AUGUSTINE DIAS
the Team

Drop Gambhir, He has been failing repeatedly. An opening partnership is what is badly required for India to get a good start.
Secondly, this is a Test Match, We need 5 specialist BAtsmen & 5 specialist bowlers. One specialist spinner is enough. Indian Spinners have not fared well in Srilanka in the past.Yuvraj Must be promoted to No.3 position . darvid;s old fashioned approached to the game will not help. Just staying at the wicket will not help save the match, The batsmen need to attack at least occassionally to put presure back on the bowlers, if the batsmen does not score for long, there is a definite chance of loosing wicker under pressure,In fact, it is high time Dravid & Laxman should now make way for young promising players. I have myself been a fan of Dravid, But he must leave for the better now before he is thrown out.
The selectors logic appears to be failing miserably. It is also observed that we have very high expectations from the batsmen, the fact remains that our bowlers failed to deliver. In this manner, even if our batsmen scores 600 runs, it will not be sufficient for us to defend the total, i have a verys strong feeling that the medium fast bowlers will be able to deliver. we ned not have any specialist spinners in the team at all.You can utilise sehwag, yuvraj & sachin to bowl spin

One test failure and you blame Gambhir. You are an idiot. You know nothing about cricket. Even Sunil Gavaskar had got out cheaply in both innings several times in his time. It is always easy for an opening batsmen to fail facing the new ball.

But Augustine's other points are valid. Gambhir is not our point of worry because out of two openers atleast one is faring enough (SEHWAG). Its basicaaly the middle order batsmen and the bowlers we need to check. Until unless our middle order batsmen does not deliver and our bowlers do not perform it is very difficult to win a test match. Sachin, Rahul and VVS has to perform and see that they can pass one whole day out of 5 among them while scoring too. Later on YUvraj and Dhoni can Blow quick runs at the end to make our total to the dignity mark. This is how the test match has been played for years. But we need to strengthen our bowling department too because as AUGUSTINE said no matter how much we score if we are unable to defend then no total is big. We are playing with international side SRI LANKA and not gali team. The moment we gave a great start to the oponent's team at the frist day the battle was half lost for us. Then rain disturbed too but the bottom line is atleast we have to take care that one of our opening batsmen perform, 2 of our middle order batsmen has to perform and 1 of our late middle order batsmen has to perform and atleast 2 of our bowlers need to perform. If this happens i do not think we will lose. See Sri Lankan side thats what they have done.

There is no meaning in being no.1 among 5 test playing countries. There is some glory in being no.1 in ODIs.India achieved it more than one year ago for the first time in history.India lost it within 24
hours.Hahahaha!!
India may never again achieve no.1 status in ODIs.The mighty aussies
sits on that throne as if glued by fevikwick!!!!

what to do
by Trikkur ramaswamy on Jul 24, 2010 10:06 AM

Let them play the test cricket way and not the oneday or 20x20 way.The pitch had nothing special proved by the SriLankan batting. The difference their batsmen and bowlers stood upto their calibre and our ones trying to stand upto their advertisement weight and values.
Ban them in appearing for the ads fooling public.

India's defeat
by S.G. Krishnan on Jul 24, 2010 07:58 AM  | Hide replies

Whenever there is a defeat we always discuss about the weaknesses of our Team. Our Team remains the same - the same old guys playing for many years, poor fitness and poor fielding abilities. Our bowlers are already weak and when we play away from home we become too weak(despite bowling conditions favouring the bowlers). Harbhajan has been a over rated bowler. He played in the Company of Anil Kumble and for quite few years he has not been able to take wickets, like what Murali of Srilanka does even today. Over all our players are over rated, excepting a few like sachin or to some extent sehwag. otherwise it is an ordinary team and can never be the same consistently. Team selection, the captain, also has equal say and for that matter Dhoni is given more importance. Hence, the blame has to be shared by all. In the coming years, we will be seeing more of losses...so..be ready..

Bench is not good. Replace Murali Vijay
by sreenivasulu reddy on Jul 24, 2010 03:08 AM  | Hide replies

I believe Srikanth is playing the cards in a careful manner. He is selecting the Tamil nadu players and putting them on Bench. If not Tamil Nadu players, then he is selecting players from Chennai Super Kings. That's why there is no competition to front end players. I believe Srikanth needs to move from Tamil Feelings. He needs to select players like Pujara, Rayudu, Manish Pandey and Rahane. I believe in present indian team, Vijay Murali, Yuvraj and Suresh Raina are unfit for tests. Yuvi and Raina are best suited for ODIs where as Viajy Murali is best suited for Tamil nadu. Instead of selecting junk players like Vijay Murali, Dinesh Karthik etc, it is better to look at brighter prospects like Rayudu, Rahane, Pujara and Manish Pandey. Also selectors need to look at spinning prospects. I believe Harbajhan is not a leader like Anil Kumble.

Agree with you Srinivas but not totally. India needs more of bowlers and not more of batsmen. Also, I would not blame Srikanth for selection. It is upto the team to play well. However, I feel DInesh Karthik is ok (he recently got the man of the match in finals. Not sure how you forgot so soon). He could have been in for Yuvaraj SIngh.Honestly speaking, even Dravid does not deserve a place in the team the way he is playing (very rare and funny to see getting run outs in test match. This should not happen with a seasoned and experienced player). When these so called most experienced players make such huge mistakes, no point in blaming young generation.
