is that the 1 mistake by umpire. makes the team which can enter semis. can make the team out so the umpire should help the players. they r player. so benefit of doubt should nbe taken. umpires r not right every time.

Especially when he was not sure, he should have taken advantage of existing technology. He ruined our chances, but some time from now, nobody will remember why India lost to WI.

Umpires also should be fined
by Jay on May 11, 2010 12:06 AM  | Hide replies

If umpires make mistakes they should also be punished. For every major mistake (only those cases when a batsman is incorrectly given out or not out) umpire should pay back 25% of his match fees. If there are more than 4 mistakes, he should pay from his pocket as there will be no fee. That way umpires will be more watchful. They can also reward an umpire by 10-20% bonus if the umpire makes no mistake in a match.

Guys like Bucknor would have ended up paying from his pocket.

Simple solution to your problem. Abolish the post of umpires as you have lost complete trust in them.

The rule of giving a batsman out (when we are batting) and the rule for signalling a four or a six (when we are bowling) will also help make the game a lot fairer to all concerned... ;-)

BTW, when Umpires make a mistake in OUR favour, are you as riled up? Do you consider our home series win against Sri Lanka should be abolished? Many of our domestic wins be overturned? Would be interesting to note your observations there... :)

Fine for umpire also is needed
by Jay on May 10, 2010 11:55 PM  | Hide replies

ICC should penalize umpires also. For every mistake (only in cases when a batsman is incorrectly given out or not out, leave other small mistakes) 20% of Umpire's match fee should be deducted or he has to pay 20% if there is no amount to be deducted. Are they ready to accept it? They can get also give a 10-20% bonus for umpires who get all decisions correct in a match. The likes of Bucknor would have paid a good amount back for his follies.

A better suggestion.... Abolish the rule of giving batsmen out... Abolish the role of umpires as they give wrong decisions only against Indian players... eh? :)

I DON'T WANT TO COMMENT ON SHRAMAS FINE BUT WHAT ABOUT UMPIRES THEY SHOULD ALSO GET SOME PUNISHMENT IN ANY WAY FOR THERE WRONG DECISIONS SO THAT THEY ALSO REALISE THE IMPORTANCE OF THEIR DECISIONS ON WHICH THE WHOLE MATCH IS DEPENDENT I CAN SUGGEST IF THERE DECISION HAS CHANGED THE FACE OF MATCH LKE THAT ONE OF INDIA THE PUNISHMENT SHOULD BE SEVERE IN SHORT SHOULD DEPEND ON THE MATCH SO THAT THERE HEART SHOULD BEAT TILL END OF MATCH LIKE FANS OF ME & YOU.CORRECT.

KSKalyan:

So if the decision is wrong, the batsman should signal to the umpire that he is wrong? :)

Great suggestion... it will take the game to new heights from here on...

A better suggestion would be to abolish the role of umpires altogether or at least stop them giving batsmen out (when we are batting) and giving no balls, fours or sixes (when we are bowling)... :)

That will be a most acceptable solution... :)

Because the Umpire's decision is NOT final.... at least for us.. :)
