Srikanth - Show your true spirit
by sreenivasulu reddy on Jul 16, 2010 08:03 PM  | Hide replies

I believe Srikanth had the capabilities of becoming a good captain. Unfortunately he was axed due to political reasons. But Srikanth did very well as a captain during that short time frame.
But I am furious why Srikanth is failing as a selector especially after playing india for a long time. He might not have forgotten the politics which removed his captaincy. But that doesnot mean that he needs to play the same type of politics again. He needs to show whole india that he is a capable selector. For that, first of all he needs to stop selecting the Tamil nadu B Grade players like Murali Vijay, Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik and Badrinath. Might he is getting too much pressure from other tamils. But he has to tell them that he is indian selector and not tamil nadu selector. He needs to show the true spirit. Then only he will go down as one of the best selector. Otherwise he is going to go down as one of the worst selector in indian histroy. Everyone will say there won;t be another Srikanth in this country. he needs to stop these smelly smelly tamil ideas.

Reddy ur again spreading hatred..u may be right by calling Vijay a b grade..but the rest of them are better and have performed..u r more interested in bashing tamils as a whole rather than improving Indian cricket..any ur attitude is sick as ur mind..

Sunder - How can you say that Dinesh Karthik is a good batsman. There are players like Pujara, Rahane, Rayudu who are better than Dinesh Karthik. My belief is that Srikanth has the capabilities of becoming a very good selector. But unforuntely he is going south

Kapil Dev missed only 1 test (Calcutta test) during his entire career. that too because of some rift between him and gavaskar. he never missed a test because of fitness. he played 131 tests in all. he was such a fittest player India has ever produced.

Kapil Dev is a legend, the greatest all rounder we have produced. In his prime, he was a marvellous player to watch, a natural who played with carefree freedom and refreshing exuberance that was a joy to watch.

A thrilling and exciting batsman, superb and crafty bowler, brilliant and sound fielder, and above all, a spontaneous captain who enjoyed his mates and opponents respect, he was in every sense a complete all rounder.

Mind it,he bowled ag some of the true batting greats like Sir Vivian Richards, Gordon Greenidge, Des Haynes, Clive Lloyd, Gower, Gooch, Border, Greg Chappell, Miandad, Zaheer Abbas, Mohsin Khan, Martin Crowe, etc. And batted ag Holding, Marshall, Hadlee, Imran, Wasim, Botham, etc.

He was a rare breed, who comes along once in a while.

Kapildev the Great
by bukkaraya krishna on Jul 16, 2010 07:42 PM  | Hide replies

He has not got the due respect as in the case of others the main reason for this is he is not a Mumbaikar and he play sincere cricket and not bloody politics as the case of Mumbaikars. All the present players who are reaping the benefits of IPL should thank Kapildev as it is his idea of having a league in 20-20 but due to financial muscle power of BCCI his league supported by ZEE has not succeeded. He was not given the due respect at 25yrs celebration of World cup winning.

I think we should call him as "Sir Kapil Dev". Forget about our nation and BCCI. They wont give him this much honour, but as an Indian Citizen we can give him. Anybody oppose me?

I have very little respect for Srikanth as a batsman, for I think he was very ordinary. He was an average captain too. But I have a lot of respect for him, for his comments on Kapil.

Kapil is the last true all-rounder India has produced. The Best captain, if you compare from a world cup prespective. No body plays cricket the way he did. He is the only player I have seen that Gavaskar has accepted as his cricketing idol. True legend. My only cricketing idol.

got to add....

I very much agree with some comments here that Kapil was not treated the way he should have been. For all his acheivements, we let a cheap bugger like Manoj Prabhakar to make match fixing allegations against Kapil. And nobody came to his side with any effective defence, and was left to defend himself. I feel sad for him. But whatever is thrown at gold, gold is still gold. Kapil is gold standard.

I disagree with your estimate abt Krish Srikanth. HE was a exciting and thrilling batter to watch, though not technically sound. Fearless and courageous, he took on the quick's head on and tore them apart many a time. Many quick in his time feared his rapier like blade. If only had strong technique and determination of Gavaskar, he would have been a cricket legend

One of the number 1 legend of INDIAN Cricket is KAPIL DEV NIKANJ..Hats up to him. under his captaincy India one most of the one day matches. He is the gentleman who upgraded Indian one day team. After KAPIL gentlemen like AJAY JADEJA / SAURAV GANGULY / RAHUL DRAVID maintained the one day wictory records for INDIAN Cricket team. SACHIN contributed a lot to INDIAN cricket. But we can't compare KAPIL to any one mentioned above. KAPIL is KAPIL.

Srikanth

Srikanth was one of the very good captains who got rough deal. He was considered to be a captain who thinks inovatively. Pinch Hitter, Utilizing First 15 overs ... were his discoveries . Unforunately he lost captency after winning in PAK . I still remember matches around 1985 . As a kid once Srikanth gets out, used to wait for Kapil eagaly . Gavaskar,Shastry,Amarnath,Vengy ... Oh it was very boring to watch them at that time :-)

in 1989, 'Draw' a series in Pak itself could be seen as a Victory bocz at that time only Windies hv won the series in Pak and all other teams lost the series in Pak. Srikkanth was the only captain who had DRAW the series in Pak until Sourav Ganguly won the series there.

Kapil Dev - The Captain
by caruthedath gopalakrishnan on Jul 16, 2010 04:29 PM

Kris Srikkanth's praising of Kapil Dev cannot be mistaken as demotivating the present or earlier captains. In 1983, India was nowhere in the ODI scene leave alone a contender for the quarter final spot.

Whereas in the late 90's onwards we have had fantastic batsmen like Tendulkar, Sehwag, Ganguly, Yuvraj, Dhoni, etc. and inspiring fast and spin bowlers.

Despite this, it is a pity that we have not been able to win a World Cup since 1983. That speaks volumes of the captaincy of Kapil Dev and the motivated team he had to win the first ever World Cup for us.
