Is rediff systematically publicizing this book?
by abbey K on Nov 11, 2010 06:40 AM

Every day I see some thing from the book sensationalized on rediff. Either someone from rediff is reading a chapter every night or rediff is the media partner for the book

Selflessness

Sehwag is great no doubt abt it. I am proud that he is an Indian.
For ppl who compare sehwag and sachin,
tell me how hitting 6 on 94 will help the team?
is that not for personal satisfaction.

In cricket the team that scores more runs will win not the team that made faster. So sachin is playing Ideal cricket.
Instead, if cricket is abt strike rates then sachin would have played differently.

Sehwag is a luxury India can afford due to strong middle order, period. When the middle order failed 2 yrs ago, sehwag was dropped.
For the matter of fact, any player plays for himself. A coach looks for personal achievement and not abt his home country.Similarly match referess/umpires who are once players work for themselves.
Y cant an umpire cheat for his home team? Dont talk abt honesty and integrity, the same person as a player would have nicked and not walked.
How come Kirsten played 10 yrs for SA pride and now he wishes India win against SA.Wasim wants to be India's bowling coach. Sandeep patil coached Zim. He would have wished India to loose when he was coach.

Bottomline, playing for team is bullshi*t. Its all the so called 'Professionalism'.

yaaron, why to compare sachin and sehwag's contribution to indian cricket. Are not both great and are not both doing a great service to mother india? Also, don't we want both of them? Or do we want 11 sehwag's playing or 11 sachin's playing for the team?? I love both of them. And the way cricket world is scared of them makes me even happier. :)

Ok now tell me how a batsman on 96 or 97 helps the team in taking 20 balls to score just 3 to 4 runs for the century !

Aby chantu, to win a test match you need to put pressure by scoring fact. If you score 600 in 3 days you can draw a match not win!!! Thats why we are winning more matches because Sehwag "jat ka chora" is putting pressure on opposition

I will tell you how.Sachin was out on 90's 8 times in an year.So he decided to be careful on 90's.
And how that helps the team? Cause he more often than not makes the centuries big...like 130's,140's in both tests and odi's. Those extra runs will definitely help the team.Well dont the experts say, its easy for a settled batsman than for a new batsman? If you see Sachins over strike rate of all his big centuries, they are on par with any other innings. He never wastes balls overall.

SEHWAG WILL ALWAYS BE BIGEGER MATCH WINNER THAN SACHIN. SACHIN WENT AFTER RECORDS STILL SOMETIMES LEFT THE TEAM BEHIND. SEHWAG PLAYED ONLY FOR TEAM BUT STILL MADE ALL THE RECORDS

Sewhag vs Sachin
by super hero on Nov 11, 2010 01:17 AM  | Hide replies

Sehwag was kicked out of the team for an year..why?
I dont think he changed his style of play before or after comeback..

The only difference is the team needs changed. When the middle order performed well( thats is when we make sure we dont loose test matches), we can afford sehwag and win some matches.
If the middle order fails, sehwag was the first person to be dropped.
For a team to win, Sachin and Sehwag are equally needed.Period.
Chennais Test is the perfect example.
Sehwag made a quick fire 80, that made win possible and the sachin with the middle order made the winning happen.

Consider in that match:
1)Sehwag fails and middle order performs: India would have drawn the match with 20% chance of winning.
2)Sehwag makes 80 but middle fails:
India would have lost the match.

That is why Sachin is more important to team than Sehwag

how can u even try to ignore the importance of Sehwag's contribution in india's test match wins.. By scoring fast, and big centuries (he doesnt just get out immediately after scoring century.. he most often converts them into 150 plus scores), he gives enough time for a result

Yes he will give enough time for a result and the middle order should complete the proceedings.
Also I am not talking about the matches he scores, what about the other matches when he get out in the first over, without any feet movement trying to cut good length deliveries, even if India is 1 or 2 wickets down?
Agreed because of the same attitude he is able to score those big hundreds.I am just saying Sachins consistent performance is better than Sehwags blisters..No complaints as both are Indians..we are lucky

Viru has changed test cricket for the better. It takes a unique once-in-a-generation talent to make the quite difficult skill of opening batting appear that simple.

He is modern day's King ir Vivian Richards, the incomparable genius. Like Sir Viv, he can destroy bowling attacks to shreds and make them look incompetent.

However, he lacks the aura and intimidating presence of Sir Viv, who never wore a helmet playing fast bowlers in an era which can be described as the best in history for fast bowlers (they were so many then, plenty)

HONESTLY, VIRU IS BETTER THAN RICHARDS & SACHIN!
by Kabeer on Nov 10, 2010 04:28 PM  | Hide replies

Honestly, Viru is better than Richards and Sachin.

One of the reasons, or perhaps the sole reason, Viru is not counted ahead of Richards and Sachin (or at times even on par by some) is that Viru is his earlier way of scoring which was not as productive and as frequent as the latter half is.

Besides, pundits like artistic surgeon like slicing the bowler to death like Richards did than than bludgeoning with a blunt weapon like Viru.

Moreover, Indians and pundits elsewhere love to place Sachin above all.

Even the most reputed names like Gavaskars, Imran Khans, Chappels dont like to appear as those who dont know the ultimate analysis and knowledge about cricket by placing Viru ahead of Sachin; so they always place Sachin ahead!

Ask any bowler and most importantly Captains and Coaches in the world; they all say it is Viru they fear the most. Sachin destroys only bowlers reputations; but Viru destroys all 3-bowlers, Captains and Coaches by creating winning situations from no where and all the planning goes haywire. Similar thing happened in Chennai in the test against England a few years ago. VIrus quick 80 on fourth day tea session on a fourth innings tilted the tables against England in half an hour and India went on to win the match and series.

One blogger against my post has said that Viru has scored 21 out of his 22 tons in his firt innings and he is a flop in the second.

I innings more tougher than 2nd for opening bat. Green pitch, fresh fast bowler

The way sehwag played to Shoaib Akhtar, Brett Lee and Ajantha mendis in the first series he faced them is an indication of his ability to pick any bowler and dominate.
