It is unfortunate that Lee will retire. He is a nice cricketer. He managed to play for nearly one decade without injury. Now time come as usual for a fast bowler. We will be missing a nice glamourous but decent player from cricket field. Lee, pl play short version of game. Hats off Lee.
This news was already expected of such a terrific but injury prone fast bowler. In any case, even if he'd got fit, he would've struggled to make it into the current squad which includes Bollinger, Mitchell Johnson, Mckay, Nannes, Tait, Hilfenhaus, Siddle etc. It is indeed a smart decision although we'd miss him in test cricket.

any fast bowler, in any country and in any condition can be considered good, effective and will be deadly deadly (depending on pace-sorry no qualifiers from the sub-continent as our fastest bowlers are basically-dal, bath, sak bowlers-i.e.medium pace/spin)only for a maximum of 1k overs. After that their pace will decelerate, the effectiveness slowly wearing off and injuries (read "body protests") of hips, knees, ankles, heels, toes. shoulder, arm, inability to swing etc. starts to surface. No medical talent can restore this malady. A wise bowler will recognise these nature's hints and get out in time.
