Big Question
by SarvamKrishnarpanam on Jun 04, 2010 03:11 PM  | Hide replies

Cricket does not need Asian Games to promote and showcase its sportsmen, but does Asian Games need Cricket...that is the big question, Asian,Olympic and Commonwealth are for atheletes and other team sports which does not have a mass folowing, so why bother about Cricket when its anyway big among the fans, including those who critize the game and its players.

What the hell do u think..that any sport is bigger than the country..? People in other sports are not participating for the sake of promotion, but for passion. This in not a businees campaign going on here, Asiad and Olympics...The most found bird in India is the crow...but that does not make it our national bird..!!! The real problem is not cricket here, but the BCCI which is acting like a Big Boss to India.

What country, country, country? Is India only about cricket? Who we loose if India is not represented in cricket. There are many other games where we can win medals, atleast in Asian games...Sidelining cricket should start now which eventually should lead to its death.

India should not only be about cricket .. but currently .. Cricket is the most watched sport ..

meanwhile, India should as one of the leading nations in cricket .. take part in the development of the game in other countries .. and Asian Games etc.. is the right forum .. once all countries take part .. we will know where we stand .. Now there is not much point is saying .. that we are the No. Team .. when there are only 8 proper countries were cricket is played regularly at the highest level...

Actually, Asian Games does not need cricket as cricket is watched only in a few countries .. but Asian Games is watched by many more countries and it is a matter of pride and glory to represent .. let alone win it .. If India participate .. India has a chance to win it .. but BCCI is after commercial interests .. since Indian Olympic Association will be running the show .. BCCI will not get anything out of it! BCCI is doing what its name suggests .. Controlling Cricket in India...

Debate here is not wether inclusion of cricket in Asian game. Question is Cricket is going to be played as one of the sport in Asian game and India as a nation and among one of the handful country who plays cricket and still not sending Cricket team for bloody whimzical decision of few office bearer of BCCI and Government is not at all bothered.

If Cricket is included, media, TV, etc will only report where Yuvi was dining or What Dhoni had to say, no one will give a thought for Mary Kom or Vijendar or Bindra...it can be that bad for other sports in the country

Sarvam-i dont agree bcoz
If India play in Asian games, then the popularity of the game will not be in cricketing nations, but the whole set of countries. Evryone will watch cricket with interest just like we watch some chinese athlete doing gymnastics. If china is strong in athletics-India is strong in Cricket-Let the whole world know this.

Is this Indian Cricket team or BCCI's cricket team
by Venki on Jun 04, 2010 03:03 PM  | Hide replies

This is too bad if they want to call themselves Indian Cricket team and want to use the word Ind/India in the matches that they play then they need to represent India and not worry about their international commitments.
If they do not send any team then I will stop watching any cricket match involving BCCI's team and will try to ensure that others near me also do the same.
Shame on BCCI and the players who play for them. They want to leave in this country and use the resources of this country but not represent the country...

Why Kumble talking?
by mang on Jun 04, 2010 02:25 PM  | Hide replies

Kumble is now talking because he is not playing now a days except in IPLs. Otherwise, he would have also kept mum like other players. If government wants India to be represented in cricket, why does not sport ministry form a commitee, chose players who are not part of BCCI team (plenty of talent available) and send the team to Asian games? Why Kalmadi is cribbing instead of challenging BCCI? There are many proud players available like Kapil, Amarnath, etc who can be part of the commitee.

People can still hold it against Kumble for speaking. The guys in BCCI are such that they would not allow him to be a part of cricketing fraternity, and would not allow him to function in any official capacity. In this scenario,Kumble speaking out is commendable.

Dear..Kumble can and should talk..if everyone keeps mum then how can an opinion be formed ? And cricketers do not have any say in the board's decision, in any case. But what surely needs to be done is that the BCCI needs to be stripped of its autonomous powers by the Govt. of India. Bcos right from the IPL saga to the Asiad one, the BCCI has showed scant respect to the nation. If it is too large for its shoes, it should be shown the door. Already it has made cricket into a tool in the hands of businessmen and film stars. The very essence of the sport has been robbed by the BCCI. No wonder players too are showing little patriotism to donning the Indian cap, instead of their IPL bosses.

MY BLOOD IS BOILING..
by om shanti on Jun 04, 2010 02:17 PM

We are offering two Asian games gold medal(mens/womens cricket) in a platter to Pakistan/Srilanka..an Asian games or Olympic gold is a matter of national pride..and one gold medal can raise our positon a lot in the medal tally..we must make sure to get Hockey,Kabaddi,Shooting,Archery,Wt.lifting boxing and Cricket gold medals..it is matter of the prestige of Indians..IF BCCI does not agree blacklist it for anti national activities and send a team from ICL players and make Kapil Dev ,the coach/selector...

I also feel that BCCI players are ddrug addicts including Sachin,Dhoni,Yuvraj,Zaheer,Harbhajan,so they are keeping silence on the matter...

Rediff please take up the matter like Bt.Brinjal to force this money hungry enemy of the nation BCCI to send our team to Asiad..

I appreciate Kumble and Vijender and request entire sports community to force BCCI to bent on their knees..

no indian cricket team for asiad 2010
by biswanath roy on Jun 04, 2010 02:00 PM

bcci has decided not to send a cricket team for asiad 2010, because bcci fears that some of our cricketers will be caught in dope test. olympics,& asiad are very strict on conducting dope tests, & as it is well known that some of our established cricketers take "performance enhancing drugs", they stand a chance of presence of drugs in their urine samples. in beijing 2008, dope tests were conducted very regularly, due to which american sprinters(men & women)failed miserably & did not win a single sprint event or relay race.
