No one played bouncers better than Amarnath
by Sree Kumar on May 18, 2010 01:36 PM  | Hide replies

There has not been a better player of short pitched balls (bouncers) than Mohinder Aamrnath. He had the perfect technique for scoring against the short pitched balls. Who can forget the way he used to hook the bouncers of Malcom Marshall?

Whenever there was a fielder at deep fine leg, Amarnath used to use his bottom hand to push down the ball while hooking bouncers and the ball used to land at short fine leg. When there was no fielder at deep fine leg, he used to hook the ball the way it is played normally.

Gavasker scored 7/13 hundreds in windies against Marshall, holding,Roberts, garner and 4/7 hundreds in aus against Lillee and Thompson.Manjrekar too was successful in windies and pak.Tendulker scored 7 100s in Aus and 3 in South Africa.
Likes of Vengsarker,Patil,Sardesai,Wadekar have shown great courage against fast bowling. So it is wrong to say Indians cannot face fst bowling.
In India actors and politicians are from north, businessmen like Ambanis are mostly from gujarat and mathematicians, scientists are mostly from south.
Just as a marathi can only become Ritesh Deshmukh or Amol Palekar and not Amitabh in Bollywood,a UP wala South Indian cannot become Gavasker or Tendulker.
So leave cricket especially batting to Mumbai and Marathis.Rest should concentrate on things they are good at.
Even Dravid is Marathi manoos settled in Bangalore.

It is a question of Indian player not Marathi or Hindi. What do you think, marathi are not Indians. I am also Marathi person, but I love to be called Indian first.

Rahul Dravid is half Marathi, half Tamil settled in bangalore. So he is basically a mixture. Cant deny that he is one of the best players India has ever had against the short ball.

There is nothing parochial in my comments.Everybody has a speciality.A white man has never won a 100m olympic gold.Blacks are not good in gymnastics. It is a fact.I meant Marathis are good in some fields and equally poor in others. So does it mean i am regioanal.

India hasn't learned in 80 years of playing intl cricket

how long this has gone on - weakness against pace, rising ball... useless. Look like a bunch of cowards, scared of fast bowling. No change even as we know.

None of the Indian players can play a short raising ball. Why blame Srikkanth who selected a good team on paper. He can not drop Yuvi, Dhoni, Raina...also, Uthappa, Kohli and Manish Pandey are even worse to play a raising ball. This is the problem that the entire India should address- this is to do with our pitches, our system. Selecting A i/o B will not solve this problem.

Who told you that Manish,Uthappa, and Kohli can't play rising ball. They won't be worse than Chikkas crap Murali vijay who puts his bat behind his legs even while facing Darren samy and Shane watson.it's not his inability to handle short pitch which sucks but his footwork against quicks is pathetic. He is another Devon gandhi and Sujith Somasunder in making

if you observe the game more closely, ghambir is the biggest joker playing in the most improper way to a short pitch. So is yousuf. What is the average of yusuf in the tournament worse than Mitchell jhonsons of aussie. When your star performers do not perform how do you expect to blame the selection. What happened in WI 2007 world cup. Then did you blame the selection? Bcoz vengsakar was the selector. How many chances did agarkar get? Dont get talking about selection buddy! There are hell a lot of instances of mumbaikars getting more than plenty of chances.

Agarkar! Would you mind to compare his records with other pace bowlers?
With RP, SreeSanth, Parveen Kumar, Nehra and even with Khan? Compare his records by strike rate, by fielding point of view, by down order batting point of view and the talk about his higher eco rate then you will find only Khan, Nehra and Parveen a little, I repeat very little than Agarkar's (5.07 compare to other 4.9)
Dhoni spoiled his carrer for his friends RP and Sreesath. Check RP and Sreesath's eco rate (over 5.2 with even worse strike rate), their worst fielding, their on field behavior, their down order batting! And you say he got too many a chances!
He is the third highest wicket taker for India 288 wickets from some 190 matches, is this a bad record?

When the ball raises!!
by Indian Saint on May 18, 2010 12:02 PM

Sehwag, ever injured, will avoid the balls.
Yuvraj Singh, the manly youth he is, will 'raise' when he sees a ball.
Rohit, being lazy, will sleep between the balls
Ashish Nehra, being an innocent kid, will be lost between the balls.
Dhoni, the captain, will try to steward the balls and lose!
