PICKING INJURED PLAYER IS CRIMINAL
by damodaran mohan on Feb 11, 2010 06:44 PM  | Hide replies

Where Srikant &co erred were in picking an injured Laxman and having more bowlers. But the selectors cannot be blamed for the loss because the whole team played badly. However the media ranting is not justified because winning and losin is part of sports, more so the game of cricket. Even with fab four or five team India have collapsed for below 100 score in the past. So, it is time to move on with course corrections. Further, running down an up comimg youngster like W Saha is also very mean of the media. The main problem with this team is that the bowling is lacking ‘sting’ and once the opposition team puts up a big total, then due to pressure of the big total even the best team can collapse. Moreover the ‘spin’ attack needs to be more imaginative and try out all options. May be they can try the outside the leg-stump line bowling and exploit the rough patch which Paul Harris exploited very successfully. Amit Mishra should try this option more often as a rule than as exception in case the pitch is not helpful to spinners. Even Sachin should be bowled in case they play with only four bowlers.

Good observation. Saha did not do badly at all in his maiden test when he held one end up in the second innings. We talk of how haris was successful, but how many of our present day indian batsmen use their feet to the spinners apart from sehwag and gambhir? They tend to play from the crease which makes it easy for harris and co to have men around the bat. Even sachin does not come down the wicket and prefers to paddle sweep the spinners. We struggled against the bandladeshi spinners as well. It is the batsmen fault and not any grt bowling by haris. We need to set out thinking right and play positively which would pay dividends.

Buddy, kartick might be good against domestic teams, but has failed in test matches and against top bowling attacks, so how do u justify his selection? Sure badri is a typical test batsman, but needs to improve his stroke play as u cannot be playing like chris tavare of england who was plodder! Vijay has the talent and the stroke play, but can be a more consistent. He can be groomed.

Srikkanth is really need to grow up
by spring on Feb 11, 2010 11:04 AM  | Hide replies

Srikkanth is really need to grow up. i am not expert in cricket but i would select best team based on performance. but the current selector interested in religion politics and with some selfish players put themselves first rather than winning for country. it is hard fact. my team would be:
1. G Gambhir
2. V Sehwag
3. V Kohli/RG Sharma
4. SK Raina/RG Sharma
5. SR Tendulkar
6. KD Karthik/IK Pathan
7. MS Dhoni
8. RA Jadeja
9. S Sreesanth/A Nehra/MM Patel
10. Z Khan
11. A Mishra

Oh yeah ?? You are the one who needs to grow up, Mr.Spring. The Indians lost to a outstanding display of pace bowling and we were unfortunately without Dravid and Laxman ( assuming they would have contributed, which cannot be guaranteed). The bowling was simply too good, as acknowledged by anyone who really knows cricket, and not some half baked moron who might think that Srikkanth screwed up. Grow up, mate. Are you still in school ?

Agreed. But badri needs to improve his stroke play as merely occupying the crease without pushing the score along would not get him anywhere. He would become anoither Chris tavare, the plodder!

selection error
by sonny gong on Feb 11, 2010 10:55 AM

This is sad for indian cricket. There is no logic based selection and it is sad that they dont have to justify either. Sri and co are shooting in the dark. Firstly, Kartick should only play if Dhoni is not available. Not as a pure batsman because he is not a batsman but a keeper who can bat. What India needs is a better bowling attack. Sree is a good bowler but wont do well as he is getting back from an injury and typically takes time to get into a rhythm. Sree is also temperamental. Nehra would have been a better bet and good Mithun is out who did not do much at the board president game. Jaffer should have been recalled. Why Raina? Sri and co are rolling the dice.....i think they are not aware of Raina's skills against pace. Vijay can play pace but certainly Kartick will make a mess.......watch.I hope dhoni and the boys think it through....before eden.
