Tendulkar is good. Its just like that "He cooked the food good but the taste is bad". There are many others whom we can't forget for their valuable contribution. Few to name are Maj Dhyanchand, Great Pele, Garry Sobers and DON... Breadman, the greatest. I think that the modern tools & technology and the business interests ie the live coverage & the media has definitely promoted the current players as GREAT & Greatest, which faded the glory of all time greats who performed & excelled in absence of requisite & facilities. Can any one imagine playing Soccer/ Football at international level w/o the BOOTS or an athlete sprinting bare foot. SO please don't COMPARE just to devaluation of those REAL GREATS. If you could understand the difference think twice & Forget Tendulkar & if at all if you still wants to remember him, remember him for the business. Now he is not a player rather he is a businessman and CRICKET is his product & business.

The greatest fault on Tendulker is that he born India and played consistantly for India for 21 years with dedication and hard work

ToI is condusting a poll to vote 4 the World's Greatest Sports Personality ....the list includes 12 names...

The biggest joke is the list misses the names as Sergei BUbka,Wayne Gretzki,Yelena Isniabayeva, Lin Dan , Micheal Phelps..
..
The bigger joke is between Sachin and Dhyan Chand, there are 81% votes. This shows how ridiculous this poll is. Only 19% amongst Federer, Pele, Ali, Carl Lewis and the rest of the non-Indian nominees. LOL. This is a poll with a lot of credibility.

One more thing, you can vote as many times as possible...so schin fans will be doing this till ToI closes this polling...

Useless records
by Rajesh Ratan on Dec 24, 2010 01:05 PM  | Hide replies

Indians cannot excel in individual sports . so for them it has become a habbit to cherish cricket individual performances which are nothing but accumulations by playing over a long period of time. I know Kapil Dev was admired since he broke Hadlee's record. Kapil I suppose played some 134 tests to Hadlees 87. He retired only after breaking his record by one wicket. See the quality. Same with Gavaskar. 70% of his centuries were in totally drawn matches and 20 % were in 2 innings drawn Test matches where no competitive interests was left and the lethal EFFECT AND PRESSURE OF BOWLING IS NOT THERE. Now we have a new baby tendulkar who has played as a normal batsman and not able to Captain the side like Ponting,Bradman,Sobers,Waugh, etc etc.Player doing useless records .

Your statement itself says why players worry about statistics because u too talked numbers.
If India win a match we are all proud. We are equally proud when an Indian is on the top of records because once again he or she made the country on top. Gavaskar and Sachin made India proud by creating records that many dream to brake.
While I tried to convince you and many, I know it is not easy because you actually suffer from jealosy and cant appreciate the performances. You are bringing many other names to compare with Sachin. But all of them also wanted records. Why Ponting is still playing after several failures? Why is he continuing shamelessly after losing many matches recently?
Why Sobers made 300 ? Why Waugh didnt resign when he lost two uncommon matches against India (India defeated after Follow on) and WI (WI Chased 400 in 4th innings).
Did Bradman play when all others used to fail like 9 pins? Did he play anywhere other than Australia and England.
Do you remember the kind of innings Gavaskar played? In Oval he made 221 in 4th innings when all other impotent players could not make even same amount of runs to wina match. He made wonderful 96 on a pitch of Bangalore when there was only one 50 in all innnings and India lost the match.
Winning a match depends on the entire team.
Gibbs made 175 out of 440 in a ODI but his colleagues made sure SA won.
Sanchin made 175 out 350 target, and all others could not make the rest of runs.

A few sportspersons like Federer, Johnson, Pele etc. are included in the list. I am not sure whether it is going to the world audience or confined only to India. Cricket is not known to 95% of the countries in the world. It is an 8-nation game. India is cricket crazy and we are obsessed with the game and Tendulkar's achievements. Naturally, all Indians will vote for him and he will win hands down. But is it a true reflection of real greatness? After all, most of the others in the list of TOI ( I do not remember the complete list) have played or are playing global games unlike cricket which is confined to just 8 countries. So, how far it is correct to even conduct such a poll? In our own country, even the achievements of the likes of Bindra (Olympic gold), Vishwanathan Anand (multiple world championship played by many more countries than cricket) will definitely rank higher. However, as everything is media driven and popularity driven, you have to perhaps bow to that and say, `Tendulkar is the greatest ever sportsman', even if you are not convinced of the same!

Hi mr Hero Bango Tango, Indian websites are 99% visited by Indians only and whom do you think they will vote. In fact majority of visitors to English websites are Indians and this are young immature students or neo people just started working of so called shinning India trying to be like westerners. India cannot be beaten due to its population so all results on English web are india centric. Never ever beleive in these internet polls. Visitors are majority Indians below 25 ,immature and fanatically brainwashed Indians with false pride thinking everything of India is good.

Who deserves Bharat Ratna Vishy Anand vs Sachin

Anand is real great as he has won world champion title
by India (View MyPage) on Dec 24, 2010 12:29 PM

Anand is real great as he has won world

champion title several times in world sports of

chess and deserves Bharat ratna.

Sachin has failed to make India win a single

world cup even though he played 5/6 world cup....

Sachin failed in all crunch games...

between 2000 and 2008 India

reached almost 10 triseries

finals and could win only 2

Sachin failed in most of the

finals i.e crunch games Sachin fails

In hockey or football match if some great

player makes record goals but the team looses

or does not win important tournament...how can

that player be judged as great player????????

hello !!
Chess is an individual game

Cricket is 11 men game
No single man can lead the team to World cup victory on his own

it is not the same equation here !!

On his own... he is the best batsman of this era.. and raised the nation's fame by contributed to the sports at a world class level with legendary performances

Read above Hockey and football is also played by 11 players.....

Record goals by a player in hockey do not mean anything unless it leads to teams victory

Sachin has regularly failed in important crunch games, specially finals

contrary to that Dhyanchand has 3 Gold Medals representing for the country in 1928, 1932 & 1936 Olympics...
Abhinav Bindra has 1 Gold to his name representing India in 2008 Bejing Olympics....

If u discard the Olympics n then say abt Indivisual Records, then Ranjan Sodhi is the World record holder in Double Trap shooting event .....
Marry Kom has won the World Amateur boxing gold in 2008 ...
Pankaj Advani has won the World Professional Billiards Championship apart from numerous championships...
Vishy Anand , dont remember how many championships he has won !!!! just go n check in wiki ....

Sachin is a GREAT player n has done proud to India...but so do other sports persons mentioned above ....

great mistake....forgot 2 add....Kasava Yadav...i ve heard somewr that his son used to sell peanuts even after he won the first invidual medal 4 India !!!! (not so sure)..
still we Indian people expect India to win many Golds @ the Olympics...

SACHIN IS A GREAT BATSMAN THERE IS NO DOUBT AT
ALL,BUT IT CANT HELP THE COUNTRY TO WIN ANY BIG TOURNAMENT WHAT WE R DOING WE R GIVING PREF TO INDIV RATHER THAN COUNTRY PRIDE THAT
MEANS INDIV IS ABOVE COUNTRY AND GAME. FROM 1983 TO 1987 THAT WAS GOLDEN ERA OF INDIAN CRICKET WHEN WE HAVE WON MANY BIG TOURNAMENTS BUT AT THAT TIME THERE IS NO MEDIA ONLY ONE DOORDASHAN CHANNEL.WE HAVE WON ONLY 20-20 WORLD CUP IN RECENT YEARS

Okay I am fan of Tendulkar.
The way Tendly and Dravid played i felt it the last game was pathetic some might call selfish. Tendly should have protected the tailenders and should have taken most of the stricke in the last day. In the same fashion Dravid too could have taken most of the strike instead of letting the tailenders face the fast bowlers. I have seen many instances such as these.
But still i am a big fan of Tendly, not so much of Dravid though.

No one talked when sachin crossed 9k,10k and 11k runs as well.

Talk started when sachin crossed 12k runs.

Wanna guess why ?

It was overshadowed by Sachin's 50th Century. It happens.
When Laxman saved the match against NZ recently, We talked more about Harbhajan's century as that was more overwhelming even though Laxman's effort was not that bad.
These things happen but dont think it happened on own.
Dravid was the victim when Laxman made 281 while Dravid also made 180 .
