TRUTH DRAVID
by madanmohan siddhanthi on Feb 23, 2010 05:13 PM

One of the very few players whom I respect enormously. Don't you see the sea change - we have fewer and fewer people playing becuase of passion .Today the other fomrat earn them so much money they need not play test cricket .Take for example VVSL he does not play in one dyas and 20-20 whenever he plays tests he does so well .
Unfortunately test cricket is time consuming - my whole career of 45 years in organsiations I have seen people thru various media keep following the game today we can see live in internet .I am sure wih the type of unemployment and sudo employment we have a huge following .That is the reason many advertise in the TV. We are fast paced and we do nopt want to wait and think - that is what all the mini crickets are .
ICC ,BCCI are all commercial to the core .Frankly if test cricket dies there will be few from these organsiations who will shed a tear. Given a chance -BCCI will organsie a few hundred 20-20 and few scores of ODI .Please it is question of time - test cricket will vanish in India .
All IPL etc are nothing but business -tomorrow they may start their own sixes tourney as long as it gives them mulla.
The other aspect is betting which runs into hundreds of crores of rupees - they are not interested in test cricket for thei bet results.
Also remmember the old genre loving the game of old format are leaving the world slowly ,the genenxt is not keen .The end is near - so it is no use accept change.yes! we will misstest cricket.

IPL and its minuses
by sanath on Feb 23, 2010 05:10 PM  | Hide replies

My neighbor's wife recently was telling my wife that she would like her 2-year-old son to grow up and be a cricketer. When my wife said that it is nice we could see him in the national team after many years, my neighbor's wife at once said pagal hain kya, will send him only for IPL - that way lots of money thru playing and advertisements and no need to fear ppl's backlash if India loses.

Now this is just one of those ppl who must be thinking like that - when there is an option to earn more with less risk, then why opt for tests and national team ?

Also, IPL has exposed our ground conditions and also the technical flaws of our players (including bench strength) to other countries, whereas we get to study only 4 outside players (and that too retired in some cases) and don't gain much from that.

So who gains from IPL ? I dont find any one other than Lalit Modi who gains by this circus.

LACK OF TECHNIQUE
by krishna on Feb 23, 2010 05:04 PM

Dravid is spot on.Since he is a gentleman to the core he has not told the naked truth ie Raina Rohit etc are not technically competent or graceful like the trio of Sachin Dravid and VVS.Fast cricket had killed the talent and technique instead brutal power is enough to score some quick runs and be in the team.Tipical eg are Afridi Yousuf Pathan Rainas.Certainly Test is the real skill for any player,

God of test cricket

As for my concern, dravid is the only batsman who can kill any bowler in test cricket. Saurav once said in an interview"dravid is a god of test cricket".

I know anuj, you are just kidding, else why would you harp against a man who scored 10000 one day runs against some of the finest bowling attack and the one who has top 3 best strike rate for RoyalBangalore

Do agree with ur critics on this issue.Youngsters should think about this factor. We need to develop a unique team for test matches in the near future.

wht Dravid meant is,that because of 20-20 ,like of Rainas and Sharmas (who are definetly a potential) lack that extra 'all-consuming' desperation to play test cricket.Even if they are not pick for test cricket they are not desparate as they are in one day and 20-20 team.He is not much worried about them coz, they atleast know test cricket and sooner or later they will play it.But wht about the next generation ?

I think Sarvam is right. He didnt specifically mention Raina or Rohit. He is talking about 15,16 year olds today who think IPL is what matters.

Happy to see him talk very straight.

Yes,I agree with what Dravid has to say that today 'Raina's and Rohith's' lack the passion what it needs to play test cricket. They all are in a mood to make quick runs, read it quick money and not test their skills by playing or thinking about test cricket.Defineltly there would be great void created after Dravid,Sachin,Laxman retire from longer format of the game.A great example of that can be seen in Australia team, where they sruggled with SA in their home series,Ashes and Border Gavasakar trophy last year.Test cricket needs to be revamped.
