With or without Tendulkar, India can't move beyond semi final (best case). So now worries.

No body is indispensable....
by Globalcrusador on Apr 18, 2010 11:33 AM  | Hide replies

However, one might wish Tendulkar would play T20, if he does not, it is a golden opportuni- ty for India to unearth equivalent talent. Quite honestly there is no dearth of batting & bowling talent. Amongst the batsmen are Suresh Raina, Virat Kholi, Uthappa and several others. Likewise amongst bowlers we have Mishra, Ojha, Praveen Kumar, Nehra and the new find Ravi from Bangalore. We should have an open mind to give them generous chances to prove themselves, without expecting wonders in their very first appearance. The recent IPL matches have unearthed enough new potential for us. It is high time we looked ahead with confidence.

I bet you meant it to be this way first, and then forgot about it!

Thank you for second guessing my intentions. I meant exactly as I write with the correction. The point is no body is irreplaceable. Long term greats like Subash Gupte, Kapil Dev, Gavaskar when they retired, it was felt there would be a huge vacuum. On the oter hand reality says, there is more than one replacement available.
We should never be carried away by one person's greatness. Sachin's replacement may be waiting in the wings somewhere- we just need to spot that person. We have to remain optimistic.

You give money the IPL is paying Sachin, he will be in a good form and play for India. Take statistics, when has sachin played consistently good cricket for India in consecutive 13 matches?? He's playing only for MONEY & ONLY MONEY

Tendulkar announced retirement from T20 much before the first edition of IPL was announced. If Tendulkar played in T20, you would have said, he is not allowing the youngsters to come up. Always he will be in the wrongside for you guys.

Not only Uthappa . I think Prahjan Ohja and Murali Vijay also doing well and should have been in the team in place of Chwla and Gambir.Uthappa ha sto be in the team in place of either Yusuf pathan or Rohit. But rohit is doing well in this IPL so Pathan eventhough is a big hitter but inconsistent has to make way for Utappa. But I don't think Krish Srikkanth and go will make any changes in the team

Re: Re: india will not miss

Yusuf Pathan should be dropped out.
Reason:The whole world knows that he cant play short of length ball.
Pathan only blindly swings his bat and if the ball is of full length/good length,he can get it out of ground for a six or boundary
Whereas if the ball is short pitched/short of good length,he cant play comfortably.
In the recent matches ,this weakness of Yusuf Pathan has been exposed. The reason why Rajasthan royals lost recently was because all the other teams planned to bowl short of length to Yusuf Pathan and he failed to score.
I think that Robin Utthapa is very very better than Yusuf Pathan
Also Rahul Sharma of Deccan Chargers is a good leg spinner than Piyush chawla, but ofcourse,it is risky to try him for a big game like T20 World cup, hence he should be considered later.
Pragyan Ojha is a better spinner than Chawla but why he was not considered?

My 5 fav. teams for up coming World T20
by surya das on Apr 18, 2010 08:45 AM  | Hide replies

I ve 5 fav Teams for up coming T20.

1. Aus ( with great bowling attacks, and hard hitting batsmen and all rounder could damage the most.)
2. Pakistan ( They are the most unpredictable, with very good bowling attack, they can upset any team on their way.)
3. India ( with great explosive batsmen but weak bowling attack can damage any opposition).
4. South Africa ( With many explosive batsmen and allrounders, they are certainly 4th best team.)
5. WI ( with home advantages, great explosive batsmen, and healthy bowling attacks can change the points table).

And, 6 & 7 will be NZ and SL though it's T20 game, and any day these 2 teams can upset any team, so for me NZ and SL are the dark horses for the coming World T20. Good luck to India.

Don't underestimate SL. They have matchwinner like Sangakara, Murali and Jayawardene.Dilson and Mathew shined well in the last T 20 world cup and there is no reasons to beleive that they won't repeat in this edition. apart from that they are the best fielding team among the teams participiating in this WC

ALSO HE HAS INCREASED HIS RATE IN THE IPL AND IF HE DOESNT DO WELL IN THE T20 CUP HIS RATE WILL GO DOWN....

SO WHY TAKE THE RISK

Both of them got enough media coverage. Please see Tendulkar's records.he is the 1st boy of Indian Cricket and he desreves the attention. But the marathi media does not chase sachin for failures & controversy which bengali media does for ganguly.

Also Ganguly seeks media attention by controversial comments while Sachin doesnt.
Ganguly shines only when the ask-rate is cool & he can play at less than run a ball.
Look at his scoring rate in his first 40 runs.
Always wastes the first 6 overs

Uhm, because tendulkar has more ability than Ganguly? Have you noticed how Ganguly plays short bowling? Or how he plays off his pads? He was good in ODIs until they introduced the one bouncer per over rule in 2003 or so.

Dravid never got the same adulation from the media as SRT either. Most of India's test wins since ganguly became captain (esp betweeen 2001-2007) were thanks to Dravid, Kumble, Laxman and Sehwag (in that order). It's just the nature of the thing... SRT is more talented than any of the names mentioned above, and therefore gets more attention. I am a Dravid fan, and would love to see Dravid get his due for his contributions to Indian test wins, but I know it's not going to happen. Dravid is too boring for the people who think Yusuf Pathan is a good batsman.

Playing short bowling is not only about hooking and pulling (both Dravid and SRT do it when set). It's about not getting in a tangle when the ball is short, and coming forward to a pitched up ball after a few bouncers. (You seem to be the sort of person who is suited for T20, looks like) This is the "how to get ganguly" algorithm, perfected by McGrath, Flintoff and others: Bowl a few bouncers into his ribs, and then pitch one up to the bad, a outside off stump. He doesn't move his feet, throws the bat at the ball, and nicks it to second slip (Yuvraj Singh, his protege has taken after his patron-in-chief). It is rare to see SRT or Dravid fend to a fast bowler (I mean fast, not fast medium). It is rare to see them get out nicking the sucker ball following a bouncer to slip. Ganguly does all of that.

FYI, Ponting doesn't hook either. He only pulls, but he is a good player of short-pitched stuff. Hayden hardly ever hooks or pulls, but he plays short stuff quite well. Very few batsmen will risk a hook with fine leg and deep backward square leg in attendance.

I'd recommend watching some test cricket, to learn the nuances. It's very educational.

correction: hayden occasionally pulls when set, but never seen him hook in tests. Very few batsmen actually hook... Gilchrist is one who comes immediately to mind, but he's that sort of player.
