Don't compare sachin and sehwag
by Sports Lover on Aug 04, 2010 08:59 PM  | Hide replies

Sachin when young was as destrcutive as sehawag if not more. I have seen him hitting Abdul Qadir for 4 sixes in an over at that young of 17-18 in an exhibition match. Don't remember why that match was an exhibition match for rain or something else.
And Abdul Qadir was best spinner at that time.
And I still cannot forget sharjah 1998 where sachin single handedly won that cup for Inida. My only regret is that Chennai test match against pakistan which he almost won for india but last 4 batsman couldn't score 17 odd runs.

part of what you said is right. Of course, Sachin is not best just because I or some people here say so.

Sachin is best because all contemporary and past great players of different countries say so.

Now do not ask me who. Find it yourself.

Best Test batsmen between Jan 1997 and Dec 2002--This was the period when pitches were still very sportive and there were many good bowlers around:

Batsman Tests Runs Average 100s/ 50s

1 Sachin Tendulkar 59 5705 63.38 21/ 20

2 Andy Flower 41 3464 56.78 9/ 18

3 Matthew Hayden 35 3054 56.55 12/ 10

4 Rahul Dravid 62 5178 55.08 14/ 25

5 Aravinda de Silva 38 3134 54.98 12/ 9

6 Inzamam-ul-Haq 49 3740 51.94 12/ 15

7 Jacques Kallis 63 4447 51.70 11/ 25

8 Ricky Ponting 57 3916 50.85 14/ 14

Look at these stats and make up your mind.

Of course, even then you deny, have no problem. Be happy in believing what you want to believe.

Don;t know why Vijay Murali is keep on getting the opportunities
by sreenivasulu reddy on Aug 04, 2010 08:35 PM  | Hide replies

Don;t know why Vijay Murali is keep on getting the opportunities. He failed miserably even on a flat pitch. He is so scared of Malinga and always want to be on Non Strikers end when Malinga bowls. It is unfortunate that Srikanth is showing too much bias and showing lot of regional feelings by selecting Murali Vijay. There are lot of players who are far better than Vijay and they can be given the opportunity. There are players like Rahane, Rayudu, Uthappa, Pujara, Manish Pandey etc who can play far better than Vijay.
Unfortunate that Srikanth is selecting Viajy for tests and keep on selecting Dinesh Karthik for ODIS

What a bat VIRU is....
by Kaka on Aug 04, 2010 08:11 PM  | Hide replies

I never tire of seeing this magnificent batsman Virender Sehwag in action. When in full cry, there is no better sight in the game, he can slaughter any bowling on any pitch anywhere in the world. He reminds me so much of the incomparable legend Sir Vivian Richards. King Viv in his prime was the same, he dictated bowling attacks and dominated them, he was the monarch who destroyed bowling attacks to shreds. Without helmet in what can be the 'era of the most fastest bowlers in history', he used to show who was the boss and dominated them. Like a king he used to come, his very presence was electrifying and crowds used to swell when he was there in the middle. Charismatic and colorful personality, he was one of a kind.

Viru is the same, when he bats, all watch spell bound and pray that he never becomes out. Hope Viru gets a hundred tomorrow and races to another one.

I am talking abt both. Viru and Sir Viv are both similar kind of players who love to dictate terms to bowling attacks and slaughter them.

Many compare them with one another, and Viru himself when asked on the same, admitted that Sir Viv was one of a kind, who was a class apart in a league of his own. He also said, no comparisons, the kind of bowlers Sir Viv faced in his time, 4 quicks at a time without helmet was something else. He played in Packers rebel series in late 1970s and faced some frightening fast bowlers at a single time on the fastest pitches in Aus, without helmet and destroyed them. So Sir (KING) Viv is slightly better. U yourself can see his videos on YOU TUBE, like his 189 NO ag Eng in 1984 and so on.

You are mistaken. He played them in local matches like our Ranji and county cricket in England. He took them head on and dominated them. His own compatriots from Roberts to Holding, Marshall, Garner, Croft and co, hailed them as the best they bowled to. And all were great fast bowlers.

Agreed Gavaskar also played without helmet, but he was not a entertainer, more of a technical player who did not dominate attacks. He grinded them slowly and steadily. On other hand, Sir Viv took them on and slaughtered them, Lillee, Thomson, Pascoe, Hogg, Imran, Wasim Akram, Snow, Willis, Hadlee, Sarfraz, Kapil, Botham, etc, all rated him as the best they had bowled to. Now u can make your comparisons from this as well as from Viru's comments. Sachin and Viru with modern greats like Lara, Warne, Inzy, Rahul, Laxman, Jayasuriya, Ponting, Waugh bros, etc all hail as their idol.

Sachin survived a LBW decision today. So all the runs he will make tomorrow will be bonus for him, like he was dropped on 0 and 29 and survived a clear LBW at 147 in last test match:

34.5 Randiv to Tendulkar, no run, Loud shout for lbw Again, from round the stumps, it lands on middle and leg and turned to hit the pad in front of leg. Probably turning down leg or would it have hit the leg? Let's wait for the replays..Hawk eye says it would have hit the top of the leg stump

roflmao. So now that is the new approach. Lg with all due respect. Pl stop making a fool of yourself. You really need to learn. You need to first figure out what is this so called logic. You throw an argument. People show you are fallacy of that. Then you change track. Atleast have the guts to say you got it wrong. For some reason you think nobody can do better than sachin. That is where you lose it kid.

"All inning are important, that is why average of all innings are projected against every players."

But some are more important than others. Is that a difficult concept to get ?. You will learn this once you get over your blind love for sachin. Good 4th innings average is far better than a good 1st innings average because of the pressure and detiorating conditons that come under. But i dont expect you to understand all this. You are an amateur. But to show you the fallacy of stats, i dont rate sachin as a flat track bully because of that pathetic 4th innings average. He has his weaknesses like everyone else. I will leave it at that.

So basically you need to go back and learn basics first before you put on your pretensions of being logical. you are just funny.

Hey varun...so you say a player having good avg in 4th innings is much better than a player having good avg in 1st inngs?
Ok let's think it this way that team A batted first and made 600 runs. Team B needs 400 to avoide foloow on and you have the players who have good avg in 4th (or 3rd) inngs don't do good in 1st and they play a follow on. What are the chances of Team B saving the match? And what are the chances if players having good avg in 1ft innings scores well in first inngs and avoide the follow on? Runs are runs irespective of scored in any of the inngs in a test match buddy! If you don't do good in 1st innings it puts extra pressure on the team! More pricisely it's the 1st inning os the match that put the foundation of a win or loss. If it's not the why would the toss be so important in matches and specially in Srilanka where Srilanka haven't lost a match in which they won the toss except one against England!

hehe. The usual LG kind of stuff. I did not say that. Read it again. I dont rate a player by stats as stats is deceptive. I was teaching LG a lesson the kid forgot or rather never learnt.

Buddy. I did not say first innings score or average is worthless. But to score well in the 4th innings one needs more than just technique. Get it ?. That is sometimes the stuff that separates a talented player from a champion. But that does not mean the other one is worthless or their first innings scores are. But it is a fact in test cricket that wicket detiorates as the match progresses. Will leave the rest of figuring out to you. The bottom line is that stats are not of much use unless all factors are taken into consideration. Something Lg forgot when he used it to call viru a flat track bully. And that too when the guy has an away average of 41. Anybody who knows the game can tell that 41 is a good average. But hey it is LG.

Lets see what he does in South Africa tour. I am dead sure he'll be better than the rest, if not he'll retire.

look he is like this in subcontinent conditions. Secondly his kind of batting needs lots of energy and concentration. Not sure if he has it anymore. I hope he proves me wrong. Would love to see the old dravid back.

Did you see that in two of the tests he got out for no-fault of his? He is such a class batsman. You must be out of your mind to kick out such a great batsmen.
