One thing Ponting has forgotten is that Sachin is God in India. He is a mere mortal...Sachin can play however long he wants. He will never be dropped. For Ponting, if he loses the ashes he loses the capitancy and his place very soon.
Even otherwise Australian selectors wont let a 36 year old continue inspite of repeated failures. They are seeing the effects of not having backups for many great players and they wont repeat it with Ponting.
Ppl just think. How much credit will u attribute for a ODI macth against Bangaladesh, where Sachin makes 100 in first innings and India make 250-270 and India win comfortably? I would guess not much credit to it. Flash-back to 2007 world cup match, Ind vs Ban , India lost that resulted in ousting out of the world cup. India made around 190 and Ban chased it in about 49 overs. If Sachin made a century in that match, it would like the case I mentioned above. Bottomline, every century he made counts irrespective of oppenent, ground and first/second innings. You will know the value of the innings only if it never exists. But players,selectors/commentators know that value.Thats why they redgard him as the greatest player. Clueless ppl can keep barking that he cant win matches.

The same happened in Bradman Era as well. We had players like Hammond and Hutton who scored equally well as Bradman. But Bradman stood out, while we hardly remember Hammond and Hutton. Same will happen.. Sachin will be remembered.. Ponting is one among plenty

you have made a very good point. i think its right except australia were winning that time when those seniors were playing. Now is the time to do a major overhaul and remove bad blood and such players who go to the bar every evening drink heavily and curse IPL and hit on other player's girlfriends

Who on the current bench is playing atleast as good as Sachin is now? Who is missing a chance because Sachin is in the team?
Answer these 2 questions and you will know (if you have a brain) why Sachin should not retire now.

How many of the above named players started playing test cricket at 16 years of age like Tendulkar?

In fact, usha, it only makes sense why Sachin shud continue. A guy who started playing when he was 16 and still scoring prolifically is an asset to any team by any standards.

So ? It is Sachin's credit that he made it at the highest level just at the age of 17 (not 16).

no because of Aadimanav's india can not progress
There is nothing wrong in getting inspirations from anyone, but Ponting must know that he cannot continue to follow Sachin. For one thing, Ponting faces a real danger of being dropped from the Aussie side, if he underperforms for a certain period, whereas Sachin faces no such danger. Secondly, Ponting has to retire sooner or later, whereas Sachin is never going to retire!
