But no need to abuse Sachin. It is a team game and Sachin has done what he could. Why only blame Sachin when there are 10 other players in the team.
Re: Re: haha
by Harsha Bhogle on Oct 19, 2010 10:10 AM
Mr. Surya, 10 other players dont have the same fame as Sachin. So if you enjoy more fame, be prepared to face more criticism also. That is life!
Re: Re: haha
by navdeep johar on Oct 19, 2010 10:14 AM
DUDE I WILL GO 1 STEP BETTER, AND WHY FORGET OTHER 10 PLAYERS ALSO WE WON AGAINST AUSSIES REALLY BCOZ OF OUR BOWLERS, BATTING IS ALWAYS STRONG FOR US, IT WAS TRIO OF ZAHEER, BHAJJI AND OJHA WHICH WON IT FOR US, MOHALI OUR BATTERS STRUGGLED TO GET EVEN 200.
Re: Re: Re: haha
by suryanarayan bhaskar on Oct 19, 2010 10:17 AM
Exactly it is a team game and the better team wins.No need to give credit or overly blame 2 player for a victory or defeat.Indians have the abit of making gods or demons of players without thinking rationally. Sachin is just one cog in the wheel.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: haha
by suryanarayan bhaskar on Oct 19, 2010 10:33 AM
Absolutely Sachin scored a 214 but Vijay also scored a crucial Hunred, Ojha also took wickets along Bhajji & Zaheer.Pujra scored 72 so it was a team effort. That is why I am not a big fan of the man of the match award. It was started only 20-25 years back.

Prasad machi...super!!! 100% true that Pointing is a superb captain, wonderful palyer and more importantly a real match winner...I wish INDIA win this 2011 world cup else selfish Sachin will not retire even in 2015

ya punter is selfish not for himself for his country ...thats the diff....between the grt and so called demi selfish god
He has won 3 World cups as player, 2 WCs as captain. He is the player with higest no victories as player in Tests and ODIs, Highest no of victories as captain in tests and ODIs. 2 Champions trophy victories.2 highest run getter & century maker in Tests , 5-0 Ashes victory as Captain in OZ, 4/5 Ashes victories as a player. U can always find something missing but he is by far the most successful player as it is all about winning.

SO THEN PLEASE APPLY THIS CRITERIA FOR OUR PLAYERS TOO SEHWAG WINS SO MANY MATCHES FOR US, HE IS A GENIUS I THINK HE IS AS GREAT AS RICKY IF NOT BETTER.
Re: Re: 3 World Cups , Highest no of Vitories as player &
by suryanarayan bhaskar on Oct 19, 2010 10:11 AM
Absolutely. Agreed Sehwag is also an all time great. What I was saying was about regrets. It is not that Ricky ponting has single handedly won matches. he was lucky to be a part of a champion team. I am only saying the regrets are being overdone.
the determination & never say die attitude of an person is marvelous, from all ends you are criticised but your focus - even though you have rubbed sachin at times- quoting sachins eger for runs is inspiring is again showing your presence of mind- Mr. captain - i salute for the agression - all the best!
Re: captain
by navdeep johar on Oct 19, 2010 10:00 AM
SUCESSFUL BUT NOT IN INDIA, WE HAVE GOT BETTER OF HIM AND THATS BEEN FAIR ASSESSMENT, ONLY TIME HE WAS BETTER WAS IN THIS TOUR GETTING 3 SCORES OF 70S, OTHERWISE BHAJJI HAS DISMISSED HIM N NO., OF TIMES THAT PROVERS IF PONTING IS ALL TIME GREAT SO IS HARBJHAJAN WHICH VERY FEW PEOPLE RAELISE THIS. HE IS CLOSE TO 400 TEST WICKETS ONLY KAPIL AND KUMBLE HAVE DONE THIS IN OUR HISTORY SO FAR.
Re: Re: captain
by bookiee on Oct 19, 2010 10:14 AM
we dont compare ponting to harbajan - among Indian bowlers itself bhaji have never been rated as the best - as we do not have a better bowler Bhaji stays - other wise is he effective - is he a match winner- is he a lethal wepon- has he ever breaken any partnerships, when the batsman is set- i dont remeber
Re: Re: Re: captain
by navdeep johar on Oct 19, 2010 10:42 AM
HE HAS WON 30 TEST MATCHES FOR INDIA IS THAT NOT ENOUGH ONLY KUMBLE HAS WON MORE GAMES THAN HIM. 25 FIVE WKT HAULS NOT ENOGH STILL! C, MON MY FRIEND
