What is so outstanding?
by A Singh on Dec 20, 2010 10:12 AM  | Hide replies

He has been scoring a hundred every 3.5 Test Matches. There is nothing outstanding about this strike rate. There are half a dozen Test players who have been scoring hundreds at this very rate. The only achievement is Sachin's longevity.
Not just in Cricket, all our World Records are in quantity rather than quality. Instead of swimming just 50 metres in an international event just once in a record time, we swim across English Channel. Instead of winning Tour de France just once, we cycle for weeks together. Sachin's record falls in that domain only.
Anybody playing 175 Test Matches is bound to get close to 50 Test Match Hundreds.

so how many batsmen u know who scored 50 centuries..
atleast who can lost long for this duration with performance.

Seems in ur view a batsman who scored a century and retired due to injury or someother reason is better than Sachin...

Correct urself, u should also know the quality of the bowling he faced, and the quality of our bowling attack when he is playing... as the same is complimentary for any batsman with added confidence.

Dear A SINGH,
anybody who talks like you can only talk & do nothing. try to appreciate others deeds. it is not an easy thing to play 175 tests & score 50 hundreds. the most important factor is the longevity & u r brushing it aside as if it is no mean an achievement. when it comes to quality, can ponting who is the nearest to sachin now score 50 hundreds if he plays 175 matches. the answer is he cannot which means sachin has done something more than what others are able to do in same no of matches which is a sign of better quality. so do not paint everybody with the same brush.

Not quite agree to that.
Bradman is in a league of his own at 1.79 matches. Of Sachin's contemporaries, only Mathew Hayden's strike rate is better at 3.43. None of the rest come close. Among all time greats, Sobers at 3.58, Greg Chappell at 3.62 & Sunny at 3.67 come closest.

There are few things to cheer about in the nation. When country is in the grip of corruptions like 2g, 3G spectrum it is a nice change for the youth of tomorrows India. We all join to salute the pride of nation. We see lot of role of our beloved Sachin in motivating the youth of India and make India the one of the best countries in the Democratic world.

So, that proves the point that he is great because in the condition where no inidan batsman able to bat even to save the match, he can do that. But if other 10 can't rise to the occassion it's not his fault.

unfortunately Sachin didn't have patner who can bat longer...
even when India won against Australia When VVS & Ishanth's partnership was key for victory, Ishanth faced 71% of the balls// we should have had some committed efforts equal to the task from other batsmen.

Sachinb's 5oth Century
by Dharmesh Natesan on Dec 20, 2010 09:52 AM

The crucial un-asked question is in these 50 centuries, how many runs were scored(4\'s 6\'s)
and how many were run?
How he compares in this with earlier \"centurions\"
