nothing like old school
by wizardo id on May 19, 2010 10:53 AM

nothing like old school. regular just works. new age fancy stuff need not mean success. these young stars think they have achieved everything by winning a match or two one off performances.

captain and so called team management are responsible for the degradation of pitches in india today....it's not like india dont have bounceir pitches but the so called" home advantage " factor is the main reason for this pathatic condition of pitches...even till today dhoni n company create a war like situation and the board influences the pitch curator to prepare an under prepared spinning pitch which is nothing more than a "mud track" to suite their batsman n spinners....yhe result is right infront of us.....a bunch of flat pitch bullies who cant even bat for 5 overs of quality pace attack on a good pitch....ask Mr. ganguly ..how he used to skip test matches whenever he saw a bit of gross on a pitch....he is the one who heavily influenced curator and prepared " mud tracks" and won matches...there is no secrate into this....

You are right. There has been only big talk on preparing fast pitches for as long as i can remember since my childhood days. Yet the same old thing remains, all talks and on paper. Bloody hell, they prepare pitches that are good for only sleeping. Wonder what makes them shy of preparing quick pitches? are they scared that they will also get hit on their fat bellies orAsses.

If they are serious, they can do it in a month, around 10 across the nation. In addition they should make pitch curators responsible for the quality of pitches, heavy fines and suspension in case of flat or bad pitches.

recently during IPL matches bangalore team played their matches on a good pace n bounce pitch at chinnaswamy stadium...that was a quality pitch...but none of the teams prepared and played their matches on such kind of pitches b'cause of fear factor and so called " home pitch advantage"...in india the captain and some of the players close to him influence the pitch curator and prepare " mud track" to suite their spinners n batsman..and they win home series...there is no secrate into this....bcci supports this...and players enjoy playing on these surfaces....when they face real pace n bounce....this is the result

Not many teams play well on bouncy tracks...
by Madurai SatheeshKumar on May 18, 2010 05:21 PM  | Hide replies

Guys
Its wrong to say that Pak is better equipped against aussies, with their performance in semis. They played the match in St.Lucia which is not being grouped with Barbados as a bouncy track. Even west indies who scored over india failed against Aussies.

Sri lanka failed against them again and so its like most of the teams dont have much options to deal with short pitched deliveries on such pitches.

True, our players have to practice in such tracks and so its needed that we have some pitches like that so that pace bowlers can unleash their firepower and batsman can get to know how to deal with such bowling.

Madurai, u are correct. Pakistan was plain lucky. They played only good match in the whole tournament and the semis was played on a placid pitch at Sr Louis. If they had played on the fast Barbados pitch, they would have copped up. They as well dont have the batsman with the flair or technique to cope with super fast bowling. Neither do they have for test matches as well.

They used to have good batters earlier 1970s - 1990s and early 2000s. Not now nor do they have good fast bowlers. Though they have two promising players - Umar Akmal and Mohd Aamer, theur talent cup board is not so good.

Friends,
Many say that GFavaskar / Sachin/Dravid/Laxman play short pitched deliveries well. But this is 20-20 format and people have to score quickly unlike test matches wherein you can skillfully leave the ball and wait for another playable delivery.

I dont think even someone like Dravid / Laxman could hit such short pitched bowling on bouncy tracks and score runs off them in this format of the game.

Is that correct?

Though out of context Gavaskar was loved in windies for his hooking skills, I still remember his shot off winston Davis where ball was clear 1 feet and haf or so above his head and he sent it over the ropes

oh well that explains it.. if you are so short that you know that any short ball is surely going to be above your head ...then you are not scared of getting hit and you can play anyway you want it or if you miss then it will be called "well left" ... the real player is to hook the ball when it is coming right at your body may be on the face or on the chest , you have to be really brave to hook that kind of ball. Obviusly its not a born skill ...if you have tackeled that stuff when you start playing cricket then you can do it ..otherwise ifs difficult to face it which is what happens to our so called Young Guns( or goons after the pub brawl)...

Dravid showed how to play 20-20 on a bouncier pitches at SA last year...it's footwork and ability to go right behind the delivery..reading line n length...these are the qualities to play aginst quality pace attack that dravid posses, needed in any format of the game...not many indian players have this technic, unfortunately

Look how English and Porkis thrashed the so called pace battery of aussies. In these days of helmets and protective gear if a batsman is not able to thrash the fast bowlers then he is not a good batsman.

1 on that. These so called cricket stars are no common street players. They are trained to play in international arena and cannot seek excuse on such flimsy grounds. they are paid in crores so that they perform and not to find excuses.

short ball bowled at fast pace
by raman govindan on May 18, 2010 04:29 PM  | Hide replies

indians do not produce battery of fast bowlers who can throw at more than 140 km per hour consitently. the sort of bowling intmidates the opposition and demoralises them. that type of bowling is needed locally also to provide necessary practice to our batsmen to face such attack on its on it's day. most of our success are mostly on the occassions when the opponent's pace attack is off form or wicket does not aid them or aids spin or when the indian batsmen performance is oustanding.

if we need to win consistently, in international cricket, we have to engage 100 tall youngsters at very young age, train them in the art of fast bowling, give them decent edcation, provide them very good accommodation, food, clothing, sumptuous allownces, insurance health and life for a substantial amount, provide decent career opening and and release them to cricket clubs. we can have a boy from each 1 crore of population. cash balance with BCC is overflowing and they can afford to spend in the interst of cricket.

i just cant understand why we indians only take seriously the Cricket, rather than our national game is Hockey then why we are just watching only cricket matches.
why we give most honour only this Gentelmens game..any one think about it? if we give the same respect our National Game insted of this. so,the picture will be different like other countries sport.

Lazy Indians have identified themselves with lazy cricket.Indians are not capable of playing vigorous games like football,tennis,etc.properly.
The only part of cricket which requires great physical power is fast bowling. No indian is capable of fast bowling at 150km.,the maximum speed at intl.level.

Fast bowling requires stamina and strong fitness regime. Pitches in india are not suitable for bowlers except spinners. Zaheer and Nehra are the only bowlers who had played from the last decade hence their pace are reducing tremendously due to their age. The BCCI must look out for fresh young talents and provide consultation on fast bowling techniques and temperament. The board must understand that the cricket cannot deliver winning results by the batsman only. The team requires strong batting, bowling and fielding techniques. As far as Ishant sharma is concerned, his mind is scrambled coz of different opinions from the coach and their assistants. He has to play county league in UK to gain confidence and increase consistency level. Also, he should make changes on his line & length and speed by watching videos of Glenn McGrath.
