Jadeja apologises for St Lucia pub incident
by Senthil on May 26, 2010 07:04 PM  | Hide replies

Indian allrounder Ravindra Jadeja has apologised to the BCCI for his involvement in the incident at a St Lucia pub shortly after India's exit from the ICC World Twenty20, but insisted that he along with six other Indian players did not instigate any trouble or retaliate against the Indian fans who abused them at the pub.

In a letter addressed to the BCCI secretary N Srinivasan, a copy of which is with Cricinfo, Jadeja said the cricketers were taunted by the fans, who refused to back down even after a request from the players. He said the players were not involved in a 'brawl', as it was believed to be earlier, but nevertheless was apologetic that the incident even took place. After the incident was made public, the BCCI responded by issuing show-cause notices to seven of the eight players in the pub.

"I regret that the board has sent me a notice for the incident in the West Indies, and please accept my apology," Jadeja wrote. "I had gone to the restaurant (pub) along with other Indian team members. Some other guests, which I presume were Indian origins of the USA, also came to the restaurant and on seeing us they started abusing us, this may be because they were unhappy with our poor performance. We requested them not to abuse us but they did not stop inspite of our repeated request. No way was I involved in any ugly brawl and I went to the pub only to have dinner with my team-mates."

Jadeja had a poor tournament, where he failed in all departments.

The other players issued notices were Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Rohit Sharma, Piyush Chawla, and M Vijay. The BCCI bosses, including its president Shashank Manohar, were said to be highly critical of the incident after hearing the report of team manager Ranjib Biswal in person. However, Biswal denied reports of a brawl, and said it was just a creation of the media.

Srinivasan, when contacted, did not want to discuss the matter and refused to comment.

Because, BCCI and Jadeja are fully aware that these same nuts who are hurling abuses will also spend hundreds to subscribe to cricket channels that ultimately pay for them. People who have a life dont abuse the players but also don't spend fortune to follow them. You are their core audience, dude! If you need apology, they will offer one.

This is why BCCI is acting against the players and the players are tendering apologies. The country is filled with nutty morons who cannot tell difference between a player and a kitchen appliance and think they deserve guarantees all around.

Dont get near Zaheer and Yuvraj. With them being like "Bheema" these days, they will crush you to pulp. Actually, Dhoni will hit the hell outta you too.

They dont owe you an answer for their performances, and they dont need to play for you. They play for their bosses (BCCI) and they are answerable for them. Its your mistake if you want to watch their games and get disappointed at their poor performances.

by srinivasan krishnan on May 26, 2010 06:31 PM

The only reason i find to abuse players is that they might lost in some betting...may be they would have lost big amount...otherwise there is no reason abuse a player when seeing them sitting near you. Just think

WHERE IS THE REMORSE ?
by Am Admi on May 26, 2010 06:30 PM  | Hide replies

It's not just about partying. the question is where is the remorse? You are playing for the nation. You lost badly and immediately set off for partying as if it was the bloody match delaying the pleasure flow. These morons have no morality. It's just another day in office for them. If they attached any pride to playing for the nation, there conscience won't have allowed them to go partying.

They are not guilty unless proved that the matches were fixed. Just recall, did you won all the matches you played in your childhood, even in gully cricket. Its a game yaar ... nobody can win always ....

so when you have difficult times in your life, you'll not want to relax rather you will want to commit suicide? is that it? its everyone's right to do whatever they want. If they went to pub before the match, you question them. that too not for going to pub but for not taking rest before the match. don't poke your nose too much into other's life.

When you fail it's time to reflect. Relaxing ok. Celebration not. When you lead a public life you need to show some morality and behave responsibly. When you fail on national duty you got to have remorse.

Oh stop your nonsense. Even if they had the best of food available at their room doors, they have every friggin' right to venture out to restaurant and have their food. As someone said here, dont poke your nose into other's life. Maybe reduce the passion with which you watch Indian cricket. People get over passionate and in the process abuse cricketers as if they are slaves to us.

So you expect them to go and cry in their beds after losing a game ?. And that will breed players who can handle pressure ?. Failures are part of the game. Stop hyping them.

What do you think he should go on hunger strike?? They went to restaurant and were instigated by the senseless public.. If they have not played well BCCi will chuck them out. why should senseless people instigate them. They are professionals and if they are not doing their job their emplyers will take care of this

You mean to say that the 5 star hotel they were staying in had run out of food ! Don't miss the piont. It's about feeling the responsibility, feeling bad about one's poor performance. That was absent. What BCCI does/ will do leave it to them. What we are discussing here is how much the players value winning for the nation. Probably not much.

Cricket is a game... It is not a crime for players to fail. Abusing players is. But, BCCI has once again acted against the innocents and let the criminals go. May be the pub crowd had BCCI relatives?
