Dravid 16 from 83 balls
by Zandu on Nov 04, 2010 12:46 PM  | Hide replies

If IshantShanrma or a tailender plays it will be excellent innings to keep the innings alive.
But The Worlds one of the Top best Test batsman playing like this is unfortunate.

it is high time Dravid calls it a day. Much more promising players like Pujara and Murali vijay are sitting outside and Dravid is playing only on past reputation.

My point is - best available players sould be in the team. Not someone who was a good player once upon a time. When India have better players siting outside, what is the point of playing Dravid. he is definitely over the hill.It is because of players like
Dravid that test cricket is dying. He is just trying to survive not laying a foundation. All other batsman- Sachin, Laxman, Raina can and will score at a faster rate. When the pitch is so easy to bat, what makes Dravid prod and plod.

murali Vijay is an opener and err technically he should be replacing Gauti

Dravid is #3 and he is trying to do exactly what a #3 does ? LAY A FOUNDATION !

Sehwag was a middle order batsman . since there was no place in the Indian middle order he becam an opener and see what a success he is. An opener can easily bat at No.3. Dravid strike rate of 20 is pathetic. he can't even rotate strike. sure, he was a great player but today if better options are available, they should be given a chance. it is better to groom one or two promising player so that there is no sudden vacuum.

Sehwag was basically a pinch hitter and not a middle order batsman.

Same with Tendy in ODI's. he was Pinch hitter comming at the bottom of the innings and then he came as an opener.

Sehwag is basically playing the same game. His gameplan really hasn't changed and thankfully no one has asked him to change.

He plays as an opener , but he plays with the same style as he would if he came at #5,6 or 7.

There is no change of playstyle.

U do not know. Sehwag batted at No. 4 in Delhi Ranji team. Became opener as there was no place in the middle order( Dravid,Sachin,Laxman & ganguly occupied the middle order). he is not a pinch hitter. Pinch hitters do not score 22 centuries in test crickec. Same with Sachin. You have to technically sound which does not mean that you have to just graft. Both Sachin and Sehwag have proved this. Basically both these players are a a higher level compared to Dravid and results are there for everyone to see.

Who cares about Delhi Ranji team ?

In international cricket , sehwag came in the middle order in the SA test. Once he began to open the ODI's he was given the openers slot in tests as well.

All these events took place really quick after his test debut

True - he is quite invaluable for India, and the model #3. Kudos to Dhoni, Kirsten and the selectors for moulding a team - one in which players complement each other and each has a role. Wonder why so many on this forum want everyone to be a Sehwag. Any team with all Sehwags will simply fail miserably. Are people so dumb they cannot understand even that simple fact?

Quick question hotshot . what was the team's score in the test debut of sehwag ? How fast were the runs scored and what was the outcome ?

being no 3 having strike rate of 20-25 is not an excuselook at ponting at no 3 his strike rate always stays over 60.. so make it atleast 50 dravid

Re: Re: Re: Dravid Pls retire

yes 50 strike rate should be something Dravid should aim at. He is slow , because he hasn't been among the runs.
Why are you comparing #3's of other countries with Dravid ?
Am sure there are other #3's who score in the 50 strike rate range.

It doesn't really matter to be honest. Yes 20 Strike rate is not good , but considering that he is in a lean period , short of confidence , he has to be given that time to settle in.
If he scores , say a 100, I would say his strike rate would be in the late 40's

atleast 320-325 runs india should make in a day, would have been 350 had dravid not slowed down that much and maintain 40-45 strike rate but only 18.. intentionally playing that slowly pathetic more than pathetic
