No security can be 100% fool proof. He is right when he says that. It can't be said that he is interested only in monetizing cricket. When security concerns arose for IPL-II, he shifted the whole tournament to SA. He should share the security plans with the overseas players and address their concerns. If they are still apprehensive, then IPL can go on without them.
This guy is going over board. Looks like he handles the security for India and he is the one who decides where the security is good or not good. Looks like he is just becoming crazy monitizing cricket. Such over indulgence will have short life.
Look at the patterns. (Examples in brackets) #1. Whoever gets a slice of the cake (money pie) supports IPL. (Warne, Hayden, Gilchrist, Flintoff) #2. Whoever doesn't have the slice opposes it. (Andrew Strauss, Miandad) #3. Whoever opposed it in the begining because they did not get a slice to begin with, but are now part of IPL, making money, supports IPL. (Wasim Akram) #4. Whoever supported IPL to begin with are indurectly opposing it now because they are not part of it. (Ponting, Ranatunga)
While every one cares about security, the trade off (money) is big- very big. It is all about money.....man. We fans clearly know it. However, having said this, IPL is indeed played competitively- people who play IPL are taking it seriously- thats a good news for us. It is not exhibition cricket.

Ponting is a hypocrite. He's obviously pissed because his contract was compromised this year. There was always a distinct possibility he would never show up for any of the IPL tournaments. He's a gold blooded Aussie and puts his country on top. I just wish some of our own cricketers think that way.

Well all our cricketers are in India. They are not after Aussie or British leagues anymore. Better money in India, why they have look for greener pastures outside. By the no need to tell about Ponting. The day, he thinks he is making better money outside, he will be first to jump out of Australia. Today, he has been sidelined and hence his country is on top of his agenda.

If you are asking that question to Modi then he probably needn't. Our politicians are busy polishing the backs of sociopaths, underworld criminals and terror leaders. It's their duty to be worried about such incidents. Unfortunately the 'common' man in India has to deal with such disasters. The IPL is a business venture involved with cricket... nothing more, nothing less.

But unfortunately, the "common man" has to sit in stadiums during the venture.... placing his life in the hands of the sociopath and underworld criminal back polishers.. That's all..
1. Modi, whether u agree or not, is right! The IPL is a privaten Indian tournament made for India with Indian players & Indian money. Few intl players were invited. But some of them & their cricket boards have become greedy by earlier asking to increase foreign players in each team. Modi said NO rightly. So now these tactics are being played by GORAAS! Let them come or LOSE out.
We can BAN them from future IPLs just like we banned the terrorist cuntry players who tried to show us attitude last year saying they cannot come. GOOD, v dont want or need them.
2. Hence the terroristaan will team up with ISI to try their utmost to sully our lucrative tournament & image in world eyes since theuir grapes are sour & they r born with hatred n jealousy anyways. IGNORE their rants, secure our country & MOST OF ALL BE PATRIOTIC & STAND UNITED. No infighting as then we will be destroyed (refer history & learn - not too late)
I am PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN AGAIN today! Go MODI! GO INDIA!

DD:
;-) Good that you figured out IPL is a private tournament.
Any idea why the tax payers money is being spent on this hoo haa about security?
Any idea why Modi hadn't taken the same stance last year, when he was perfectly happy with South Africa hosting the tourney (coz he was busy bullying the Indian goverment back then)... :)

AP....I like your comments- I am a fan of yours. Let me come to the point. I see one difference at least. Last year (IPL-2), the Govt. explicitly did not come out with any statements. possibly due to elections. This year, the home monister PC has gone on record saying that it is safe.

Vathula:
Precisely my point. Government had asked Modi to reschedule, but he bullied them, and went off to South Africa instead.
So this year we WILL have a security provided by the Tax Payers (courtesy Chidambaram) to the "Private Tournament", which DD has already pointed out. :)
So do tell me what's the "difference" from my message that you are talking about? :)

@AP: About the shift last year, itz simply becoz Govt honestly said our security system was stretched by elections. So like any pvt body or biz, to secure its interests they moved cuntry since moving the dates was'nt possible due to tight ckt calendar.
U have a point (y taxpayers muni?) but fact is same question applies to Govt provifing Z class security to criminal politicos like thakres, etc even when they r not in power. So thats another story dude.

AP ... U tripping on this one.. likely to loose a few supporters :) what is so un-patriotic that Modi has done? and U call it cowardice when the gov still backs out on providing security? strange!!

Sunny:
All I am commenting on is that Lalit Modi has shown us last year that he cares about IPL, not about India.... That's why I said it was good that DD suddenly found Lalit Modi to be patriotic this year... If there is a factual error in my message, I am happy to accept it in advance.. :)

I do agree IPL 2 should have been played in India OR postponed. After all it's a private venture. I wasn't amused when the IPL was played in SA. It looked awkward and 'different'. It was ridiculous. I can only comment Modi's determination and efforts in the end. Other than that, the whole affair lacked credibility. Especially with Shilpa Shetty latching herself on to Gerald Majola (UCBSA's chairman) during one of the games. It was disgusting and a disgrace to our great nation.
