HONESTLY, VIRU IS BETTER THAN RICHARDS & SACHIN
by Kabeer on Nov 10, 2010 02:45 PM  | Hide replies

Honestly, Viru is better than Richards and Sachin.

One of the reasons, or perhaps the sole reason, Viru is not counted ahead of Richards and Sachin (or at times even on par by some) is that Viru is his earlier way of scoring which was not as productive and as frequent as the latter half is.

Besides, pundits like artistic surgeon like slicing the bowler to death like Richards did than than bludgeoning with a blunt weapon like Viru.

Moreover, Indians and pundits elsewhere love to place Sachin above all.

Even the most reputed names like Gavaskars, Imran Khans, Chappels dont like to appear as those who dont know the ultimate analysis and knowledge about cricket by placing Viru ahead of Sachin; so they always place Sachin ahead!

Ask any bowler and most importantly Captains and Coaches in the world; they all say it is Viru they fear the most. Sachin destroys only bowlers reputations; but Viru destroys all 3-bowlers, Captains and Coaches by creating winning situations from no where and all the planning goes haywire. Similar thing happened in Chennai in the test against England a few years ago. VIrus quick 80 on fourth day tea session on a fourth innings tilted the tables against England in half an hour and India went on to win the match and series.

mr. kabeer, before crictizing great sachin and sir viv richards u should look up at the record of viru in 2nd innings of test match. out of 22 centuries he scored 21 came in his first innings. and his second innings average is just 25. so he cant bat under pressure and cant win matches for india in playing 2nd innings. look at the record of laxman, sachin, richards, they are far better in 2nd innings than sehwag... so respect those greats.

Buddy, i agree that laxman is a grt and is a match winner and his records prove themselves. But sachin fails under pressure. His last innings against the kiwis is just an example. In am not suggesting that sehwag is greater than sachin, but that under pressure, sachin is no different.

Agree with Kabeer on the Sachin part. Viru is better. When it comes to Richards, it is impossible to say. Richards was such a dominant player and bowlers used to fear him just as they fear Sehwag.

guys before saying anything bout sachin jst ask urself, wat else a player can do to prove himself???sehwag is great no doubt bt don frget if sachin was not there then there wud b no sehwag or dhoni as well for they joined cricket bcoz of sachin.as far as pressure is concern, he is also a human being, don expect frm him to score in both the innings.so wat if he has not scored a tripple centurey, see his consistancy.bt certainly sehwag is more fearsome than richards.

Navdeep, i appreciate your points of view and agree to it. Sachin ia a grt, no doubt, but we also have sehwag. Both these grts are jewels of india who need to be applauded. But I also find guys who do not like anyone to appreciate anybody other than sachin and try to find imaginary faults with sehwag just to show that sachin is grt. Some one here talks of sehwag's ability to score only on indian pitches which is totally untrue when he has scored centuries all over the world and stats prove otherwise. This is what is irritating and then we have people taking sides and abusing each other when sachin and sehwag have the mutual admiration and respect for each other. It is time we respect and admire both sehwag and sachin.

First of all, these guys who are commenting here must be in their 20's. They may not have a clue about how Indian team used to perform in Australia or elsewhere. There were hardly any consistency. If Sachin was out, the entire team would crumble. Please check the records between 1991 and 1995 to see. To add to that, the age factor. Any guy with so much adulation and such a yound age will go bonkers. This guy has remained steady, stable and down to earth (from a cricketing viewpoint) for the last 20 years. Grow up buddies. You guys have no clue what it is to be level headed

Sehwag was kicked out of the team for an year..why?
I dont think he changed his style of play before or after comeback..

The only difference is the team needs changed. When the middle order performed well( thats is when we make sure we dont loose test matches), we can afford sehwag and win some matches.
If the middle order fails, sehwag was the first person to be dropped.
For a team to win, Sachin and Sehwag are equally needed.Period.
Chennais Test is the perfect example.
Sehwag made a quick fire 80, that made win possible and the sachin with the middle order made the winning happen.

Consider in that match:
1)Sehwag fails and middle order performs: India would have drawn the match with 20% chance of winning.
2)Sehwag makes 80 but middle fails:
India would have lost the match.

That is why Sachin is more important to team than Sehwag
