Dravid, the greatest Indian batsman of this decade
by Vignesh A P on Nov 04, 2010 02:56 PM

He has scored runs at all difficult conditions and against all opposition and when the team demanded. He is the best Indian batsman of this decade (2000-2010).....

greatest opener ever
by krishna v on Nov 04, 2010 02:51 PM  | Hide replies

india has had good openers like gavaskar, srikanth. but no one matches to sehwag, the kind of consistency he shows is highly magnanimous. gavaskar too in his time had scored lot of hundreds, but they were defensive ones which rarely won us anything, it were mere personal scores.it didnt contribute to indian victories expect for the 71 and 75 series win in wi.most of them were dull draws.compare that with sehwag plays sheer domination, destruction, and demolishtion of opposition, the opposition just cannot think of getting up from this position.truly india's greatest test opener ever.

not fair . to say their hundreds didnt contribute to the win ! those times were different . bowlers were different . i think Gavaskar played one of the most fiercest bowlers of all times frm west indies ! that too without a proper cricketing gear . without a helmet !

bats were substandard compared to today's modern wilows !! which r light weight and has an amazing stroke ! Our pitches nowadays suit batsmen more than bowlers . so theres no comparison between the yesteryears and now !!

Sehwag is gud but certainly not the best !!

Gavaskar is the first Positive Porce from Indian cricket who challenged the mighty Windies, Audssies , English , and conquered - Singlehandedly . He was stupendous , unstoppable , a real little master, with no technology for support . He changed the face of Indian cricket , from 1971 , and 70 to 80 % of all our achievements and wins are post 1971. A class apart , Gavaskar had no support from any player , none of his Calibre - An all time GREAT. Next to him is Vishy as these both built up the Indian cricket from a low level and are primarily responsible for India becoming a top Test playing nation. Even Amarnath , Vengsarkar , Sachin , Sehwag , Laxman , Dravid , Ganguly , Azhar -- ALL PERFORMED WHEN INDIAN CRICKET WAS ON A MUCH BETTER WICKET AND POSITION - THANKS TO GAVASKAR.

I would call him the best ever impact player even higher than sachin but not the best opener yet.

Sehwag is a great player and definitely one the best openers India had, but i think Gavaskar still rates higher as an opener considering the qwality of the opposition he played against. Sehwag in today's inning has been letoff atleast 5 times and a strong oppostion would not have let off these chances. When you open with sehwag u also need to be prepared to loose him early for a rash shot. However the dominance which sehwag has when he is in flow is unparalled.

and this is the same team which lost to Bangladesh ..4-0
so this performance by sehwag n dravid doesnt hold merit according to me !!

Cricket is losing its sheen .where most of the cricketing nations playing below average standards including australia !
mayb south africa is a better competitor !!

prakash sharma, performance of sehwag and dravid against NZ who lost 4-0 to Bangladesh holds no merit according to you.

But if sachin makes 100 or 200 that will hold merit for you even though it would be against a side that lost to bangladesh 4-0, correct?

one rule and logic for sachin and other rule and logic for other players! GREAT!

Yeah I kind of forget who was the wise man who said that dravid's Strike rate will approach 50 from 17 by the time Dravid gets to his 100 .

Oh wait, that was me.

Hero No. One

Here is our hero No.1. Unlike Tendulkar, Sehwag plays not for records but marches on and torments opposition bowlers even in their own dens like he did in Multan against Pakistan.
