Indians live in dream, thatas why they like 2 things - Movies and Cricket. Both are pre-scripted, results pre-decided commercial entertainment.

@ SS then why do you watch and follow these both? Nobody asked you to come here n comment. One need to be entertained no matter where the hell that comes in his way as long as it doesn't harm anybody else.
Even though I am an avid cricket fan, only this year I got to watch IPL live. thanks to ITV4! Great spectacle. It is further proof that public money is not needed to promote an established sport like cricket. IPL is a great training ground and the benefits will trickle down to many.

IPL is not sport. Its a purely commercial entertainment with pre-scripted matches in favor of the sponsors of the teams and players. The timings of IPL is decided by the Cola companies and various consumer consumer companies targeting sale of their junk products to Indians in the summer.

You are dreaming too high. Do not draw conclusions on basis of IPL. Also, India has played most of their cricket on super flat pitches in India suiting them in the last 2 years.
Otherwise Indian cricket team is a big DUD. They get kicked out in every major championship. Even lose to some B grade team in the final of a Tri-Series.
I would like to respectfully disagree with Mr. Tiwary. It is true I have never played competitive cricket ever but I am avid fan of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. I have closely followed their progress and you will note that every time they got dropped they went back to domestic cricket that allowed them more time in the field without the pressure. That way they can analyze their game and make necessary adjustments. In IPL you literally have to go after the ball from the get go and you have to play more unorthodox shots (Sachin Tendulkar is an exception) and you sort of dismiss the correct techniques that are required for the test matches which is still the real test for cricketers. When you ignore the correct technique, balance, shots too often you carry that with you to test cricket and then success becomes very hard to come by. One important aspect of cricket we loose in the 20-20 games is art of patience and the test of temperament. Therefore in my humble opinion players should not shun domestic cricket and BCCI should prepare more sporting pitches that helps the fast bowlers, batsmen and spin/slow bowlers. This will provide us the bench strength to have a good bunch of cricketers. I mean there is no reason for us not to have a few fast and bouncy pitches in the country and some pitches that help batsmen and some pitches to help spinners...the goal is to create good players who can play at the highest level under any circumstances.
Re: IPL vs Domestic Cricket
by True Indian on Mar 23, 2010 10:48 PM
The way domestic cricket is planned, we can only get good test level batsmen and left arm orthodox spinners. 2020 is a more evolved power game that takes more out of a bowler and batsman though its bit tough for spinners
But not in the list of probables for WC 2020. Neither is Irfan nor Sachin himself But we got losers like Balaji, Tyagi, Abhimanyu, Munaf Patel IPL doesnt involve politics and hence good for Indian cricket

WC2020 - that is 10 years from here!!
WC is just another match. Whoever does better on that day wins!! What is most important is not just winning WC but one should aim to every match regardless of the outcomes in the previous matches. For example, Let us say, we are playing a series and the series has been decided (India has won or lost) and a couple of matches are still to be played in the series, then our attitude is - well, series has been decided - why should we care for rest of the matches. This is a very bad attitude. Every match should be considered as important as WC match and played with same enthusism. Then only we can retain winning habbit (I am not writing anything new - I have observed that the australians have this attitude and that is why even after many greats retired their team cannot be taken lightly)

You're right with your thoughts
"well, series has been decided - why should we care for rest of the matches"
A typical attitude that I had seen during Ganguly era, even to the extent when Ganguly used to claim that series is won we need to rest regular players...
I hope it changes under new young captain in Dhoni, because habit of winning brings worldcup home
