Yes. It is not great. But, he was only required to play 25 innings out of total 275 innings. BTW his most runs have come against England, WI and Aus. But you have to also consider the fact that he was unlucky to be given out on many crucial moments only due to umpire's poor judgement. If you consider 3rd and 4th innings (2nd inning for team) the average is fairly good 36.28.. Ponting has 41.38 and Lara has 32.72 ... Dravid has certainly very good average 46... But then Afridi has average of 55.. Do you think he is better than Dravid in Test matches? Gavaskar tops the list who have at least played 40 innnings with average of 61.
What all this proves? Not much! To some extent most of these innings are either match savings or formality for a draw. And yes Gavaskar and Dravid are best bets for saving the match. But in most cases, the position of the team is decided by 1st or the 2nd inning. This is because that is where the actual pressure builds up. Also, the pressure is directly related to the overall team performance (including with the ball). Ponting has usually walked out with virtually no pressure because others in the team already take large share. India too won most matches when Sehwag, Dravid, Sachin, Lax, Bhajji/Kumble played their roles very well. Remember when a team makes 600 score... a single player hardly makes 200 runs... Rest 400 come from other players. So, there is no point in talking abt 3rd or 4th inning ...

On this, I remember Ganguly's quote "Building partnerships are important...". Earlie, Sachin used to make several big scores without good partners and India lost those matches...BTW, he won one of the highest chasing match by scoring a hundred.

you have been beat at your own game.Dont rate a player by stats. Look at his abilities. You cant compare grandpa who is going to retire to someone who is peaking. Wait till his career is over.

lol. i added all away series in second stats. dont you know to read ? First one was for australia alone.
Rahul dravid is the only indian batsman who has better avg and strike rate on fast bouncy pitches outside subcontinent than he has on flat subcontinetal pitches.
Maybe he can only play on tracks on which others cant play :-)

absolutely. I would bet my money on dravid not sachin in an away test series, esp conditions like australia. That does not mean sachin is worthless.
Tests Sachins average in australia overall - 56.08 average in 4th innings of match - 19.71
Does that mean he cant deal with pressure against quality pace attack under the toughest of conditions ?. Wisen up and learn something LG before you write nonsense.

If logical thinking comes naturally to every grown men, then you might also be having it, but it does not come naturally.
Do not try to use your empty brain and come up with myopic views.
All inning are important, that is why average of all innings are projected against every players.
Selected stats are meaningless for most except for morons like you.
If India is dreaming about winning this test match, Sehwag should fire 200-300. Only chance of winning this test is to score runs at fast pace which only Sehwag & Sachin can do. I'm glad that Dravid got out early today. India should score 700 again to beat Srilankans by an innings. But I'm skeptical about toothless Indian bowling attack which struggle to wrap 10 wickets.

He is an amateur. Probably started to watch only on flat tracks. Little do these boys know the value of dravid. I hope he ends his career on a high whenever that is.

Abhi, If you have time, pl read an article on criinfo--batting giants in Asia, which gives an idea about who is flat track bully who is not.
Also have a look at this article--Master of the Game. You can find it in Sachin Profile at cricinfo.
