Hypothetical example.....
by Crickbufff on May 06, 2010 05:07 PM  | Hide replies

the formula to a tennis game for eg.

Agassi vs Sampras
two sets each. 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, 6-7
fifth set tiebreaker playing Sampras to serve at 6-all!! Rain or lava storm or some weather intervention intervenes!!
Can any one predict the win mathematically??

Even if one is losing 0-6,0-6,0-5 and it rains, nobody will allow declaring the person who leads by 2 sets the winner. Then there is no use of playing a best of five sets.

alternative for D/L method
by santoshkumar bhat on May 06, 2010 11:41 AM  | Hide replies

This may sound silly but other alternative for D/L method in 20-20 is to share the overs left after rain interuption while batting second.
For example if 6 overs are left after the rain interuption then both teams can bat 3-3 overs like super overs and come to the conclusion that who is the winner. If rain interuption comes while chasing the chasing team should bat 3 overs and set a target for a team batted first earlier for 20 overs. Then team batting first should bat again. This may sound tricky but we can try to sort out the D/L in 20-20 to a huge extent.
analysis
Team batting first scores 191 in case of england
westendies scored 60 in 6 overs after rain had interupted by D/L method
Assume For ex. westendies scores 30 in 3 overs
then england should score 31 in 3 overs to win
If it is a tie Number of more sixes scored in those three overs can be counted
Please dont comment on this harshly but can be tried this is my personal opinion

Your suggestion needs to be looked at seriously. In the case of weather interruptions in 20-20 matches D/L methos may really be a misfit. It is high time the federations of different countries raise this issue in ICC and get the pattern changed.

Won't work with multiple rain interruptions, better to play hide and seek then :-)

You are saying abandon the match so far and play another match with 3 overs each with the second team batting first. This will make the first team's effort go waste. Suppose after 3 overs again it rains and you have time for only 2 overs, you scrap those 3 overs also and play 1 super over?

wrong

I still agree with existing D/L method. in a 20-20 game wickets do not matter much. the best resources the team batting has is scoring maximum runs while the fielding side to reduce the runs.
in a shortened gane the dot balls play an important role. if the run rate is 12 and we just have 4 dot balls the run rate will jump higher to 16-17.
hence in this case with having 9 batsmen and losing pollard to wide is a loss to WI because they gave a run and WI have still eight wickets. In 20-20 everyone is expected to score fast so if Pollard cannot, others will wack the ball.

best formula is not hold any world cup in future...instead this slot should be given to ipl...ipl was huge and lot better than this pathetic world cup....empty stands, the horrible cheer leader...eekss..even the mallu stars look better than these cheergirls...its high time that someone like lalit modi should occupy the top most post so that the world cricket can be given a new lease of life

prediction by formula for unpredictable game?
by abhishek chokhani on May 05, 2010 11:28 PM

how can there be any suitable formula for such an unpredictable game? when a clause for abondon is already there, it should be really extended to overcome any formula or better some reserve days should be worked out in the end of leage matches... i think by this atleast the number of abondoned matches will reduce till great extent and will bring better justified results.

every team comes with a plan to start slow or fast and they should be given an opportunity to play accordingly till the last over.

the only possiblity of any deciding formula should be limited to impossibilities of scores... like if a team need 50 runs in an over, it is impossible, then the match can be decided.

In the end run rate factor is always there anyways...

Due to D/L method, already some frustrating upsets have been seen...

ICC should come out with more transparant systems...

No Formula is good

How can one reduce the overs and score and decide on the outcome, No Game has this kind of illogical logic to decide the winner

Since we already have the super over, Its better in case of Rained matches, we set a timeout and wait till that time to see whether the play can continued

Otherwise, In case of 20 Over Game , we play a Mini Game of 3 each a side fresh, and both teams play 3 overs each and decide the Winner

In case 50 Overs also ,we can reduce the Game to 5 overs each and decide the outcome ,if the time limit is crossed

Reducing the Overs and Runs is ridicuolous formula, especially in a game where one single over can turn the Game
