India has what it takes to reamin number one for many decades
by M Alem on Jan 13, 2010 08:21 AM  | Hide replies

Indian batting is by far better than its nearest competitors and the gap will only widen. Indian team can score 700 runs in an innings against any team. Therefore having mediocre bowling will never be a factor. Moreover Dhoni's captaincy and enthusiasm is better than combination of any top bowlers.

MAlem,

It is well know fact that if you are infatuated with something--in your case you are infatuated with ordinary player like Dhoobi--, you do not see shortcomings or cant not think rationally.

Any amount of discussion is fruitless with people like you, Mr. Alem. Enjoy your day dreaming.

Alem:

Correct. :)

Whoever said that only teams that can take 20 wickets in a match can win tests must have been a complete novice as far as cricket is concerned. :)

Too good!! ;-)

INDIA No 1
by Raghavan on Jan 13, 2010 08:08 AM

He is right. Just by some 3out of 5 batsman scoring runs, we are putting opponent batsmen in pressure.
Our bowling shows inadequacy. Lacks consistency. Bajji & Zaki need to buck up as main leading bowlers.
Our fielding - less said the better. Progressively, we are going more to club cricket standard in fielding!!

I am sure you have learned the word, IInferiority CComplex" by heart. That is why everything can be analyzed or judged by you on the basis of fffavoritism and ddiscrimation.

Damn it, try to learn to appreciate rational views even if they come from people you may not like.

Whats the fuss?

The teams who have dominated in different eras always had great bowling attack. Australia had great bowling attack in 70s, WI had a great pace battery in 80s. Australia had McGrath-Warne winning matches to make them a champion team in 90s and for a major period in the last decade.

All Ian Chappell is saying is India is a great batting side with above average bowlers which is not good enough to remain at number 1 for long. Nothing less nothing more

Good point. Who needs bowlers who can take 20 wickets when we have great batsmen who can draw all the test matches we will play? :)

India has gained a lot by rotation of batsmen and bowler, look how kathik helped. same with bowlers, now it is time to rotate the captain and wicket-keeper.

Good teams have great batsmen but what limits them to become great teams is absence of world class bowlers.

Reading your comment compels me to add that the dominating teams in different eras had some great batsman to go along with great bowlers just to name a few: Viv Richards, Clive Lloyd, Alvin Kalicharan, Desmond Haynes, Gordan Greenidge Allan Border, Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh, Ricky Ponting, Mathew Hayden, Adam Gilchrist.

I just assumed that you were aware of this fact.

Nonsense ian
by your Doctor on Jan 13, 2010 07:39 AM  | Hide replies

Have he seen India, he might have roamed in AC cars from Metro city to Metro city, there are Hundreds of Sehwags, Sachins, Dhonis, Pathans, Harbajans etc, unfortunately many didnt get chance and has he ever seen children playing in India. Certainly India has more resources than any other country on earth. Not the white skinned countries having racial grudge. Seems he has forgot the present winning Indian team is not having Sachin, Sehwag or Saurav who are in Ian Chappels mind.

crooked analysts
by xyz brain on Jan 13, 2010 07:28 AM

these so called learned analysts and there aruguments baffle me. they say indian batsmen are no good even tho they have very high averages cz indian batsmen play at home on the batting friendly wickets. and indian bowlers not world class cz they have higer strike rate and averages. well if in india most of the pitches are batting fridnly then ther will be more runs made so batters have high averages and bowlers will hav hig avg and low strike rates. if u judge then judge on how they perfored individually at each place. for example compare shane warnes performance in india widh bajji performance in india and vice versa. then we will c whos best whos good.
